Heritage of the Doomed

The chamber in the dungeons where they keep her are barely lit and add to the uncomfortable atmosphere. My chair got placed far away from the cell, but when she comes closer to the bars I can only see a beautiful woman with cold eyes and a radiant charm. The brown locks cascading over her shoulder.

"You are the chosen one to capture the truth?", an angelic voice soft as velveteen.

"Indeed, Milady. The accusations are quite a few, but you got mainly caught because of your last deed. Do you want to tell me what happened?", I start and she smiles.

"It was a trap, you know?", she refers to the two dead men in her bedroom.

"Of whom?"

"This, my dear is the question. I have a few people in mind."

"Won't you tell me some of those? I'm pretty sure the public would like to read more about it."

"I don't care about the public. I got hunted for too long, but I can tell you this: Every time I killed it was for surviving. Sure, I love the blood, but I wouldn't need to kill for it - or do you think I only drink when you find a corpse?", she beams.

"So you say, that you are the real victim?" She looks at me for a moment but then bursts out in laughter.

"I never was a victim. My mother taught me well how to not become one. I got raised in a time where vampires still had to hide."

"You were born as a vampire?", surprised but she shakes her head.

"Nobody is born as a vampire. It was hard in the 19th century, but I was honored to be adopted by two vampires after the death of my siblings.", her features soften and a certain sadness can be seen on her face. I give her a few moments but realize she won't tell me more.

"So, you've been an orphan?", I try to find out more about her past.

"Yes and no. It is complicated. My sister was like a mother to me, before she got murdered. I guess everybody needs someone to hate."

"I'm sorry to hear, but that's a pretty dark thought."

"My father used to say that ..."

"Was... or is... your father important to you?", I ask curiously.

"Of course, he turned me. If you think I'm a monster you don't know how hell looks like and he has seen it all. This shapes a mind in a way you can't imagine. Do your research and come back before I manage to get out of here and I tell you more. They used to call him Ethan, the butcher.", she grins smugly.

"You think you can escape all this?", gesturing around me.

"I always do. I have a demon who is watching over me."

"Do you tell me you are not working alone?", I asked alarmed.

"I tell you, that there is a reason why I'm here." A wicked grin on her face.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Thanks for reading my second entry for the #flashfangfiction Contest @WattVampires. This was a real challenge to find me and my style in the prompt. It is the first piece without a certain timestamp.

Let me know what you think! :) I'm now looking forward to finally also read the others *grin
