Chapter 6: Visions Of The Past

~(Y/N)'s POV~

After that Karma showed me the rest of the castle. We were walking up some stairs to one of the taller spirals. "Where are we going a*shole?" I questioned. He snorted a little. "I'll tell you if you call me Karma more often." He said. I scoffed a little and shut my mouth. He shot a look over his shoulder at me. "Are you that determined to call me Karma as little as possible?" He questioned. I smirked. "Maybe I am. Who's to say?" I questioned with a shrug. He turned back around, grumbling under his breath. "No f*cking duh. You deliberately choose AB just to f*ck with me after all." He grumbled. "Now, now. Don't jump to conclusions. I actually do prefer AB out of all the blood types. It's more...unique." I said. I could've sworn his face grew red again and I chuckled a little. We continued walking in silence. We entered a room that had a lovely view of the moon out the giant window. There were plenty of book shelves lining the walls and a small table with a couch behind it. There was a grand piano in the center of the room, no dust to be seen on the pure white keys. Karma seemed to relax the moment we stepped foot in the room. And I could honestly see why. It was pretty relaxing with the dark walls and carpet flooring. "This is my favorite room in all the castle. My personal study. Secluded away from everyone else, nice and quiet." He said. My eyes were glued to the piano. "Do you play?" I asked. He shot me a small smile. "I could never wrap my head around playing the piano. But I do play guitar and violin." He said. Karma then tilted his head to the side. "Why? Do you play?" He asked. My eyes softened a little. "I...I don't remember." I said. I walked over to the piano brushing my hand across the keys softly. "I think...I can remember Irina was playing one time when I was really young. And....I believe I asked her to teach me, but...." I squinted a little, trying to focus. "But when she started telling me what to do, I was able to play right away. As if I had already known for a long time." I explained. He slapped my back a little in a playful manor. "That means you can play ding dong." He said. I snickered a little, but still felt confused. Either way I sat down and let my hands glide over the keys. I pressed down on one key, letting the sound echo around the room. It was as if I entered a trance. I started playing a slow tune before that tune, turned into a melody, and that melody, into a song. It started out slow and relaxing, and memories started surfacing from the back of my mind. I stopped immediately trying to suppress those memories before I felt a hand on my shoulder. I jumped a little before realizing it was just a*shole the vampire. He gave me a soft look. "Quit suppressing them. Let the memories flow. You'll feel better after." He said. I took another deep breath before continuing to play.

The song started slow, calm. With a few spikes here and there.

~Flashback~

I was sitting next to my father as he played the piano. He began to instruct me, guiding my hands along the piano keys as he explained how to play a song. My mother was sitting in the corner, reading silently to herself as he taught me how to play. A roaring fireplace warming the small room as a storm raged outside. It was a quiet evening. Full of a deep male voice instructing his little girl on how to do something. I was eager to learn. One day going to play a song for my prince charming. My father had laughed when I told him this. But decided to teach me anyways. I was a weird kid.

My mother was reading aloud to me, rocking back and forth in her chair as I sat on her lap. Slowly letting her voice guide me to sleep. I eventually passed out, and she closed the book. Still holding me close.

I was being called names by a few kids at my local school. My father had come to pick me up that day and overheard the teasing. Walking me home, he asked if that happened often. I told him that it was almost daily. But that I didn't mind. I gave him a brave and proud smile. 'I'm a (L/N)! And I'm proud of it! Nothing they say can bother me! I'm not a demon! And neither is mom!' He smiled back. Ruffling my hair before picking me up and setting my on his shoulders. Telling me 'that's my girl'.

I got into a guard, before throwing a punch at the dummy. My mother corrected my form, then told me to do it again. This time when I hit the dummy it spun around. I let out a squeak of surprise and fell back on my butt. My father laughed, helping me up before showing me how to put someone in a hold, using my mother as the dummy. She wasn't having it, and ended up throwing him over her shoulder. They both started laughing and I laughed too. My father got up and my mother kissed his cheek. I gagged a little as they gazed at eachother in a loving manor. I continued practicing while they were exchanging quiet words.

My father helped steady my arm before reminding me to never put my finger on the trigger unless I intended to fire. He reminded me to check if my safety was off. Then helped me aim. He told me to fire and I did. I didn't hit the center of the target, but I was close. My father smiled, ruffling my hair before returning to my mother's side. The gun I was using was a fake wooden toy that fired fake wooden bullets. My father told me to try it by myself. I followed the steps my father had showed me before aiming at the target. My eyes narrowed and I pulled the trigger without hesitation. Hitting dead center. My father and mother gave me looks of shock before smiling brightly at me.

My mother was helping me learn to write and read. First teaching me how to read my own name, then write it. She taught me but first having me read a sentence, then write it. Or have me write something down, then read it. It was an effective method. Seeing as how later I was one of the only girls in my school that knew how to write, and I was the quickest reader in the entire school. But those moments where she was teaching me or helping with my homework in the kitchen while my father was preparing food, always were some of my favorites.

~End Flashback~

Then the song started becoming a little faster, but maintaining a slightly sorrowful tone.

~Flashback~

I was pushed to the ground by a bully. She was laughing. Calling me a monster. Another one, a boy this time, pulled out some kind of sharp object and cut my arm. Black blood spilled from the wound and the other kids that had gathered around started pointing and whispering. My eyes darted around as tears fell from them. I was terrified, but who wouldn't be? Out of instinct and reflex I swung a punch at the boy, nailing him in the cheek and causing him to lose a tooth. He dropped me in the mud and I scrambled up and started running. Tears falling faster and faster. I eventually ran to the town fountain before getting lost. A few people that were working at the time spotted me but did nothing. Though a few eyed my still bleeding arm with wariness.

My mother sat me down and said that we needed to have a talk. She told me that because of my bullying issue, and because the towns people didn't like us, that we were going to move. Since I didn't have any friends, my only concern was what kind of house we were going to live in. She smiled, saying that we were going to live in a small, cozy house. Just like the one we were already living in. I was perfectly fine with that. But then my father walked in, a look of horror on his face. And he told my mother something. I didn't quite understand it as a four or five year old. But those words ended up haunting me. 'We have to go during the Scarlet Night.'

~Flashback End~

The song grew from quick and sorrowful to slow. But not calm like before. Menacing. Ominous. Disturbing.

~Flashback~

The blood red moonlight shun through the flaps of my family's wagon. My mother was riding in the back with me. Playing, and trying to make sure I stay awake. My father was driving. I yawned, extremely tired. My mother said we were almost there. And that I just needed to stay awake a little longer. She had given me a reassuring smile when all of a sudden, the wagon stopped. My father stuck his head in telling my mother something that I didn't understand fully. She scooped me up with a panicked look on her face before opening one of the chests and carefully placing me inside. She picked up one of the silver guns inside the chest and loaded it before giving me a smile, only this one was more worried trying to look brave. She told me to stay here and to be quiet. She then closed the chest. Leaving me in complete darkness. It was quiet for a long time. Until I heard gunshots, screaming, and laughter. I started crying, but covered my mouth in fear of making too much noise. Silence. I heard the sound of footsteps but I didn't move. Tears streamed from my eyes, and I knew I was probably shaking. I was probably panicking. But suddenly my world spun. Everything was tossed around and pretty soon I came tumbling out of the chest. I grunted a little, sitting up. I saw forest for miles around. I saw it all cast in blood red moonlight. And I saw a vampire, tearing apart my family's wagon. But what finally got me to realize what was happening, was seeing my own parents. Dead on the ground. Blood all around them. Black from my mother. And red from my father. I felt like I was going to be sick. With shaky hands I grabbed a bloody Vampire Hunter gun and started running. I didn't get far, constantly running and tripping, falling every few steps. ......The vampire caught up with me.

~Flashback End~

The music stopped as I shook my head slightly. Karma, who was sitting next to me as I played was giving me a concerned look. "D-did you just leave me a cliffhanger?" He asked. I didn't hear him. Er. I did. But I didn't listen. "After that....I-I shot her. I had a gun in my hand. Instincts. I shot her." I muttered. Karma gently rested a hand on my shoulder. "(Y/N)?" He said in a questioning tone. My hands started shaking as I only saw them stained with red. "I-I think I'm gonna be sick." I mumbled. Flashes of 'murderer' and 'monster' appeared in my head. Blood. So much blood. I shook my head violently, trying to shake the images away. "(Y/N), what's wrong?" Karma asked frantically, shaking me a little. "B-blood. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I don't mean to hurt others. I'm sorry." I apologized over, and over. Until finally everything went blank. It was like a heavy fog settled over my mind. My body froze up. No longer under my control. "I want you to take a deep breath through your nose, hold it for four seconds, then breathe out through your mouth. Repeat this process, and calm down." Karma said in a low commanding voice. I followed his instructions with no control over my actions until my heart rate slowed back to normal. The fog in my mind lifted and I had control over my body again. The slow controlled breaths turned into gasping for a second as I recovered. I shot a look at Karma and he flinched back a little. Red eyes fading back into bright gold. "What the holy hell/flying f*ck!?" I yelled. He scratched the back of his neck avoiding any and all forms of eye contact. "Sorry! Um...y-you were panicking! I really need to stop doing that...." Karma muttered. "Explanation, now a*shole!" I spat. "It's one of my powers!" He blurted. I crossed my arms, and raised an eyebrow. "Another one?" I asked. He nodded slowly. "I-I'm sorry. I really hate using that on people like that. I hate having to use it in general. Unless it's for a prank." Karma said quickly. Now I was confused. What the hell, why is he so nervous all of a sudden? This isn't like him. I thought. "I....really don't like having to force someone to follow my orders completely against their will. Er. I guess that's not entirely true. I...hate having full control over someone without them being able to do a thing about it. That's it. The magic I just used...it's called Brainwashing. A special form of mental magic that I learned from a friend in a different kingdom. Basically if you speak to me, answering a question verbally or otherwise, I can take over your mind and make you do what I want. And you can't do a single thing about it. Hence why I hate using it. Taking away someone's free will with just a single thought is....absolutely terrifying. Which is why I rarely even use it to begin with. Unless it's for a prank or I absolutely have to. What's worse is that I can even erase the entire experience from the victim's memory." Karma explained. The Vampire King seemed to shrink before my gaze. Looking really nervous and embarrassed. "That's....really cool! Can it work on humans and vampires?" I asked with curiosity. The look he gave me, was one of pure confusion.

"You....aren't scared? Or mad?" He asked. "Oh no I'm absolutely livid. But I understand that you were just trying to help and you were just worried. You didn't see any other way to get me to calm down. And I can respect the quick thinking. I'm not scared because you seem to be telling the truth about not using that power often. And about not liking having to use it. You seemed legit sorry about using it on me. So I forgive you." I responded calmly. He met my eyes again with a hopeful look before breaking out into a goofy grin. Before I knew what had happened he had hugged me, tightly. "ACK! KARMA LET GO OF ME! I'M STILL P*SSED!" I shouted. "You're the best (Y/N)! And hey! You called me Karma again!" He responded cheerfully. "ARE YOU COUNTING!?" I shouted. "Noooooooo." "A*SHOLE THE VAMPIRE!" After a little scuffling we ended up falling off the bench in front of the piano and now I have a Vampire King cuddling me on the ground. I just gave up. But a small smile had formed on my face. It felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Like darkness had been cleared from my mind. "Hey (Y/N). Question." Karma said out of the blue. I hummed a little, letting him know I was listening. "Who was the vampire you shot? What did they look like? I'm not mad. I just want to know." Karma said. I hummed a little, recalling the memory. "She was a blue haired vamp. Her her was short. A really dark shade of blue it almost looked black. She looked to be an adult in her early thirties, mid forties. But....yeah. Vampire. I'm not one to assume. She also had this....aura about her that set off all the tiny red flags in my head. It was....overbearing. Totally oppressive. There was also this....look in her eyes that made me really scared. Especially when she kept trying to touch my hair. It was weird!" I explained before shivering. "Y'know what? Scratch the weird. It was borderline terrifying." I corrected. Karma was silent for a minute before he finally let get of me and sat up. He started laughing, very violently. "(Y/N)! (Y/N)! Good Gods I love you right now!" He said, helping me to my feet. "Wut?" I questioned in confusion. Karma had a bright smile on his face as he laughed and twirled me around, causing me even more confusion. "What is up with you today?" I questioned. "You killed her right? She turned to ash?" He asked. I nodded. "I'm pretty sure shooting a vampire through the head with a Vampire Hunter bullet equals dead." I grumbled. Karma's expression grew even more joyous, if that was even possible. Eventually his smile became a little contagious. "What are you so happy about?" I questioned with a small chuckle at his goofy expression. "She's dead! She's actually dead! And to think I was worried about her coming back! Oh I should've known she'd gotten killed! You killed her? Thank you! You have no idea how happy this is gonna make some vamps." Karma said. There was a knock on the door to the study and Karma let me go to answer it. Grin never leaving his features. At the door there was a strawberry blond male. Looking about sixteen but y'know....vampire. I don't assume.

"Karma, what is going on? Why'd you summon me like that?" The male asked. "She's dead! Asano, Mrs. Shiota is dead!" Karma said excitedly. Asano's eyes widened in surprise before he broke out into a grin. "Really? How do you know? Is she really dead?" He questioned. "I just got confirmation from the person who killed her! We were right dude! She got killed on the Scarlet Night all those years ago!" Karma responded. Asano shot a look at me as I titled my head to the side. "Karma, is that the human you turned? Is she the one who killed her?" He asked. "Yes and yes. Asano this is (Y/N). (Y/N) this is Gakushu Asano." Karma introduced. Asano stepped inside the room bowing to me slightly. "Pleasure to meet you." He said. I nodded a little, bowing to him as well. "The pleasure is mine." I said. Asano smirked, elbowing Karma. "She actually has manors. Unlike some red headed vamps I know." He said. Karma elbowed him back with a glare. "This is the a*shole prince that turned me and my friend into vampires. Until I stole the throne from his father. Now he has to answer to me." Karma said with a smirk of his own. Asano rubbed his arm with a chuckle. "Ow." He muttered, wincing a little. I nodded a little before yawning. Karma sweat dropped a little. "I swear if I didn't already know you were Wrath I'd assume you were Sloth." He grumbled. I walked over with a small glare and smacked him on the head. "Ow!" He whined. "You are such a child. I've had a long day and I was under a lot of stress just now. Hello? Panic attack." I grumbled. He rubbed his head with a small hiss and I dropped eye contact. "Thanks for helping with that by the way." I muttered under my breath. "Eh? What was that?" Karma asked. "Nothing! It was nothing!" I shot back. Asano snickered a little and Karma smirked. "By the way, before I forget...." I trailed off before pointing at Karma with another glare. He held up his hands in mock surrender. "You better explain more about the magic deal. Oh, and besides Brainwashing, are there any other secret hidden powers I should know about? Memory Eraser? Charm Spells? Can you cast spells? Like do you actually have a Grimore? If so, I'm really hoping you have good control over that d*mn book!" I hissed. He started sweating nervously. "I swear to you that I cannot cast spells from a book. I can learn certain magic. But no spells. Besides the other powers I've mentioned earlier, plus the Brainwashing, I also have teleportation, a little ice magic and electricity magic, did I mention the shape shifting? I think mentioned that. Yeah I've already mentioned it. Um....Oh! Summoning! I can summon a familiar!" Karma said frantically. "Don't forget karma manipulation." Asano chimed in. "THAT TOO!" Karma added. I tilted my head in confusion. "What's that?" I asked. "He can control someone's karma. Even his own. He can give someone bad karma leading to all kinds of unfortunate events. Or good karma, leading to lots of luck and good fortune." Asano explained. I gave the red head a long look. "I saw it in a book once. It matched my name. I had too." He said. "He can't control it very well. Took him four years to learn it though." Asano added with a snicker. Karma raised an eyebrow at Asano before taking a step to the side. He stuck his arm out, backing me up as well as a washing basin fell on Asano's head before hitting a red button on the wall as a trap door opened under Asano's feet. He fell in with a shout and Karma laughed a little. "Not good control my a*s." He muttered. He then gave me a smile. "Let's get you back to your room so you can rest. The sun will be up any minute now." He said. He grabbed my wrist before helping me over the trap door and down the spiral we went.

"Is he gonna be alright?" "Probably." "That isn't reassuring Karma..." "Heeeeeeey-." "Say what I think you're going to say and I'm kicking you into that trap door."
