Elijah and the Widow
I stood within my kitchen looking out
At trees with fruit that teased me bountiful.
The coming month, and day, I thought about
Tomorrow, and the years ahead that pull.
My mind was wandering to where I'd hide
From what I feared, and even from my vows.
I dreamt of how I dreamed I'd feel inside,
Of years to come, of fat and leaner cows.
The pangs of hunger pricked my soul to be
Robust, to hold my ground at that window.
And wanting for provisions, Lord bade me
Recall Elijah's time with the widow.
As prayer coursed through my soul, as rushes blood
The answers from my Lord came as a flood.
