Chapter Twenty

"Quentin you promised she wouldn't get hurt! You promised you'd take it off her!" Zero struggled against Yagari and Tara.

"That is true, but you failed to hold your end of the bargain up." Quentin looked over to him in the corner of his eyes.

"What is he talking about Zero?" You asked scared of the answer.

"He asked you to kill me didn't he?" Kaname asked from behind you and your eyes widened horrified as Zero just simply nodded.

"Zero... You idiot!" You screamed at him causing Zero's eyes to widen. He stared at you wide eyed as you called him an idiot. It certainly took him by surprise. "What were you thinking?!"

"He told me if I got rid of Kaname for him you'd be safe. He'd stop the bracelet and take it off you." Zero explained to you as you gave a hateful look to Quentin.

"Don't let him touch her Kuran!" Yagari yelled out to which Kaname pulled you behind him. He striked Quentin with his powers and sent him flying back into the wall with a kick. You saw Kaname remove his hand from his waist and you saw his wound close up.

More hunters came in with guns and pointed them at Quentin and some were pointed at Zero.

"Lower your guns!" Tara yelled at the hunters pointing their guns in Zero's direction. They did as they were told and you were relieved she was looking out for him. "We could do with your fathers help, Elissa. He can subdue Zero better." Tara explained and it made you remember the bracelet Kaien had given you and Yuuki to use on Zero if he ever stepped out of line. You walked over and pulled your sleeve up, since being back around Zero you had started wearing it again. After all, you had made a promise to him that you would use it to stop Zero should he attack someone.

You put your wrist in line with his tattoo/mark and he instantly fell to the floor. You sighed as you watched it happen. You hated using that technique on him, he said he felt powerless when in that state and you knew he was much like you, he hated to be powerless or even feel remotely powerless.

"Well that's an entertaining sight. Seeing Zero become so submissive like that is a sight to see." Quentin chuckled as he stood back up.

"Whilst he's down for the count we have something to discuss Kaname. Elissa is struggling to remember that I met her when we were younger. Whilst she was human. Isn't it time you give her memories back?" He smirked at Kaname as you watched Kaname's reaction to the taunt. His eyes widened slightly and he averted his eyes from you to Quentin full of rage.

"Wait- Quentin wasn't lying?... You really did take my memories?" You asked Kaname who looked back at you with a guilty expression on his face.

"I wanted to protect you, he is Rido's son."

"And so is Senri! You-"

"Senri isn't a threat! He's loyal to me, Elissa."

"And because Quentin isn't that gives you the right to take my memories?!"

Kaname moved closer to you as your anger grew, "I was protecting you from him. Rido was still around I couldn't risk it!"

"Give me my memories back Kaname! Did you ever think this wouldn't have happened if you hadn't of taken them?!" You told him and he sighed, he looked sad but it was mixed with a hint of anger. You hadn't raised your voice at him at all but he wasn't angry at you, you knew that.

He nodded and touched your forehead, you saw moving pictures in front of you as you started to remember the boy from all those years ago.

You were sat just outside the school grounds on the grass staring up at the sky. Yuki had already gone to sleep and Zero was nowhere to be found. He always has his hiding spaces that you couldn't find.

Your body shot up when you heard a twig snap, stood in the trees in front of you was a boy. He looked to be around Zero's age. He was taller than you no doubt. He stood watching you, he looked a bit hesitant.

"Uhm, hello.. I didn't mean to frighten you.." His voice was quiet but loud enough for you to hear.

"Who are you? I'm not supposed to talk to strangers.." You called back on your guard. Getting flashbacks from the night you were attacked.

"My name is Quentin... I got lost and was wondering if you could give me directions?" He stated and you stood up.

"I'm not really good at directions-"

"Oh, I see.. Can I at least know your name?"

"My name?"

"Yes.. You're the first human I've met this closely-"

You felt your body start trembling as you realised what he was, your voice started shaking, "Y-You're a V-Vampire?!"

"Please don't be afraid of me. I'm not going to hurt you... There's no chance of that since my father isn't here..."

"What do you mean?..."

"My father disregards human life. He only sees humans as food. But I have a different approach, I won't hurt a human. Not unless they attack me first.."

".. My names Elissa.."

"Elissa... that's a beautiful name. I'll go find my way."

You nodded silently as the boy left, disappearing in the trees. "Elissa! I felt a vampires presence, where is it?" Zero came running up to you and you turned away from the trees to Zero.

"I don't know, I haven't seen any." You spoke and he sighed of relief.

"Maybe it was just me.. come on then, let's head back inside. I think the old man was looking for us."  Zero took hold of your hand and pulled you away.

You staggered back, Kaname failing to catch you due to your hands swiping at Kaname's not allowing him to touch you. You fell into someone's arms and turned to find it was Yagari and Kaien. You turned back towards Kaname who wasn't sure what to do or say that would make it right or at least somewhat better.

You weren't even sure what he could do or say to make it better. You felt completely betrayed by Kaname.

"I told you." You heard from the right side of you, it was Quentin. He was standing up now and was surrounded by hunters. He wasn't smiling at all. Not even his sinister smile.

He was just staring blankly at Kaname. You saw a bit of hatred in his eyes though. You gripped your staff tightly as tears welled up in your eyes, you looked down towards your staff and the floor. You could see the bracelet glowing again and you looked over to Quentin.

He looked at you as he noticed your head turn, the sight of tears must have threw him off cause his eyes widened. He stared at you as you stared at him, trying to think of anything that would help get him to take the bracelet off.

"Q! I was wondering where you'd got to!- Wait... What's the matter?..."

The boy who stood before you looked broken, his eyes were watery. He was slumped over, barely even standing. You ran up to him and held his weight on you, helping him to a tree to help him stand. He was covered in blood and you were very concerned. You started to pat him down for wounds but his hands caught your wrists. His grip had grown stronger from what he would usually use on you. It started to hurt a bit but you didn't mind. You wanted to make sure he was alright first.

Your eyes connected to his, his eyes were cold not like before. His eyes were full of warmth in the time you had known Quentin. Now... They were cold and dull..

"Are you alright?.." You spoke softly barely even a whisper. You felt like if you said the wrong word he'd break into pieces.

"Far from it..." Quentin got out just about before hissing, "I'm not the same person you once knew Elissa.. I've hurt humans.. Vampires.. Hunters.."

"But you won't hurt me.. or anyone important to me.. I trust you Q.."

"My father is dead."

"Oh my god- What happened?!"

"I got told it was the Kuran Family... More importantly, Kaname Kuran dealt the final blow."

"W-What- Ka- Kaname wouldn't do that.."

"You know that monster?!" Quentin yelled, suddenly jumping on you gripping onto your neck. Your eyes widened at the sudden action, he was starting to scare you.

"Q?-"

"You know Kaname Kuran?! Yes or no?!"

"Yes!" You squeezed out, he was pressing down on your neck in his blinded rage.

"How?! You're just a human!"

"H-He saved my sister and I- W-When we were attacked- By a vampire-!" You struggled and started to tap his wrists. He slowly removed his hands from your neck causing you to take in a deep breath and start coughing. He got off you and helped you sit back up.

"I- I apologise for my actions.. I just heard his name and... I'm sorry.. Please don't be afraid of me..."

"I'm not.. You just scared me for a moment there.. for the time I've known Kaname he's very reserved so I can't see him doing something like that without a reason... But I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.. I'll try help you and get the truth from him."

"You'd do that?.."

"I would. I know how it feels to have parents taken from you.. I had both of mine taken from us.. I can't exactly remember how though.."

"I'm sorry.."

"I'm sorry about your father too.."

"Elissa? Who are you talking to-" You heard Kaname's voice and looked over behind you as did Quentin who was already striking Kaname. Kaname just narrowed his eyes at him as you shrieked in the sudden action.

"You dare strike me? Dear cousin?" Kaname asked him, it was more of a taunt. You stared at the pair and then focused on what Kaname had said, "Wait you're cousins?"

Your question went unanswered as you saw Quentin's face full of anger and rage, meanwhile Kaname didn't look phased at all. He looked calm as if nothing was wrong, he looked over to you and then back to Quentin.

"So this is your ploy to get revenge? Get someone I truly care about to befriend you and trust you? Only so you can take them from me in the end? Was that it? Because you'll never have the blood of Kuran in your grasp!" Kaname asked, he started quiet and as he progressed he started to get angrier. The ground shook below you and Quentin froze.

"The blood of Kuran?.. What?-"

"Yes, haven't you guessed it?"

Quentin stared at you and glanced back to Kaname. His eyes widened as you stared at him confused, "She's your..?"

"She is."

Kaname was about to rip into Quentin with his powers and you could feel it. You stood in front of him and shielded Quentin from Kaname's attack which he tried to stop instantly. "Kaname stop this! He's no threat to us!"

You were picked up and shielded suddenly, you looked up and saw Quentin hunched over you. He sighed of relief when he saw you were alright. He fell down into your embrace, Kaname checked you worried he'd hurt you by accident.

"Do not ever do something so Reckless like that again!" Kaname exclaimed, his eyes watered as he held you close to him.

"I'm sorry! It's just I know Quentin and he's nothing like this usually! I promise! He's really kind and-"

"No, he's not. He's a monster, just like his father."

"So you did kill his father?-"

"You don't need to know any of this. You just need to live a peaceful life like mother and father wanted. I'm sorry Elissa." Kaname put his hand over your eyes and you felt your eyes close.

"Q! I know what happened to your father." You yelled out to him and his eyes widened as you used his used to be nickname. His eyes watered and you saw a tear run down for a brief moment.

He smiled at you, a genuine smile that the boy you knew smiled.

That was the last thing you saw before you blacked out completely.
