Chapter Twenty-Six

You opened your eyes slowly, you were on a  sofa laying down. You heard movement as you turned your head and looked around. Kaname was at your side in no time. His hand went up to the top of your head, stroking your hair on the top of your head of your face.

You stared at Kaname as he looked down with watery saddened eyes, "Elissa, I am so sorry. I should have given your memories back the moment you turned back into a Vampire. I shouldn't have kept them from you." His voice was hoarse as if he'd been crying for a good few hours.

"They're back now.. that's the main thing. Where are we?" You questioned as you sat up with his help. You could see his worried about you.

"We're in Yagari's office. He told me to bring you up here to rest. I've been worried about the bracelet on you." He stated as your eyes trailed to it, it was glowing. It was a soft glow but it was glowing which meant something was coming. "It's not stopped glowing since you fainted."

"It hasn't?"

"No, I fear it's getting ready to do it's final task on you.." Kaname explained as his voice broke. You could tell he was really worried.

"I need to talk to him."

"You're not going near him with that thing glowing." Kaname stated, his voice was coated with worry.

"Kaname, I need to talk to him. The Quentin I knew as a child is nothing like the Quentin he is now. He once promised to not hurt me, I'm going to make him remember his promise." You stated and stood up walking to the door. Kaname knew he couldn't do anything to stop you, so he walked out with you and escorted you down to where Yagari was keeping Quentin.

You saw Yagari talking with your father as you approached the gate with stopped Vampires crossing. You decided to call out to them and stopped them talking, they walked up to the gate and it deactivated quickly allowing you both to walk in.

"Why is she back down here Kaname? I told you to take her upstairs and lock the door." Kaien explained and you raised your eyebrow at him.

"Lock the door? What would you expect me to do? Father you know me better than anyone, I won't sit idly by when I can do something to help." You told him and he sighed.

"You're not in the condition to help." He stated as he lifted your bracelet.

"All the more reason for me to talk to him."

"Wait- you're here to just talk to him?" Yagari questioned as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"I need to talk to him. Please. Let me do this. I'll take responsibility for whatever happens." You told them and they both sighed.

"No." Kaien told you instantly, "It's too risky. I'm not letting you take that risk and for you to bring her down here to do exactly that, what are you trying to do Kaname?! Hand her over to the beast?!" Kaien yelled about to draw his sword on Kaname.

"You know how she can be, just as much as I do Kaien. She's not backing down from this easily. This is something she needs to do." Kaname stated and placed his hand on your shoulder, causing you to look up at him as he looked down at you with a soft smile. "It doesn't mean that I'm not concerned or worried because I am. But you have to trust her. At this point, she's the only one who can save herself. We've all tried everything and failed. It's up to her now."

"Fine... but if he tries anything scream and I'll come running to get you." Kaien told you and pulled you in for a hug which you gladly accepted.

You walked up to the cell where they kept him and waited as they let you inside. He was chained up again, sitting against the wall. He looked up to you as you gave him a small smile. It threw him off again as it caused his eyes to widen slightly and he looked away from you.

You decided to trust the Quentin you once knew, so you made the bold move to sit next to him against the wall. In which made him turn his head back to you in surprise.

"Your father attacked my house when Yuuki and I was young. We were probably five years old when it happened. Our parents has us hidden from the world our whole life. Mostly to do with the Senate and your father... my Uncle.. Our mother sacrificed herself with a spell to turn us human and forget our vampire selves. We knew nothing of the life we had lived after we walked out of the building. Kaname was fighting Rido with our father. Our father died by Rido's hands, his own brother had killed him. Kaname managed to get rid of Rido but he couldn't deal the last blow on Rido. I don't think he wanted to kill his uncle. Even if he'd witnessed our father dying in front of him. Your father wasn't completely dead when you came to me that night." You explained and you heard him scoff from time to time as you told him what happened that night.

"How do you know what happened with your father, Kaname and my father? I don't trust Kaname's word." Quentin asked and you nodded slightly.

"I understand that.. but when I asked Kaname about what happened he never told me. It wasn't until one day I had found him sleeping on the sofa having a nap and I managed to look into his memories. I know what exactly happened, I saw it as if I was there standing in Kaname's place. If you can't trust Kaname's word, trust mine."

"I see.. The Kuran Family really does have flaws with its family members doesn't it?" Quentin laughed and it made you give a little chuckle in response. You wasn't expecting such a reaction.

"It does, don't forget you have the Kuran name too. You are Rido's son after all."

"You say that as if I should be proud. I know what my father was."

"But you still loved him even though you knew what he was capable of."

"I did... I still do."

"Do you remember what you told me the night you met me?"

"I remember everything."

"Then you remember how you described your father and your own idealism. You said you wouldn't hurt me because your father wasn't present. You told me I didn't have to be scared of you..." You turned your head towards him. "Is that still true?"

He sighed and looked down to you, "Truth be told, I don't know what I want you to do. You're the only girl I've ever felt protective about, I cared for you back when you were human.. I still do. But I've hurt you now, intentionally.. I've even used a hunters relic on you that could kill you. All because I wanted Kaname to pay because I thought he'd been the one to kill my father."

"Rido got himself killed, it was his own actions that led that fate. He tried to hurt Yuuki and I to get to Kaname. In the end, Zero was the one who killed him but he only did that to save us from living in fear again. He did it so we would be safe from him."

"I wasn't aware he went after you and Yuuki.. The Senate never told me. They just told me that my father had died and Kaname was the one who had killed him. I've never felt so angry in my life, I might not have seen eye to eye with my father about things but I still loved him. He had moments where I'd treasure them because he'd spend time with just me.. He'd take care of me, give me the attention I needed as child growing up, he was a good dad to me."

"I'm sorry that they had to kill him.. If there was a potential chance to have changed his way of thinking, I would have urged we took it. Quentin, you have Senri. You have family, isn't that enough? I know it's enough for me that I have Kaname and Yuuki. It'd be a bonus if we could get along like we used to when I was human."

"Would you even want that after everything I've done to you?"

"Everyone makes mistakes."

"But-"

"Quentin, I forgive you."

He stared at you stunned as you took the chains off him, you stood up and held out your hand for him to take. "Why?"

"Because everyone deserves a second chance. You got told what people wanted to tell you, not the whole story. I still believe that the boy I knew when I was human is still in you. Prove it to me and let's go take this relic off."

His eyes started to water and he took your hand as you pulled him up. He embraced you in a hug and nodded, "I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry Elissa... For everything."

"I know, let's go find Yagari before this bracelet does finish it's job on me." You told him pulling out of his embrace, you took his hand and pulled him out of the cell and towards where Yagari was.

Kaname was still with Kaien and Yagari and  once they saw you both they went to pin Quentin but you stopped them, "It's okay! He's going to take it off." Once you said that they stopped in their tracks. Yagari opened the book and Quentin stood next to him looking at what the book said.

"What was the end goal for the bracelet?" Kaname asked what everyone dreaded to ask. Quentin looked up at him and looked away nervously, he didn't want to say anything.

"Does it matter?" You questioned, just happy to be getting the bracelet off finally.

"Yes, it does for me. I want to know what he had in store for you."

"You're going to both hate me if I tell you... even if I was blinded by half truths and rage." Quentin stated and Kaname raised an eyebrow. Kaien now being curious about it too.

"Tell us." Kaien stated and Quentin stared at his sword he had half opened. You decided to take the sword from him just in case of any incidents.

"I wanted the bracelet to make her kill Kaname for me. I knew Zero would fail, Yuuki wouldn't do it, but I know if I had the relic on one of you... It would work." Quentin explained and you dropped the sword instantly, you didn't want to be anywhere near Kaname at that point.

"Okay, let's get this off me now please." You stated shakily, Kaname noticed and snapped out of his shock to calm you down.

Soon enough they started to do the spell to get the bracelet off. It started glowing brightly and you fell to your knees in pain, it through them off but you could hear Yagari yelling in the background to keep going and not to stop until it came off. You saw Zero approaching and you screamed out in pain. The pain was unbearable, it felt like you were being stabbed 100 times over and over.

You looked to Quentin and nodded to make him obey Yagari and he nodded back continuing the spell. You looked up to everyone in the circle around you, once your eyes landed on Kaname your head was filled with whisperings.

"Do it."

"Kill him."

"He only brings nothing but grief to you."

"He betrayed your trust."

"He betrayed you."

"DO IT."

"Get out of my head! I won't do it! Stop it!" You screamed out, hoping that someone would stop the pain, stop the voices and the urge to follow through with it.

"Keep going Quentin!" Yagari yelled and you screamed again.

"If you do the task the pain stops."

You looked up at Kaname with hard eyes, the thought of the pain going away lingering in your head. "The pain will stop...?" You whispered to yourself.

"Yes, do it."

Your hand grabbed the sword that you had dropped just minutes before. You took a few deep breathes, "The pain will stop.." You looked up to Kaname and yelled out his name in a strained tone. You wanted the pain to leave. You needed it to leave, you felt like you couldn't breathe.

You screamed out and instantly moved with the sword towards Kaname, "Kaname look out!" Kaien and Zero yelled as they tried to stop you but you were out of their reach.

You arrived in front of Kaname and he embraced you in a hug, you felt the pain leave and felt the bracelet drop off. They all rushed up to you both and you both dropped to your knees. "It's okay Elissa, it's alright. You're alright." Kaname soothed you as your eyes watered. You hugged him back and then pulled away.

"I feel light.." You stated and you looked down seeing the shine on the sword where the light was hitting it.

You saw it in Kaname's chest.

Panic set in and you started crying, tears streamed down and you pulled the sword out instantly throwing it across the room away from the pair of you. Kaname spat out blood and you let out a scream, the ground shook, walls were cracking.

"Kaname- I- I- I did this.. I'm so sorry! You're not dying on me Kaname!" You screamed as you cried out. You felt arms around you and realised Quentin was kneeling behind you trying to comfort you, that was when you felt his hand and you fell limp in his arms, your eyes were heavy and the last thing you saw was Kaname fall on the floor on his side.
