Chapter 6 - The Challenge
We went to a class at the east wing of the castle, and Luna opened the door, which was pretty noisy, as many students were either gossiping, joking loudly, or some silent ones, reading. I noticed that the two boys who had made fun of Luna, were sitting at the back. Right behind us, a teacher walked in. "Good afternoon students! Welcome back! I'm Madeline Marley. This year, we have a new student. Rosemary?" she said, and i stood up from my seat and walked to the front of the class. Putting her hand on my shoulder, she said, "Class, this is Rosemary Kingsway. She has just moved here. Since we aren't going to do anything today, why don't you tell us about yourself before you all go out for recreation?" I was going to say something again when the boy who had apologized to me knocked at the door. "Late again Cooper!" said Miss Marley. "Sorry Ma'am, i had to drop few books at the library."
She sent him to his seat, which i noticed was one that was right next to me. Some girls around him giggled, put their head on their palms and stared at him. I shook my head and composed myself. "Hey. My name is Rosemary. But people usually call me Rose, and I appreciate if you guys would call me that too." some people laughed and I smiled. "I moved here around a week back, and i find this place amazing. I-" but then the bell rang and a voice spread throughout the corridor. "Students, you may all head out for the entire day, before dinner in the hall, for your other random activities. Today night, you'll be moving into your dorms. You may leave your suitcases in your classes for now. Go on, enjoy today before your classes start tomorrow!" we heard the Principal saying through the speakers. "Well, what are you waiting for? Go. Dismissed!" Miss Marley said and all the students went out. Thank Vlad that the bell rang! I heard Ro say, as she floated back next to me again. "I know! I thought that they would've asked me where i was from n all"
"Heyy girl!" i heard Luna say from the front door as i was walking out. "Hey! Any idea what activities are here?" I asked as she waved Oscar over. "Well, there are many! There is football, basketball, hockey, archery, paintball, boxin-"
"Did you say archery and paintball? I wanna go!" she looked at me in surprise. "You're joking?" Oscar asked me in surprise. "Yeah, I love sports where you have to aim and shoot. My best talents" i told them. "If you say so!" said Luna, and she took us to a large lawn which, instead of being filled with armors, knives and swords, now had archery stands. Honestly, we had to come to a place which reminds us A LOT about the Academy! said Ro, pouting. "Well, at least we're safe from the Strikers!" i said by mistake, louder than i thought i would. "What?" Luna asked me. "What what?" i asked her back and shrugged. She and Oscar went to the far side of the archery and sat there. I followed. "You guys are acting as if you've never seen a girl shooting arrows before."
"We actually haven't. No one dares to challenge the Lord of archery, Jeremy. The guy standing over there. He's in Cymophane." said Oscar, and pointed behind me. Before i could speak, a high pitched voice spread out over the lawn. "Hey everyone! Newbie just challenged Jeremy to an archery competition!" I looked to the commentary box. My eyes zoomed automatically to get a better look at who spoke. It was one of the girls at the bus stop. A tall, muscular guy came over to us, carrying a bow and few arrows. "How dare you challenge me? A girl! Now you'll have to pay for what you did! Beat me in this competition, and I'll let you go!"
I faced him. Luna was shaking her head to tell me not to accept it. But I got up anyway. I heard the vampire inside me growing a little. "You're on."
