***************

The trees swayed violently in the relentless wind, their rustling leaves adding an eerie rhythm to the new moon night. Howls and cries of unseen animals echoed through the darkness, sending shivers down the spines of the villagers. One by one, they retreated indoors, bolting their doors and windows against the unknown terror lurking outside. Deep within the forest, creatures fled in terror, scrambling to find shelter.

Suddenly, swirling shadows resembling a massive tornado swept across the forest. The only sound that pierced the night was the blood-curdling screams of animals caught in its path. Then, just as abruptly as it had appeared, the tornado vanished, leaving the night still and silent once more.

Surrounded by the dense forest lay the kingdom of BlackGore, a realm ruled by the most feared king in the vampire world—Agastya.

Agastya, the 2,000-year-old Vampire King, was a formidable figure. In human form, he was irresistibly handsome, his cold, calculated demeanor masking his lethal nature. He was merciless with his enemies, composed in his decisions, and cunning in his strategies. Female vampires coveted him, longing to be chosen as his mate, drawn to his unparalleled power and charm. Yet, to them, he was unattainable, a dream forever out of reach.

Despite mounting pressure to select a mate, Agastya remained resolute, waiting for the one destined for him—the one who would complete him.

The gates of the castle creaked open as a group of vampires emerged, dragging half-dead animals behind them. Their glowing red eyes gleamed with malevolent anticipation. They sneered at their prey, baring their fangs, eager to drain the last drops of life.

Rakshan, the second-in-command, shifted to his human form and surveyed the vampires.

"Everyone, move now. We must wait for the king to begin the ritual. Let's return to the palace," Rakshan ordered, his voice booming across the courtyard.

The vampires obediently shifted back to their human forms and followed Rakshan inside. As the guards swung the doors open, they filed in, anxiously awaiting the king's arrival.

A piercing scream echoed through the palace halls. Rakshan, shaking his head, hurried towards the king's chamber. The guards trembled in fear, but a single wave of Rakshan's hand sent them scattering.

He pushed open the door and was met with the sight of Agastya, towering in his massive, fearsome form. The king's eyes were bloodshot, his pupils glowing like flames, and his fangs dripped with blood. As Agastya turned to face him, Rakshan dropped to his knees, bowing deeply.

"Hail the king, my lord. My apologies for entering without permission," Rakshan's voice was steady, though terror clawed at his insides.

Agastya shifted back into human form, his fangs retracting. He waved a hand, signaling Rakshan to rise. Rakshan glanced at the lifeless body of a woman lying in a pool of blood, her heart burning in the fire beside her.

"Congratulations, Your Highness. She is the 500th woman you've killed so far," Rakshan remarked with dark humor, though his eyes betrayed his discomfort.

Agastya shot him a glare, then smirked. With a snap of his fingers, the woman's body disintegrated into ashes, vanishing into the air.

"Why can't these bitches keep their legs closed? Being a king doesn't mean I whore around. The only woman who will claim me and warm my bed will be my mate," Agastya growled.

Rakshan helped him into his coat. "And every time I walk in, I feel my balls in my throat. I'm not sure how long this secret will stay hidden with you shaking the palace every time a female enters your chamber."

"It's not my fault. I can't control myself when they try to take the place of my mate. This wouldn't happen if I could just find her. Why does the Moon Goddess punish me?" Agastya grumbled.

"You'll find her," Rakshan said reassuringly. "But for now, we should leave. It's time for the ritual."

Agastya nodded, and they left the chamber, heading to where the vampires awaited their feast. Twice a year, they fed on animals to stay sane. As Agastya strode out, every vampire dropped to their knees in reverence.

"Rise," Agastya commanded, his voice thunderous. The vampires stood immediately. Agastya pulled a deer toward him, sinking his fangs into its throat. Blood splattered across his face, and a guard placed a bowl of fire before him. Agastya poured the blood into the flames, and the fire surged, sending red smoke billowing into the air. The vampires cheered as Agastya inhaled deeply, a golden ring of light circling his body.

"Enjoy your feast," Agastya said, turning back to the palace.

Inside the dining hall, his brother Rana, sister Aashi, and the top warriors, enforcers, and chiefs stood at their places. Once Agastya took his seat at the head of the table, the others followed suit. Maids served animal blood serum to the king, while the others received pure animal blood followed by human food.

Halfway through their dinner, an evil laugh echoed through the hall. Agastya gritted his teeth, his fangs itching to tear out the intruder's throat. Harsha, his half-brother, stood before the king, his eyes gleaming with mischief.

"Harsha," Rakshan warned. "I hope you've learned from your past mistakes. Your mate sacrificed her life to bring you back, but remember—the coffin is still open, and the king might just throw you back into it."

Harsha chuckled. "Dear Rakshan, have you forgotten? It's been 2,000 years, and your king still hasn't found his mate. If he doesn't find her within the year, he'll lose all his power, and I will take the throne."

Agastya's fist clenched as he heard the taunt. His grip on the table tightened.

"In your dreams, Harsha," Rakshan snarled. "You don't have a mate now, so return to your place. You're not welcome in the palace."

Before Harsha could respond, Agastya tackled him, his hand gripping Harsha's throat. His fangs bared, eyes glowing red.

"Leave this place at once if you want to live," Agastya growled.

Harsha groaned and, with a swift movement, disappeared in vamp speed. Agastya stormed out of the dining hall, Rakshan, Aashi, and Rana following closely behind.

"I'll call the seer," Aashi said, sensing her brother's distress. "Maybe she has news this time."

Agastya nodded, and Aashi began her chants. Moments later, the seer appeared, bowing before the king.

"My lord, I bring news. It is time for you to meet your mate, but she isn't a vampire."

Agastya's eyes narrowed. "A werewolf?"

"No, my lord. She is human."

Everyone gasped, but Agastya remained expressionless.

"A prophecy will soon be revealed, placing your mate in grave danger. You must protect her until the time comes for her to take her place by your side. She is no ordinary human. Secrets will unfold in due time," the seer warned.

Agastya thanked the seer and dismissed

her. The seer bowed and vanished into thin air.

"Aashi, Rana, stay here. I'm leaving for the human world with Rakshan. If there's an emergency, mindlink me. We'll return before you know it," Agastya commanded.

Aashi smiled, genuinely happy for her brother. "I'm glad you'll finally find her, brother. I can't wait to meet your mate."

Rana nodded firmly. "I'll keep Harsha in line until you return."

Agastya trusted them and gestured for them to leave. Once alone with Rakshan, he gripped his friend's arm, and a swirling portal opened before them. They stepped through, landing in a bustling human city.

Disguised in their human forms, they wandered the streets, searching for the scent of Agastya's mate. Agastya's frustration grew as time passed, his vampire instincts threatening to overpower him. Then, the sound of a child's cry caught their attention.

They followed the sound and discovered a crashed motorcycle, a man and woman lying in a pool of blood nearby. A little girl, no older than five, stood beside them, sobbing. Rakshan instinctively sniffed the air, then quickly shut down his senses, knowing that tasting human blood could be fatal.

Rakshan's thoughts were interrupted when he noticed a change in Agastya's demeanor. For the first time in 1,500 years, Rakshan saw an emotion flicker across his usually stoic friend's face.

Agastya inhaled deeply, his eyes glowing red with a yellow ring. "Mate," he whispered.

He approached the girl slowly, crouching beside her. As soon as he touched her head, sparks flew through his body, making him stagger back. The little girl stopped crying, staring up at him with electric blue eyes.

Rakshan watched in stunned silence as Agastya touched her again, this time more gently. The girl smiled, and for the first time in 2,000 years, Agastya felt peace. His heart, hardened by centuries of pain and loss, softened.

"Mate," Agastya whispered again, the realization settling over him. His search was finally over.
