My Vampire Nekos
"ALONDRA!" I nearly have a heart attack at the sound of my dad's scream from his room all the way on the other side of the house. I sit up, and look at my cellphone. I nearly scream out once I see the time. I rush out of my over sized bed, and run like the devil is at my heels to the bathroom.
My name is Alondra Sanchez. 17 year old girl going to my first day of high school my Senior year. Sure I don't have my early morning class yet, but it still sucks having to get up early for my new daily routine for the next nine months. Ugh!
I put my MP3 at full blast just so I won't hear my dad's scolding as he rushes us out. No, he's not a stay at home dad, he just works in the afternoon. Not that you care, but I gotta fill this space somehow. I finish up, but now I have to wait for my slow ass little sister, who just like me is less of a morning person.
I go to the car, and wait for her. Beeping every five seconds as it gets later and later. I hate speeding, but looks like I'm not going to have much of a choice. I beep one last time before doing something I have never done before. I leave without her. I don't know what made me want to do it, but I left.
Of course I'm not the only one on the road. I'm always an early person, so I rarely have to deal with rushing. But not today. . . All because my freaking alarm clock didn't go off. So now I drive behind idiot drivers and other people who go with the flow and don't care about being late to their destination. Unfortunately I care about being a timely person, being early always gets me the best seat, unless it's assigned seating. Then it doesn't really matter. It also helps avoid the crowds.
Finally I rudely force my way into the church across the street from the high school and park. I don't have a permit to park at the high school parking lot, nor do I feel like going through that process. It's just one more year of high school for me anyway.
I reach for my Jack Skellington backpack, and my MP3. I curse as I realize that my music got shuffled with my rush, so I fix it, and walk along blindly before reaching the street, though I don't make it.
"Eeep!" I fall on the cool grass getting my new black dress all wet. I would have cursed, but I started hearing meowing, and angry voices. I get on my knees, and turn back to find a taped off box. The noise is coming from there. I hear two voices, but the box is barely big enough to hold at least a newborn infant. . .don't ask how I know that.
I crawl over to the box, and take off the tape holding it closed. There is quite a bit of movement going on in the box, it scares me to open it. I close my eyes, and open the box. The voices stop, and I take a slight peek, then rubbing my eyes not believing what I was seeing. It's still there. I rub my eyes harder until I see black spots. They clear, but they're still there. I pinch myself hard. "Ow!"
"You're not dreaming, idiot!" The silver haired, tiny little humanoid with cat ears, yells out at me.
"Holy crap. They talk." I say stunned, and reach for them.
"Try and pet us. I'll bite you." I quickly pull my hand away from the feisty silver haired neko. Yes, that's right. Hard to believe that I'm in front of two small nekos. I look over at the brown haired one, who looks at me sadly. Or maybe that's just how his eyes look in general.
"Please don't leave us here." He pleads with me. I blush at their adorableness.
"So cute!" My inner voice squeals as I really take a look at them in a more calm fashion. I couldn't resist and pick up the two tiny nekos. I'm 5'5 so it looks like they're up to my knees at least if they stood in front of me. That's not that big at all.
"I told you not to touch me!" The silver haired one yells out at me as he tries to push against my chest to create some distance between us.
"You said not to pet you, and I'm not. I'm hugging you." I tell him, and he blushes. I hear a bell ring. I don't think anything of it until I realize that I'm late for class.
"Fuck!" I stand up abruptly, and run fast towards the school. Not caring about the cars that had to stop abruptly because of me. I was in too much of a rush to care. There's no way I wanted to be late my first day of school. Lucky for me my first class is close to the school entrance.
"Phew." I look relieved to find that the teacher hasn't arrived yet, and I also just realized I brought the nekos with me. I've got a lot of attention from the girls in my Child Development class. I sigh, and if it wasn't a full class I would have sat on my own, but sadly that isn't the case. At least there's a corner seat, so I don't have to worry about being surrounded by people much. Sadly, I don't enjoy sitting in the back row though, oh well.
I take a seat, and set the two nekos on the table in front of me. They don't say anything as I sit them down in front of me. "Nice stuffed animals. Weirdo." First day, and I already have a bully, but once she knows me she'll never mess with me again. She'll ignore me like any other bully that deals with my "fight back" attitude.
"Thanks, you must have a lot of personal experience in identifying weirdos." She glares at me, thrown off by my bright smile and no real reaction to her words.
"You bitch!" She yells at me.
"The biggest." I say not losing my smile, pressing my hands together in an innocent way to show her how unaffected I am by her insults. It's like she hasn't realized, I don't care what strangers think about me.
"You kn-"
"Leave her alone!" The brown haired neko yells out. Neither of us were expecting either of my nekos to speak up. The girl screams, and so do the others. I pull them back, not sure what to say to the fact that they're alive. Hey maybe they'll buy that they're actually robots with really intelligent A.I.
"Hey, don't worry about it, little guy. I'm used to people acting that way towards me." I tell him as he looks up at me with his reddish-brown eyes.
I pet his brown hair, so he can stop looking so sad. The silver haired one stays in a foul mood. The teacher steps in, and notices the freaked out looks of every person in here. They explain everything in a mess. Going on about demon possessed toys, me being a witch with voodoo powers, and all this other unrealistic crap. This is why I hate this place because this place is completely ignorant to anime and manga, so they have no idea what a neko is. At least from a majority of students I've ever interacted with. Very rarely do we find anime or manga lovers in high school.
"Alondra, what do you have there?" Mrs. Burt, the teacher questions me.
"Uh. Neko-bots?" I tell her in a half truth.
"What?" She questions me, looks like my clever name went over her head.
"Them. They're just uh robot toys." I say pointing to the two nekos who look up at her. "They're not hurting anybody. I can turn them off." I tell her with a shrug.
"Well. Just make sure to take care of them. I don't want to be responsible for you losing them." She says unsure of how to handle this. Maybe she's treating them as some kind of robotic toys. Looks like she bought it.
"You got it." I salute her, and sit there as people sneak looks at my two nekos, and well the girl that was sitting beside me had moved away, not that I mind. It was actually very much welcomed. It looks like some of them do not believe the neko-bot story. Well, that's fine, they'll find their own explanation as to what these two are. I mean, I'm not even sure I believe that I just got my hands on two nekos.
We sit there as the teacher starts introductions for the first day. I really don't want to pay attention. I turn my syllabus over, looks like there is space for me to write to them, and grab my pencil. The nekos look curiously at me, and I decide to write to them.
"Hey, my name's Alondra. What are you guys named?" I write out to them. They look at me, and shake their heads.
"You don't have names?" I write out again. They shake their heads again. I put the pencil pensively to my chin, and think of what I can name them. A light bulb flashes, and I make it up. Or rather I draw inspiration from my manga and anime that I've seen.
"Okay if that's the case. I'm naming you Kaname."
I draw an arrow to the brown haired one. He looks at the name, and smiles in agreement. I smile back. I look back at silver haired neko, who isn't liking the idea of me naming him.
"How does 'Zero' sound to you?"
I write to him. He blushes, and looks away. I'm just gonna guess he likes it. I'm going to call him 'Zero'.
"Alright now that we've got that settled as soon as school is over we have a lot to talk about." I write to them. They nod their heads, and we wait for this day to be done and over with.

"Oh. I forgot. I left my sister behind, so she's going to be pretty pissed. My dad will be at work at this point, so he has hours to get over it. Probably." I say aloud as I take both Kaname and Zero in my arms. Once again people look over at me as they notice the two creatures in my arms. There are mixed reactions, but not one of them approaches me.
"You have a sister?" Kaname questions me.
"Yeah. I'm dead, but I couldn't wait for her anymore. I was already running late to begin with. I'm a person who hates to be late." I tell him honestly. "And then I have way more explanations to do about you guys to my family, today is not my day." I say with a sigh.
"Nobody asked you to take us home with you." Zero says to me. I shake my head.
"Being angry to hide your own insecurities doesn't help. I should know. Tried it. . .didn't work out so well, so I just smile, and that really gets people!" I tell him as he growls. "I thought you were a neko not a dog." I tell him.
"I'm going to bite you if you don't shut up." He tells me. I roll my brown eyes at him.
"Then bite me." I tell him. He tenses up in my arm, and I smile satisfied.
My sister steps out, but rudely ignores me as she scrolls through her IPod. I roll my eyes. I'm surprised she hasn't questioned me on Kaname and Zero. Either she thinks they're toys or she hasn't seen them yet. I shrug, and we walk towards the awaiting vehicle.
"Hey, you're going to have to sit in the back." I tell her not unlocking the car yet.
"Why?" She says getting annoyed with me. Though that's her constant state whenever I try to talk to her, it's like I offended her in some way in spite of never really saying anything to her sometimes.
"I gotta sit them somewhere." I tell her as I lift Zero and Kaname up. They wave at her, and she nearly drops her I Pod.
"Wh-what are they?!" She yells out, freaked out.
"Nekos." She looks at me confused. I hate my family. Even they don't know what anime is. Ugh. Though, I'm positive they cringe at my tastes too, so I guess we are even.
"Half people. Half cat." I explain to her.
"Where the hell did you get them?" She questions me.
"In that box over there." I tell her pointing to the box people are ignoring now that it is empty. "Now go sit in the back." She gives me the middle finger, and does so. Every single time she does so, I only end up rolling my eyes in response. Sometimes it gets to me, but not today.
"Geez." I get in, putting Kaname and Zero in the passenger seat. Safety comes first, so I buckle them up together. It looks like they're trying to put some distance between the two of them. Weird.

"Oh my gosh!" I close my eyes as my mom drops her food at the sight of Kaname and Zero. Looks like they look too real to be toys to her eyes too.
"They're nekos! As in half human half cat creatures! Though they're really tiny." I explain before she gets into questioning. I'm pretty sure just like everyone else she doesn't believe what she is seeing. I didn't even bother using the bot excuse with her, she's just going to have to believe they exist now.
"Sit down mom, and we'll talk about this when you're calm." I tell her going to the living room, and sitting on my usual couch that hides my laptop, but I won't be using it today. Though, people must be utterly confused as to why I'm so calm about all of this. Honestly, I already had my freak out earlier in the day and now I'm over it.
I sit them down on the coffee table in front of me, and observe them. They wear the exact same uniform except that Kaname's is white while Zero's is a navy blue color. I look to see their eyes. I look at all of the details I didn't notice earlier. Zero has piercing in his human ears. Wow that is so damn cute!
"What were you two doing in that box?" I question them.
"We don't know. We just woke up in that box, and then you freed us." Kaname tells me.
"Oh. I guess there's no point in asking where you two are from then, is there?" I question them, but they shake their heads. That's unfortunate, looks like they lost their memories or they never got to see anything that happened around them.
"I know you don't like me, Zero, but I don't think you have much of a choice on who gets to take care of you two. In this town I'm one of the rare people who knows what you two are. Also, even smaller fraction that would not use you for profit by showing you off online. As far as I know anyway." I tell them. Zero doesn't say anything, and simply faces the direction of the wide screen T.V. I sigh, and look back over at Kaname, who's being nicer to me. He pays attention to what I'm saying. I like him!
"You guys must be exhausted what with being in that box, and then having to spend a boring day at school with me." I tell them with a smile.
"A little bit." Kaname admits to me.
"We'll have to work on beds tomorrow. You guys can sleep in my bed. It's huge, so we don't have to worry about space and stuff." I tell them.
"This way." They jump off the coffee table, and follow after me. I walk slow so I won't leave them behind.
"That is a huge bed." Kaname says seeing the bed that is way taller than him.
"Yeah, my dad exaggerated big time, who knew it would actually be good for something. He bought them when I went on a trip to Europe. Here let me help you up." I offer as I lift both nekos to the bed.
"Give me the stuff you're not going to wear, so you can sleep comfortably." They remove their jackets and shoes. I take them, and set them on a small drawer that managed to fit in my tiny room with the huge bed.
"I'll be back later. You two rest up, okay?" They nod their heads, and sleep separate from each other. I thought they were friends. I guess they were just forced to be together. Well I'm sure I can get them to be friends. Cause now I have to take care of them. I'm not a cat person, but nekos are completely different. Meh. I'll let them sleep, and we can settle all this weirdness tomorrow.
Huh? Now that I think about it. . .my normal boring life just took a complete 180 turn. I think it's becoming a fun and exciting life from here on out. I just hope it lasts. I hate myself for quickly becoming attached to things and people. I'm a total hopeless nut job. If I find someone to love me that way, then it'll be a miracle.
"Night. Kaname. Night. Zero." They don't answer me since they're already fast asleep. I sigh, and make sure my sister doesn't disturb them. She likes her video games, but today she has to live without them. As much as I hate this I'm going to have to let her use my faster, better working laptop.
"Alondra." I stop at the sound of Zero's voice.
"Yeah?" I question him.
"Thanks." He blushes, and turns away. I chuckle lightly.
"Don't worry about it. Now sleep. I gotta make sure my sister doesn't disturb you guys." I head out, and leave them to sleep. My potential friends. My nekos.
