6. Exposed
Legolas hung his head low as he ran to his room. Tears streamed down his cheeks, but he tried not to sob. He did not want to draw anymore attention to himself then he already is.
He was about to open his door when he heard a voice, and froze in the action.
"Legolas?"
He took a deep breath and turned around to face the Queen, a fake smile on his face.
"Arwén."
"Are you alright?" She asked concerned as she noticed his tears.
"Yes." He said and sniffed.
She sighed sadly and walked closer to her elven friend.
"I know you're not."
"I'm sorry Arwén. ..Me and my father ... argued before I left to visit." He lied. He couldn't tell her that he just killed one of his best friends. How would that sound?
"Oh." She said sadly, and smiled.
"I'm sure he is thinking about you at this moment Legolas."
He nodded and turned to leave when Arwén's voice once more stopped him. He grew irritated. When was she gonna stop?
"Will you be alright Legolas? I care about you, I hope you know that."
He growled. A sound he never make.
Arwén frowned.
"Legolas what's wrong?"
Legolas laughed and turned around. She almost backed away at the mad look in his eyes.
"'What's wrong?' I'm hungry!"
Her eyes widen as she fought with something to say. Something told her he wasn't hungry for food.
"Legolas..."
She gaped as his eyes grew red and the veins grew visible. He looked terrifying. She screamed when he opened his mouth to reveal his fangs, but couldn't run before he attacked her.
Legolas felt the blood pass his lips, and smirked against Arwén's neck. He held her tighter as she struggled, and he fed, feeling himself growing stronger by the second.
Suddenly he heard someone calling his name, and he felt someone trying to desperately push him away.
"Legolas stop!"
He recognised the voice, but didn't made a move to back off. He was too hungry to. He growled as he was being roughly pushed away. Arwén cried as she cradled her still bleeding neck gently, Aragorn looking directly at him.
"Legolas! Snap out of it!" He looked terrified at his friend, but all he saw was red eyes, fangs and blood dripping down his chin. He didn't see those kind blue eyes that he loved so much.
Legolas gritted his teeth and growled, before trying to reach the Queen again. Aragorn walked in between them and pushed against Legolas chest desperately.
"Please Legolas I..I love her." Aragorn felt a weird taste as he said it, but he couldn't take it back now.
Legolas directly stopped, and his eyes slowly grew blue once more. His mouth was still open, but the fangs were gone. He looked at Aragorn, looking like a scared little child.
"Legolas?" Aragorn asked softly, not wanting to scare him away.
Legolas breathing began to shudder as he looked between the love of his life and his wife. He felt his heart shatter at those words.
"I love her."
Legolas closed his mouth and swallowed hard, feeling the taste of the blood on his lips. The loss of Eowyn still hunted him, and now this? This had to stop.
"I..I'm sorry." He choked out and turned to run, wiping his mouth in the process. Aragorn reached out to grab his wrist, but he was already gone.
He turned to Arwén, who still looked terrified. He rose a hand to run her arm soothingly, and she signed.
"Arwén ..I know this is a lot to ask but you need to tell the healers it was a animal attack."
She frowned at him and cradled her neck tighter.
"Really? Should I? Legolas is a vampire and almost killed me! Vampires haven't existed in centuries and you want me to to lie? He could easily hurt someone else!"
"He won't. Please Arwén..he is my oldest friend...I want to fix him."
"There is no fixing him! Legolas is gone! You have to admit it to yourself Aragorn! He is not coming back!"
Aragorn couldn't believe how empty he felt at those words. He couldn't lose Legolas.
She turned around and ran towards the healing wing. Aragorn, too scared not to, sneaked after and listed through the door.
"Help me, I was attacked by a vampire!"
Aragorn gasped and took a few steps away from the door. She told them.
He immediately turned away and began to run. He needed to find Legolas before the whole city knows.
There hasn't been a vampire in this town for a century, but he knew people remembered. There was a time when vampires was everywhere, and people remember that time. Before they all died. Maybe not all...
When he was past the hallway he saw a few guard carrying someone, and he gaped. They carried a lifeless Eowyn.
"Help! She was attacked!"
He hated to do it, but he cared about Legolas more. He closed his eyes and sighed heavily, before he ran. He already heard how the guards ran toward him, and sped up.
"Legolas!" He screamed and ran directly into his room, slamming the door open. Legolas sat up in bed, alarmed. Aragorn knew he wasn't sleeping, he saw the tear stains on his cheeks.
"Eowyn..."
"I know." Legolas cancelled him.
"I killed her." He said if like it was the most natural thing in the world, and it scared the King.
Aragorn felt a chill go down his spine, and stared at his friend.
Legolas looked back at him with a gaze filled with lost hope and terror. It was a dark and lifeless look.
Aragorn fought to find words, until he finally said;
"Arwén told them."
Legolas gaze didn't change.
"Good." He said calmly like it didn't matter, and lay down again.
Aragorn couldn't believe his ears. He heard footsteps and closed the door and locked it, before approaching the bed.
"What do you mean? They'll kill you."
"This for the best Aragorn. I only harm people."
Aragorn felt tears prick his eyes.
"No you're not. I'll help you, just don't give up." He sounded so desperate, he even scared himself.
Legolas once more sat up and looked at Aragorn who now kneeled down beside the bed.
His eyes were still blue, but darker. There was no life in them.
The man took the elf's hand in his, cradling it gently. He was crying, and Legolas knew it was entirely his fault.
"Aragorn..I'm sorry...I never meant to go this far...but you need to leave me. I'll hurt you too."
Aragorn looked up, eyes red from crying. He gasped in a breath before he shook his head harshly.
"No I'll not leave."
"Leave me Aragorn. Or better, drive a stake through my heart." Legolas said, looking almost desperate.
"Stake?" Aragorn asked, eyes wide in fear.
Both of them looked towards the door as someone tries to open it.
Aragorn grew panicked. What should he do?
He looked at Legolas, who met his gaze calmly.
"I love you." Legolas said and squeezed Aragorn's hand tightly. He knew this was the last thing he'll ever tell Aragorn.
Aragorn didn't have time to answer before at least ten guard broke down the door. They grabbed Aragorn's arm and dragged him away, easily even though he fought like a wild animal.
Aragorn watched in slow motion as a sword was trusted through Legolas heart.
He didn't fought back. Legolas went limp on the bed, a sword through his chest.
Aragorn's heart shattered to pieces, and he fell to his knees as the guards released him.
One guard kneeled next to him, trying to add some words off comfort before he was roughly pushed away.
Aragorn still had tears in his eyes, but he looked dangerous. He was so mad.
He rose from the floor, and stared at the guards.
"I am your King. You need permission from me before you take someone's life! A precious life! Haven't you seen enough death?"
"I apologise King Aragorn. He was a vampire."
"How could you know?"
"Arwén informed us."
Aragorn shook his head slowly, tears still spilling over.
"I can't believe this."
"Aragorn...they are monsters..didn't your father tell you what your grandfather was doing a century ago?"
Aragorn, too upset to even listen, fell to his knees beside the bed. Legolas blood soaked the sheets, and he grasped the limp hand in a hard grip.
The guards soundlessly left the room, not wanting to disturb their King even more.
Aragorn sat beside the bed until late after midnight, until he finally closed Legolas eyes.
