Chapter 7

Flyleaf- Again

______________________________________

"Hey, look. What's a Night Class student doing here?" Students question as Tatsuki walks around campus with her parasol in broad daylight. Tatsuki ignores them because she truly has no care for their curiosity. She just plans to do what Ichio asked her to do: Provoke Zero, and figure out Kaname's plans. Simple enough if you're Tatsuki Shiki.

"Night Class students shouldn't be out here at this ti-" Yuki stops her scolding as she realizes that she was scolding Tatsuki. The girl with the mismatching eyes that scares her to death, and not knowing why. "T-Tatsuki-san." She calls out with a slight tremor to her voice, feeling her heart hammer in her chest as those eyes meet hers. She quickly diverts her gaze, and looks over her shoulder instead.

Yuki tenses up as Tatsuki walks towards her. She stops beside Yuki, and puts a hand to her shoulder making her jump. "I'm not the one you should be worrying about." The way Tatsuki says it makes Yuki's blood run cold. She removes her hand as Zero finally approaches, and catches sight of Tatsuki near a petrified Yuki. He hasn't seen her like this in a while, and he wants to know exactly what Tatsuki said to scare her so much.

"You're not supposed to be out here." Zero says as he rudely grips her wrist, her bones grind against each other with the force he's using.

"Neither are you, but you're still here. Just like me your home is over there." Tatsuki says pointing towards the Moon Dormitory. His grip on her wrist tightens, but Tatsuki isn't fazed. Or at least she tries not to show it as the pain of her wrist is very much real.

"Zero! Stop! I'm sure Tatsuki-san was going back to the Moon Dorms." Yuki says a little surprised that Tatsuki knows Zero is a vampire. "You were leaving, right?" Yuki questions her as she keeps her eyes downcast. In spite of trying to sound brave, she just can't do it if it means having to meet her eyes.

"Not until I figure out what she said to scare you so much." Zero says getting all defensive.

"She didn't!" Yuki says waving her hands in front of her nervously.

"I have done nothing, but you do fear me, Yuki Cross." Tatsuki says to her. Yuki gulps, and begins to feel lightheaded. Zero doesn't notice and pulls Tatsuki away from the Day Class and Yuki.

"Hey, Kiryu-kun is holding that Night Class girl's hand. Do you think he's got it in for her?" Day Class students whisper as they watch the pair leave. Making up their own rumors and assumptions as to who Tatsuki Shiki really is and what possible relationship she could have to anyone she interacts with.

"She looks a lot like Senri-kun." Fangirls whisper as they disappear, but their curiosity is at their peak, but Yuki's fear is at it's peak. Her heart still hasn't calmed down, and her shoulder still feels Tatsuki's cold touch. She wants to know why Tatsuki scares her so much. She needs to know now. For now she has to keep curious students at bay and send them back in for their final class of the day.

"What did you say to Yuki?" Zero questions Tatsuki as they stand in front of the Moon Dorm gates.

"Nothing in particular. She's just afraid of me." Tatsuki tells him at least that truth.

"Who are you? Really, who are you and why are you here? I doubt you're just here for family bonding." Zero questions her not trusting her like all other vampires. He holds a particular distrust akin to what he feels for Kaname and his true intentions. A sensation that both of them have to do something with Yuki's past really nags at him.

"Think what you will. I'm not going to answer questions I find irrelevant to the cause. You just dislike me because Shizuka-sama killed your family, and you blame all my kind for your family's deaths. Why? When it was her and your brother." Zero's grip loosens on Tatsuki's wrist as shock settles in him.

"How do you know so much about me?!" He questions her a little afraid to find out her answer. The wrist Zero still has in his hand, Tatsuki removes in order to put her hand to his cool cheek.

"When someone interests me I find out all I can about them. Right now you're my priority." Tatsuki says to him with a half truth and a half lie. He can't tell what she means. What she knows about him already scares him half to death.

"Why me?" Tatsuki continues to stroke his cheek gently.

"You seem to be a prize among purebloods, and I want to know why. Shizuka-sama, that bastard Rido, and then there's Kaname Kuran. I wonder what it is." A slight breeze brings chills to each of them. Especially Tatsuki. It's like she's not herself. She feels a little insane. So she tries to find herself, and lose that emotion of insanity. Insanity that seems to run on either side of her families.

"That look. What do you call it? It's like a mix of anger, sorrow, and confusion. Is it just those three emotions or do they combine to make one?" Tatsuki questions in her innocent self. Zero is slightly taken aback by the odd girl who suddenly changed the subject.

"Just go away." He says to her removing her hand from his cheek.

"I'm not done with you. I have something to accomplish. I don't know why, but I have to." Tatsuki bites her finger, and lets her blood drop, but it starts to harden, and hangs there on her finger like a whip. She raises her hand, and purposely misses Zero to hit the tree beside him, but Tatsuki still manages to slightly scratch the cheek she had recently touched gently. Zero moves out of the way, and pulls out his Bloody Rose gun, not sure what Tatsuki's sudden change was all about.

If she truly wanted to hurt him she could have, but she isn't using her full power, but near it since apparently Zero is giving it his all. "No, he's not taking this seriously either." Tatsuki notices as he shoots at her, and misses her every time. It's almost like as if they were kids and are simply playing a small game. Except if Zero does shoot at her in the right spot, she'd die.

The distraction of her thoughts puts her a little off guard, and the bullet grazes her arm. She drops her blood whip, and grips her stinging arm. It's a small cut, but it burns badly. She hasn't felt pain like this in a while. The pain gives her scary flashes of her horrid childhood. Of every time Rido would physically injure her.

"No, papa. It hurts. Don't hurt me, papa." Tatsuki drops to her side, and begins to tremble. Her eyes are open wide in fear, and tears slip out of her eyes as she grips her arm. Zero kneels down next to her, and looks down at her. There is so much wrong in her. He knows he shouldn't, and he doesn't want to, but he also does want to help her and avoid trouble with the Headmaster. He bites his wrist, and drips his blood into her mouth, so her injury can heal faster.

"Zero! What did you?" He looks up to find the Headmaster heading his way. He covers his wrist before he can see it. He rushes over towards Tatsuki, and sees her injury. "Zero, go. I'll tend to her." He looks over at him, and watches Zero's hesitation. He sighs, and picks the small Tatsuki who has a far away look in her mismatching eyes.

                                                                   ~0~

"Ow!" Senri sits up abruptly in his bed, holding his arm. A pain shot through it and it woke him from a deep sleep. He unbuttons his night shirt and pulls it off to look at his arm. There is nothing there. He tries to think through what it could have been, but he really doesn't feel anything at all. "Tatsuki..."

Senri bolts out of bed as realization sets in, and with his night shirt still hanging on his arms, he knocks on her door, but there is no response from the other side. He tugs on the door, but it doesn't budge. She always leaves her dorm door open for him when she's there, so he's worried that she's not there now. He goes back to his room and grabs his phone to try and call her.

"Hello? Shiki-kun?" Senri jumps at the male voice on the other side. It takes him a bit, but he recognizes Kaien Cross's voices.

"Headmaster, why do you have Tatsuki's phone?" His head fills with every worst case scenario and it fills him with anxiety. He's not used to such feelings and sensations crossing through him. He's not even sure how to deal with those emotions he's learned to suppress his entire life.

"There was a minor incident, but she's alright. She's resting in the school infirma-" The line cuts as Senri hangs up and he runs out of his room, not bothering to change or even put on shoes. He hasn't put that much effort in physical activity in a long time. He actually ends up climbing over the Moon Dorm wall just to get to Tatsuki as soon as possible.

As he enters the school building, he stops running and slows down, trying to settle himself as he sees Kaien waiting for him outside of the infirmary. He walks over to him and is startled to see him barefoot and in an unbuttoned night shirt.

"Shiki-kun, you must be-"

"Tatsuki, I want to see her. How is she?" He interrupts Kaien who removes his shawl and puts it over Senri's shoulders.

"Well, she's lying down as we wait for her scratch to heal. I believe it hurt her quite a bit and made her cry. Try not to startle her and overwhelm her with too many questions." Kaien tells him, watching his slight frown disappear as he buries his feelings.

"I got it, I won't be a bother to her." He finally answers and enters the infirmary. Tatsuki doesn't even flinch with her back to him. He walks over to the other side of the bed, looking at her bandaged arm that has some blood seeping through it. He moves her bandage and leans down to have a taste of her blood, to get answers from her, but what he sees is something he did not expect.

"Shiki-kun, Yuki and Zero will be posted outside of the door to make sure that while the students are leaving, no one tries to come in." He only nods and continues to watch over Tatsuki as he closes the door again.

Senri sits there in the infirmary while Tatsuki lies turned to her side with her eyes still moist from crying, but she is still gone from the present moment after he had gone through that whole vision of memories that were present in her mind. Once the visions had cleared, he pulled out his fangs and puts the bandage back over her arm.

He wipes away her tears again, and looks into her eyes closely. Her eyes finally move to meet his gaze. "Tatsuki, what happened?" Senri tries again, still no answer. Right now she's trying to block away the painful memories. Forgetting the pain she had to go through. Senri goes to the other side of the bed, and lies beside her. Trying to comfort her.

"It's warm." Tatsuki finally says after the long hours of silence.

"Do you hate it?" She shakes her head, and buries her face on Senri's chest when she turns around to face him.

"I want to forget." Tatsuki murmurs onto his chest.

"Why don't you?" He questions her.

"I can't." She answers him. Senri knows talking about it will make it worse, so he decides to change the topic.

"How's your injury?" Senri questions looking at her bandaged arm.

"It's healed. I don't understand, but Zero gave me his blood. He helped me in spite of hating our kind." Tatsuki tells Senri.

"Tell me why you did it?" Tatsuki instantly figures out that while in shock Senri had looked through her memories. She knows that Senri found out what the Vampire Council is up to something, and they need her for it.

"To protect you." She tells him that truth. The only real reason she did what she did. Silence once more fills the room. "You don't believe me." Tatsuki says figuring out Senri's silence.

"I don't know if I should. I still don't know a thing about you. Just your past." Senri tells her.

"I see." Tatsuki gets out of Senri's embrace, and sits up on the bed. "I never should have come here if I was going to start becoming soft like he said. I would have lived on, and maybe none of this would be happening." Tatsuki says getting out of bed. Senri bites his finger, and uses his blood whip to pull Tatsuki back.

"You're not leaving. I'm not letting you handle this on your own anymore. Isn't that why you came to find me in the first place? You didn't want to be alone anymore." Tatsuki looks at Senri's blood holding her.

"I didn't want to be alone?" Tatsuki questions. "Is that it? Was I alone, and I didn't want to be anymore?" Tatsuki questions feeling her eyes sting. "My eyes hurt, Senri." Tatsuki tells him as she turns around. "Why do they hurt?" Tatsuki questions as her vision blurs.

"You're crying." Senri tells her letting her go, and standing up in front of her.

"I am sad then?" Tatsuki asks him. He nods his head, and holds her.

"I can help. Just tell me what I can do." Senri says stroking her long mahogany hair.

"I don't know what the Senate is planning. They just want me to provoke Zero, and find out what Kaname is planning. I don't know the reason, but I don't think it's good." Tatsuki tells him finally accepting her brother's help.

"We'll find it. Maybe Takuma can help." Tatsuki nods her head, and looks out to the sky that is darkening. Though, she really isn't looking forward to seeing Takuma after she set the fangirls after him. She wonders how he managed to get away from them.

"Lets go, Senri. I'm hungry." She says to him. He nods his head, and they escape through the window, and go back towards the Moon Dorms to rest up and be ready to discuss things with Takuma in a proper way the next night. The only sign they had been there at all is  the abandoned shawl of Kaien Cross and the messy infirmary bed.
