Chapter 4: A Chat With The Vampire King

~(Y/N)'s POV~

I felt moonlight on my face as soft humming filled my ears. My mind drifted in the calm melody and soothing light. There was a soft knock and the humming stopped. Quiet words were exchanged and then silence after the closing of a door. I opened my eyes and sat up with a yawn, stretching. I looked around the room, tilting my head in confusion. The room had red walls and one large window by the bed. There were two doors, one I assumed led to the hallway and the other probably a bathroom. I noticed other things in the room, such as a TV, a dresser, what looked to be a closet, a desk, a bookshelf, a dart board on the wall, and a gaming console by the TV. Now I was even more confused. Why in the holy hell did a vampire have a TV and a gaming console? Barely anyone had those in my town so why the f*ck did a vampire have them!? I sighed a little and shook my head. "It's Karma, the hell else would I expect?" I questioned to myself. I got up, albeit a little shaky and looked outside the window. I clicked my tongue in slight annoyance. "I would wake up in the middle of the night wouldn't I?" I questioned. I looked over at the bookshelf before shooting a look across the room. "No red headed vampires in sight." I mumbled. I walked over to the shelf and scanned the titles. I finally found a title I was familiar with and smiled fondly. The Thickety. I thought, plucking the first book off the shelf. I sat down by the window allowing the moonlight to illuminate the cover as I cracked open the book to page one. I had always loved this story because I could relate to the main character in a few ways. Kara was long under constant suspicion of being a witch because her mother was a witch. When really she wasn't a witch, per say. She was a wexari. A being that didn't need a grimore to cast spells. I guess she was my favorite because she was misunderstood with barely any friends. And I myself had been accused of being a demon because of the black blood me and my mother shared. It was one of the reasons me and my family had to move away from that place and go somewhere that didn't know us. I shook my head trying to suppress those memories again, causing me to have a headache. I sighed, knowing that reading peacefully wasn't going to happen with a headache. I closed the book and looked out the window at the moon. I considered sleep for a minute. I dismissed the idea, already wide awake. "Suppressing memories like that only makes it worse y'know." Karma said, leaning on the wall next to the window where I was sitting. I ignored him, paying no mind to his sudden presence. He sighed a little. "How are you feeling?" He asked. "A little better I guess. I mean, as better as I can be knowing that I killed a girl." I responded. "You don't seem that bothered by it." Karma pointed out. "That's the problem." I growled. "Ah. That's it huh? Let me explain. We vampires can't feel guilt for eating. After all, we need to do that to survive and avoid insanity. We can feel bad for the people that are now without a family member. We can feel sad for the families we've torn apart. But not for eating." Karma explained. "Problem is I don't feel a shred of guilt at all. Maybe a little sad, because I knew Ayame's own family didn't even treat her right. People only act like that because they lack attention from people close to them. That makes me upset, a little guilty. But as for actually killing her. No. In fact I feel almost p*ssed knowing how not many will miss her." I mumbled, staring at my hand for a minute. "I see. You feel anger towards the actual human race." Karma said. I shot him a small glare before sighing and returning my gaze outside the window. "Don't you have things to be doing Mr. Vampire King?" I questioned. He sat across from me, turning his gaze to the moon as well. "Not at this time of night when most are out hunting. Which reminds me, how much of that do you remember? The thing with that Ayame girl I mean." Karma said. I sighed a little, pulling my knees to my chest. "I can remember her words, I can remember her fear.....I can remember her blood...." I trailed off for a minute closing my eyes. "I remember anger. Intense anger. I remember the feeling of her skull under my hand when I slammed her into the wall. I also remember breaking both her arms." I continued. I opened my eyes again, both of them the normal shade of (E/C). "But other than that, not much. The things leading up to it, or after it are fuzzy and unfocused." I mumbled. I buried my head in my arms for a minute. I heard Karma hum a little to himself. "In that case I might need to explain this again. When someone turns into a vampire they start to take on the traits of one of the seven deadly sins. Mine is the sin of Pride. Judging from what happened between you and Ayame I'd assume you have the sin of Wrath." He explained. I nodded slightly, looking back out the window. Silence dragged for a little. "Are you sure you feel okay?" Karma questioned in a legit concerned tone.

I flinched a little, eyes widening ever so slightly. Is he....is he actually concerned? I shook my head a little and hardened my gaze. "Sorry. Not used to people actually asking how I feel. Nor asking for my opinion. But I feel okay. Just....I guess confused is the right word." I said. "Confused how?" Karma questioned. I shot him a small glare. "Confused as to why you turned me into a vampire. Confused as to why you tolerate the f*cking sass. I guess you could say I'm confused as to why the f*ck you want me around." I growled. Karma gave me a look, before shaking his head with a small smile. "Potential (Y/N). Simple as that. You're highly intelligent, at least when compared to most humans around your age. And you're strong too. Not just anyone can take a direct punch from the king of vampires, get flung into a tree, and stand right back up while laughing. Nor do they even have the courage to stand up to a vampire, let alone their king. Now imagine what would happen if you paired all the skills listed with the strength, speed, lifespan, and powers of a vampire." Karma leaned on his hand a little, tilting his head and blinking at me with a smirk. "I knew from the moment you were able to stand up that you'd make a good vampire. Which further solidified when you solved my labyrinth. Oh, and for the record, it's not tolerate (Y/N). I actually find your sass pleasant." He rolled his eyes slightly. "Everything gets bland here with all the 'yes sir's, 'sire's, and of course the classic 'your highness'. Meanwhile you over here, don't give a s*it and call me 'Karma', 'Crimson', 'D*mn vampire', and of course 'a*shole' which seems to be your favorite. If you ask me it's a nice change. Hence why I don't insist on you now calling me by any form of formality. I've never liked formality used with me but everyone in the castle does it anyways because of my 'high status'." Karma said using air quotes. He rolled his eyes again this time with a frown. "You don't give two flying f*cks about where I stand in the rankings, another testament to your courage. That's why I like having you around. Because hey, I at least want one person to treat me as an equal, not as a higher up." He said. I raised an eyebrow. He smiled a little. "Yeah. I know how weird it sounds. What's even weirder is that typically I prefer to be on my own, human or vampire, I'm very anti-social. As you can probably tell from the contents of this room, I entertain myself instead of joining in most of the events the others in the castle host. But it's not like that when I'm around you. I guess you make me feel somewhat normal. As normal as a vampire can be I guess." He said with a shrug. I couldn't help but chuckle at that and smile a little. "Shocking. Really it is. I don't see how I could make anyone feel normal. Or be more social. Maybe because I'm an anti-social weirdo too." I said. Karma pouted a little. "I am not an anti-social weirdo." He said. "Suuuure." I said with an eye roll, causing him to snicker.

Karma shot a look at the book in my hands and smiled a little. "Ah. The Thickety. Good choice." He said. "You've read it before?" I questioned. He nodded. "One of my favorites actually. I love the story and the plot. I f*cking hate Grace though." He growled. I laughed. "Who doesn't hate Grace Stone? She's a total b*tch!" I said. "A great villain for this story. But a b*tch none the less." Karma agreed while nodding. "Oh! I love all the different creatures Kara can call on! And when she basically created her own creature too! Rygoth can fight me! Kara is a much better wexari!" I exclaimed. Karma nodded excitedly. "Have you read the final book yet?" He questioned. I shook my head. "Unfortunately not." I said. "D*mn! I want to know what happens but I can't get my hands on a copy!" He cursed, snapping his fingers. "Gah! I heard it's called 'The Last Spell'. What the f*ck happens!? I need to know!" I shouted. Karma looked deep in thought. "Let's see, they're searching for the pieces of the princess's grimore. The book is called 'The Last Spell'. And the f*ck happened to the seer girl!? Why'd she turn traitor!?" He asked, gesturing in front of him as if to prove point. "You can't remember her name either huh?" I questioned while sweat dropping. "It starts with an S right?" Karma questioned. "I think so?" I said in a questioning tone. "It's been a while since I've read the books." I added, looking at the book in my hands. Karma chuckled a little bit and I gave him a look. "What's so funny?" I questioned. "That's the first time I've been able to rant about these books to someone who actually understands what the f*ck I'm going on about." He said while laughing. I cracked a small smile. "Huh. Same for me now that I think about it." I said. Karma sighed a little with a shake of his head. "Anyways. We're off topic. I needed to ask you something." He said. I titled my head a little and gave him a look. "Okay. Shoot." I responded. "Do you feel hungry at all?" He questioned. I flinched a little and dropped eye contact, fiddling with the edges of the Thickety's pages.

"Oh um....I guess a little...." I mumbled. Karma nodded slightly. "On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate your hunger right now?" He asked. "Compared to yesterday's or a normal human's?" I countered. He hummed a little. "Both?" He answered in a questioning tone. I sighed a little. "I guess....a 2 or 3. Depending on what you're comparing it too." I responded. Karma nodded. "Alright. I'll be right back." He said. He got up and left the room, a few minutes later returning with a bottle and two wine glasses. He sat back down before setting the wine glasses down and pouring the red liquid from the bottle into them. I instantly recognized blood. Once the glasses were full he set the bottle down and picked up one of the glasses. He handed it over to me. "I'd recommend feeding yourself at the very least once a day. Don't try and starve yourself unless you want to have no control over yourself and turn into the eighth sin. I'd also recommend trying the different blood types to distinguish which one is your favorite and which ones you'd prefer to not have. Everyone has a preference." Karma explained. I stared at the glass in my hand for a minute, unsure. I closed my eyes and sighed out shakily. "Hey, it's alright if you need a minute. The first few times are always the hardest." Karma said in a slightly patient tone. I gave him a look of surprise before returning my gaze to the blood. C'mon (Y/N). Just like when swimming. To get used to the water you just have to dive in head first. I thought. I raised the glass to my lips and drank a little while Karma watched with curious and interested eyes. I stopped for a minute, glaring at him. "What are you looking at?" I questioned, lowering the glass. He smirked a little. "The red eyes suit you. It gives you a more menacing vibe. Or maybe I just like it knowing that I'm the one who caused it." He responded. I just glared at him harder and he snickered. "You're blushing.~" He teased. I growled at him. "You are really childish for a vampire king." I hissed. Karma laughed. "Nah. I just like messing with you. Your reactions are adorable." He said. I looked away from him, probably blushing really badly. "Shut up a*shole." I growled. I ended up staring at the glass again before taking another sip. D*mnit. Why does this taste good? I thought. I continued drinking for a little before setting the empty glass down. "Notice anything different about this blood?" Karma questioned. "It didn't taste like Ayame's." I said. He nodded. "Right. That's because Ayame had Blood Type B. This here is Blood Type O. Eventually as you get more used to this you'll start being able to recognize different blood types by smell. To humans, all blood smells the same. Metallic and strong. Vampires however, can scent the small differences between blood types. Another reason I want you to find out which is your favorite. Its the easiest to scent your favorite type of blood. My favorites are Types O and A. Specifically O." Karma explained. Now I'm curious about something... I thought. "And that would be?" Karma asked. I jumped a little before facepalmed. "Right. Keep forgetting you can read minds." I grumbled. "Well, what is it?" He questioned. "Don't worry about it. It's not important." I said, waving a hand dismissively. He gave me a look but shrugged it off. "Eh. Whatever. But let me ask ya' something." Karma said. "While we're on the topic of blood types, what's yours? Or does black blood have it's on specific type?" He questioned. I opened my mouth a little before closing it. I dropped eye contact. "I honestly don't know. I never asked my mom about it. I never really got curious about my own blood." I responded. Karma hummed a little to himself. "Let me see your hand." He said. I gave him a look. "Oh hell no." I growled. "(Y/N) trust me. I'm not going to do anything bad." He said while sweat dropping. I grumbled something under my breath before holding out my hand to him. He pulled a small pin out of no where and pricked my finger. It didn't hurt at all surprisingly. A little bead of black blood appeared and he sniffed at it a little. "Hm. Doesn't smell like any blood type I know. Congrats. I guess black blood has its own specific type." He said. I pulled my hand away from him and he chuckled a little. "Um. (Y/N). You have a little blood on the corner of your mouth." He said. I growled a little. "Where's the bathroom?" I questioned. He pointed to one of the doors and I got up sprinting over.

~Karma's POV~

The moment (Y/N) closed the door behind her I snapped my fingers poofing up a pillow and buried my face. S*IT! S*IT! S*IT! WHYYYYYYY!? WHY DOES HER BLOOD SMELL SWEET!? DOES SHE LIVE OFF SUGAR OR SOMETHING!? AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I screamed mentally. "Um...Crimson you alright there?" I jumped throwing the pillow in the air. "Yep fine! Totally fine! Nothing wrong here!" I shouted in a panic. The pillow bounced off my head onto the floor and (Y/N) started laughing. Oh my God he's as red as a strawberry! She thought. "Hey! HEY! Don't you start that bulls*it!" I shouted. She laughed a little more before sitting back down across from me like before. I cleared my throat and calmed myself. "Alright then. Back on topic. Something else I wanted to discus with you is powers." I stated. She tilted her head a little giving me a look of confusion. "Each vampire has a specific set of powers, besides the normal strength, speed, etc. etc. The older you get the more powers you gain. But each vampire, when starting out, has at least one main type of magic power. For example." I held out my hand and the blood red flames roared to life. "When I first got turned, my main magic was fire. One of the more difficult of the four main elements to master. But because of my age, and rank as Vampire King, I was able to get plenty of other powers too." I explained. (Y/N) raised an eyebrow. "Such as?" She questioned. I smirked a little. "Shape shifting, levitation, poofing things out of no where, mind reading, and a few other things. I can also walk around during daytime for a short amount of time without getting burned. Only for a little while though. Not enough to run to town quickly even with super speed." I listed. She nodded a little bit, her eyes and the slight spark from her mind telling me that she was slightly impressed. "Now your powers will take some time to form. I'm telling you this right now so that you can be prepared when weird things start happening around you. That probably means your powers are coming into effect. So tell me if something weird happens. Whether things start levitating around you, other vampires go blank minded, shadows start bending towards you, candles go out or grow in size, anything at all." I stated, sipping at my own cup of blood. (Y/N) nodded again. "Okay. I'm following. But how long does it usually take before powers start forming?" She asked. I hummed a little, setting my cup down and crossing my arms. "Well that typically depends on the vampire that turned you and what powers your getting. The more powerful the magic, the longer it'll take. But the higher rank the vampire, the quicker it should be. Since it was me who turned you I'd say give it a week if your powers are basic, things like enhanced intelligence, basic physical transformations, or the ability to cast spells from a grimore. However if your powers are elemental based, or something strong like brainwashing and/or mind bending, it could take a few months, year at most. Time varies with person. Once again, it's because of my age and my rank that I have a wide variety of powerful magic to call on. But I was turned by a Vampire Prince, so my fire magic came to me two months after. While the normal time for element magic by a normal vampire was almost a year. My friend was turned by the same Prince and he gained....let's call it a paralyzing touch not three weeks afterward. Itona, the silver haired vamp you'll start seeing more and more as time progresses has basic creation magic. He can make anything so long as he has the materials. He got turned by a guard and it took him five weeks." I explained. "But a king is higher in ranks than a prince." (Y/N) mumbled to herself. "So it shouldn't take that long unless you're getting some really powerful magic." I finished for her. She nodded. "Guess I just have to bite my tongue and bide my time." She said. I tilted my head to the side a little. "Are you wearing a warning sign?" I questioned. She gave me a look of shock. "Wait til the world is mine." She responded. I smirked a little. "Visions I vandalize." I said. "Cold in my kingdom size." She responded. "Fell for these ocean eyes." I continued. "You should see me in a crown." We both said in unison while pointing at eachother. "So not only do you know the Thickety series, but you also listen to 'You Should See Me In A Crown'?" (Y/N) questioned. I nodded. "I love that song. And you're forgetting I was once human too." I said. She hummed a little. "Point taken. But still. It's a little shocking." She said. I nodded. "Agreed. I wasn't expecting that. Then again you did answer the quotes correctly so, maybe I should make references more often. See which ones you pick up on." I said while smirking. "Is that a challenge?" (Y/N) questioned. "Perhaps." I responded. We both smirked at eachother before she yawned a little. "Geez you get tired fast." I mumbled. She glared at me a little and I held up my hands in mock surrender.

I looked outside the window. "The night is waning. It'll be morning soon. Go ahead and get some rest. I'll take you around the castle to get you familiar with it tomorrow." I said. With that I got up and left the room.
