Recap: Agastya and Rakshan arrive on human land and Agastya find a little 5 years old girl, his mate.
*********************
Agastya and Rakshan stood frozen in shock. The Moon Goddess had granted Agastya a human mate, and she was only five years old. The little girl smiled innocently, nestled in Agastya's arms. For the first time in centuries, a genuine smile graced his face as he held her close.
Rakshan's voice broke the silence, snapping Agastya out of his trance. "My lord, is she... your mate?"
Agastya raised a hand, stopping Rakshan from speaking further. With a snap of his fingers, the little girl fell asleep instantly. Rising to his feet, Agastya gently carried her over his shoulder and looked at Rakshan.
"She is my mate," he confessed, his voice laced with a mix of awe and uncertainty. "But all I feel is care and affection for her."
Before Rakshan could respond, the Seer appeared before them, bowing deeply. "My lord, you will need help to raise her. Though she is your mate, you will not feel the desires of the bond until she is of the right age."
"What age would that be? Would it be 18, like when vampires find their mates?" Agastya inquired, eager to know everything about his mate.
The Seer shook her head. "Your Highness, she is human. When she hits puberty, she may start to feel the attraction due to the mate bond. By 18, she will be ready, but as a human, she might not be able to handle mating a vampire. You need to prepare her."
Rakshan voiced his concern. "What if she hates the king for preparing her without her knowledge?"
"Mating her without preparation could kill her," the Seer responded gravely.
The thought of his mate dying right after he'd found her filled Agastya with dread. "No way will I let her die. I'll prepare her and face the consequences when she grows up and questions me. For now, we need someone to raise her. I'll call Aashi. She can help."
"And what about you, Your Highness?" Rakshan asked, his voice filled with concern. He knew it wouldn't be easy to hide a human from the vampires, especially when Harsha was ready to challenge Agastya at any moment.
"I can't leave her alone. I've waited 1800 years to find her. I won't leave her now," Agastya replied with determination. "I'll find a way to fix whatever problems you're worried about."
The Seer smiled. "I am happy for you, my lord. I will take my leave and return when my presence is needed." With that, the Seer vanished into the air.
Agastya, with the sleeping girl in his arms, and Rakshan traced their way to the girl's home and vanished from the spot. Moments after their departure, a dark cloud appeared, gathering the bodies of the girl's parents and disappearing into the sky.
They arrived in front of a modest, single-story house. With a snap of Agastya's fingers, the lock fell to the ground, and they stepped inside. Rakshan looked around the small abode.
"Isn't this too small for a queen to grow up in? But changing it overnight might arouse suspicion among the humans."
Agastya mind-linked Aashi, and she appeared instantly. She looked bewildered at the sight of the little girl sleeping on Agastya's shoulder. Before she could ask, Agastya explained everything. Aashi touched the girl's head, closing her eyes to glimpse her past. When she opened her eyes, she smiled. She reached out to take the girl from Agastya, but he roared in warning.
"Calm down, brother," Aashi soothed. "I'm just taking her to bed. We need to talk."
Agastya composed himself, allowing Aashi to carry the girl. After she returned, they sat on the small couch, their large forms making the furniture seem even smaller.
"Her name is Yashvi," Aashi said. "She's five years old. Her parents died on their way back from the park."
"Yashvi," Agastya repeated, smiling as he spoke her name. He inhaled deeply, filling his senses with the scent of his mate that lingered in the small home.
"Aashi, I want you to stay here with me to raise Yashvi. You will not return to Blackgore or tell anyone about her."
"But what will you say when Rana or, especially Harsha, ask about my absence?" Aashi questioned.
"Leave that to me," Agastya replied, his voice firm. "You will not question my orders. If you are unwilling, you may leave now. But I think you owe it to the kingdom, the king, and the future queen of Blackgore."
Aashi bowed her head in submission. "I am ready to serve you and the queen, my lord."
"Good," Agastya said, placing a hand on her head. "We will live as humans, hiding our identity until Yashvi is ready to return to Blackgore as my mate. Now, swear upon the king and the throne that you will not reveal Yashvi to anyone."
"I swear, my lord," Aashi promised. "My loyalty lies with you and the kingdom. I will protect the queen with my life."
"Use your witch powers and build a home underground where we can live."
Aashi bowed again, chanting verses that opened a staircase leading underground. Agastya carried Yashvi down the steps, smiling as he saw the beautiful living space, furnished like a royal palace. He laid Yashvi on a small bed in one of the rooms and returned to the living area.
Gesturing for Rakshan to follow, they entered the master bedroom. Once inside, Agastya sealed the room with magic.
"We are returning to the kingdom, Raksha," Agastya said.
Rakshan was shocked. "But didn't you want to stay here with the queen?"
"I will clone us," Agastya explained. "My clone will go with you to the kingdom, and I will change your clone into Aashi. You will take her place."
Rakshan's eyes widened. "Me, as Aashi? Moon Goddess, Your Highness, how will I manage living with me disguised as my wife?"
"I'll share Aashi's memories with you. No one will suspect a thing."
"As you wish, my lord," Rakshan conceded.
Agastya closed his eyes, summoning a clone of himself. He extended his hand toward Rakshan, creating a clone of him as well, then transformed Rakshan's clone into Aashi, instilling her memories except for the part about Yashvi.
Rakshan sighed. "Do you think the curse that turns vampires to ashes for killing humans has something to do with your mate?"
"Maybe, maybe not," Agastya replied. "We'll have to wait and see. The curse is the one thing I haven't been able to solve. Perhaps Yashvi will hold the answers when she grows up."
"It's a good thing vampires feel human years like months," Rakshan said. "See you soon, my lord."
Agastya nodded. "Keep an eye on Harsha. No blood is to be spilled in the kingdom until the next ritual. Report any missing vampire immediately, especially if it's a female."
Rakshan bowed, and Agastya's clone, along with Rakshan and his clone as Aashi, returned to the kingdom.
Back in the underground home, Aashi sat next to Yashvi as Agastya entered the room. He gestured for Aashi to leave, then sat beside Yashvi, gently caressing her hair.
"I've waited 1800 years for you, Yashvi. You have a beautiful name. I can't wait to see the blue in your eyes, the warmth and peace they bring me. I hope you'll accept me and our bond when I tell you about us. It won't be easy, but I'll make sure we rule Blackgore as king and queen."
He kissed her forehead, feeling the sparks of their bond.
"See you in your dreams, Yashvi," he whispered.
Agastya closed his eyes and appeared in Yashvi's dream. She was running through a lush garden, her tiny hands clutching flowers. She called for her mother, searching the garden in vain.
Agastya appeared before her, crouching down to her height. He touched her head with love, and she smiled up at him, placing her small hand on his.
"Who are you? Did you see my mamma and daddy?" Yashvi asked, her voice curious.
"Yes, Yashvi," Agastya replied gently. "They had some important work, so they left you with me. I will take good care of you."
"But I want my mamma and daddy," she pouted. "What's your name?"
"My name is Agastya."
"Agastya, do you like flowers?" Yashvi asked, her mood brightening as she offered him the flowers she had gathered.
"Yes, Yashvi. I love flowers, especially the ones you give me."
"Will you play with me, Agastya?" she asked hopefully.
Agastya chuckled. "Of course, Yashvi. I'll always play with you."
"Promise?" she asked, holding out her pinky finger.
Agastya linked his pinky with hers. "Promise."
They played together, Yashvi's laughter filling the dream. As the garden faded, she yawned, rubbing her eyes.
"Baby, you're tired," Agastya said softly. "Let me take you to sleep."
Agastya gazed at Yashvi, his heart swelling with a profound tenderness as he whispered, "I'll always be here, Yashvi." He watched over her as she drifted off to sleep in the dream realm, her tiny form serene and peaceful.
When Agastya awoke, a soft smile graced his lips. He knew that in time, Yashvi would come to love him as much as he loved her. Until then, he vowed to protect her, guide her, and prepare her for the destiny that awaited them both.
As dawn approached, Agastya stood by the window, staring out at the dark sky, his thoughts a silent prayer to the moon goddess for his mate's safety. The first light of morning filled him with anticipation as he prepared to meet Yashvi again.
The sun had barely risen when Yashvi stirred awake, stretching and rubbing her eyes. She looked around the room in awe—it resembled a princess's chamber from her favorite cartoons. Excitement bubbled up within her as she scrambled out of bed, calling for her mother.
Aashi, hearing the commotion, rushed toward Yashvi. However, the sight of a stranger approaching sent Yashvi into a fearful retreat. Her lips quivered as tears welled up in her eyes, and she began to cry.
Agastya appeared instantly, crouching down in front of Yashvi with a concerned expression. "What happened, Aashi? Why is she crying?"
Aashi glanced at Agastya, her voice tinged with concern. "She's scared of meeting a stranger. Now, she's looking for her mother."
Turning his attention to Yashvi, Agastya spoke softly, "Yashvi..."
At the sound of his voice, Yashvi's tears began to subside. She looked up at Agastya, her eyes still glistening with sadness.
"Do you remember me, Yashvi? I'm your father's friend. I'll take care of you until your parents come back. This is my sister, Aashi. She'll be living with us too, so you don't have to be scared of her," Agastya reassured her gently.
Yashvi glanced hesitantly at Aashi before nodding slowly. She then threw her arms around Agastya, resting her head on his shoulder. Agastya smiled and wrapped his arm around her protectively.
Even as a stranger, Agastya wondered, "Why isn't she scared of me, Aashi?" He inquired through their mental link.
Aashi's response came quickly. "You're her mate. Perhaps your presence naturally soothes her. It's rare for a mate to find comfort at such a young age."
"Do you think this is a good sign?" Agastya asked, hopeful.
Aashi replied, "In a way, yes. But as she approaches puberty, she might start experiencing more than just comfort around you. That phase might be challenging for you."
Agastya closed the mental link and looked down at Yashvi with a warm smile. He could see Aashi was taken aback by his composure.
"Yashvi, will you go with Aashi and get ready? I'll prepare your favorite breakfast," Agastya said with a reassuring tone.
Yashvi nodded eagerly and took Aashi's hand, who led her to the washroom. Meanwhile, Agastya used his magic to whip up breakfast and milk for Yashvi in the blink of an eye.
When Aashi returned with Yashvi, they settled at the dining table. As Agastya served breakfast, he noticed Aashi seemed preoccupied. He excused himself and gestured for Aashi to follow him into the kitchen.
"Brother, Yashvi has a mark on her waist. I saw it while bathing her," Aashi said, her voice filled with concern.
"A mark? What kind of mark?" Agastya's tone was tense, as he worried about any implications for their bond.
Aashi explained, "It's a single wing—a left wing of an angel or..."
Agastya's mind raced with troubling thoughts. *A demon?* His expression darkened.
"Check on her, I'll be back in a moment," Agastya instructed, his voice strained with frustration.
He walked into the master bedroom, snapping his fingers as he entered. His clothes fell to the floor as he examined the mark on his waist, specifically the right wing.
"What the hell? Why do we have matching wings? How long do I have to wait for answers?" Agastya muttered, his frustration palpable.
As he pondered the mystery, the sound of tiny feet approaching brought a smile to his face. Quickly, his clothes reappeared on his body, and he took his place on the couch as Yashvi entered the room, running toward him.
"Agastya, when will my mamma and daddy come?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.
"I don't know, baby, but don't worry. I'm here for you. What would you like to do now? How about we play ball?" Agastya suggested, trying to lift her spirits.
"No, I want my cooking set. I'll cook for you. Daddy says I make the best tea," Yashvi said, her mood brightening.
Agastya chuckled and, with a wave of his hand, conjured Yashvi's cooking set before her. She beamed with delight and set up her play items on the floor. After a while, she handed a tiny cup to Agastya.
"Agastya, I made tea for you," she said proudly.
Agastya took the cup with a smile, pretending to sip the imaginary tea. He gave her a thumbs-up. As he watched her play, he couldn't help but marvel at the irony—he, the ruthless king of the vampire world, was now immersed in a child's game in the human world.
