Headmaster POV
The headmaster was startled awake by a distant rumble. It had been a while that he succumbed to sleep, but he couldn't help it. Although he wanted to remain awake and vigilant, his body disagreed. After two weeks of sleeplessness, it was time for his body to give up and on his desk he had fallen asleep.
Life had a way of twisting its branches that no matter how far you climbed or how much you mastered the tree, you could fall hard, back to the ground. And that was exactly what had happened.
The headmaster had been so sure, that there wasn't a single portal remaining that could transport any demon, in or out of Valhalla. He was certain because he had ordered the destruction himself. But as he raced to the great door of Valhalla academy, he could see the fear in the warrior's eyes and he could hear the whispers.
"What type of demon is that?" He heard one of the fire benders whisper.
"I have no idea." Her friend had responded.
His mind went wild in wonder and just as he was about to take the last corner to reach the gate, his name was called.
"Headmaster!"
It was Vic, the headmaster was satisfied with the boy. Even though he wasn't a captain, he surely was a very strong contender.
" What is it boy? As you can see, I'm not ready for a chit-chat."
"Yeah, neither am I. It's about the demon outside the gate, the warriors on night watch who had seen him first, reported that it wasn't one that is known."
"Boy! Don't waste my time, are you here to tell me something I know?"
Vic looked a little shameful, but couldn't let it dissuade him from his assignment. That was the thing about the headmaster, he would sometimes seem vicious and unkind, maybe he was really unkind, but where exactly did kindness take anyone. His character is what brought respect to him. That is why he is the headmaster and not anyone else.
"I'm going with you," Vic finally said.
The headmaster gave no reply, and continued on his way to the gate.
Vic followed closely behind without another word.
On getting to the gate, it was pulled open and what the headmaster saw made him come to a stop.
"Laccarmee!" The headmaster stated.
"The fact you recognize what I am, tells me you are the right person I am looking for." Came the steely voice of the creature.
"As far as I remember, you are meant to be non-existent."
"And as far as I remember, you Valkyries are said to be more welcoming than this."
"What do you want?" The headmaster replied.
"No, the right question is what can I do for you? I'm not here to take, rather I'm here to give you some information."
The headmaster quickly became alert, and mind linked Vic who stood almost hidden by the gate.
"Hey boy, get the archers by the gate, and ready their arrows. Get as much water controllers as fast as you can, they should all remain alert and ready for an attack."
The headmaster was satisfied with the quick response, and almost as quickly as he gave the order, his warriors were positioned.
"Now, let me ask again. What brings you here?"
"No need for all that now," the scaled creature responded. "I'm only here because I care about something and someone in your possession. But the thing here is that, along with your special Captains, she is walking into a trap set by the demon king.
I would have let it be, and watch Valkyries fall. But as I said, I'm interested in whether she lives or dies.”
The headmaster could only respond with a dry "What?"
"Oh yeah, I believe she calls herself JJ."
JJ POV
Meg? What are you doing?"
Her reply was a strong glare towards the direction of our camp.
" Be silent." She whispered.
I turned to face the direction she stared at, only to be rendered speechless.
Just ahead of me were the captains, but they weren't how we left them. Rather than sitting in the grass and laughing at random. They were all sitting in one circle, supporting each other as they were tied together by a thick long rope.
Well, not every one of them was. On the extreme right, we had Dean. He was not only bound by a rope, no, he was held down by four creatures with scale-like skin.
It was as if all four creatures were having a hard time holding him back. Without even a second thought, I jumped to go help him only to be stopped by Meg.
"What are you up to?" She hissed.
"Why are you here, let's do something, we can't let these people win." I rushed out.
"It's not a question of winning or losing JJ, do you have any idea what those creatures are?”
"No, but..."
"Me too, and since we don't know what they are, it's best to find out before we attack indiscriminately."
"Yes, I understand, but it might be too late when we finally know what they are, we can't just let them harm our friends." I said as I noticed they finally subdued Dean.
I understood where she came from but I couldn't wait, I wasn't one for patience.
If you had not realized JJ, they would not have captured them easily if they had not been caught unawares. And for someone like Tharzar to be caught unawares is almost impossible talk more about Dean. They are never caught unaware JJ.
We were not far off either, but we heard nothing. Not even a little sign of a struggle, I don't imagine it was that easy taking them down. ”
I realized she was right. Ever since I had been with the captains, I learned that even though Tharza was practically mute. He always knew what was going on. And Dean? There was nothing he wasn't aware of. Meg never made a mistake either.
" So what's your plan?"
"If they wanted to kill them, they would have tried that a long time ago, it's foolish to bind a prey before a kill. Therefore, we should know what they want first.”
"Well, that should be easy for you, just enter their brain and see what they want."
"That was the first thing I tried JJ, but I couldn't."
"You couldn't? What do you mean by that?"
"I cannot use my powers, there is something that blocks the connection to my aura.”
"Have you tried to mind link the others?"
"Like I said, JJ, I can't connect with my powers. I can't even watch the colors of the aura anymore. I believe it's related to those creatures. This is probably how the captains were overpowered.
This is insane, I thought. Life never took the easy turn, we always had to go through impossible situations.
Damn it... fuck them all. I couldn't care less now. My patience was exhausted and I couldn't wait for the plan that Meg tried to come up with.
I pursued my own plan, and what I was especially good at.
Hang on... what was the plan again? I'm not even sure. All I'm good for is stirring things up.
With my favorite pose, right hand at the waist. I began my catwalk right into their middle.
"What the moon are you doing JJ!?" I heard Meg whisper yell, but it was too late. The creatures had heard the pressure from the dry leaves beneath my foot. And they, too, stared at us with their eyebrows raised.
"Geez, Meg, what's up? What'd you yell at me for? Look what you did, you woke up those fish that were asleep. "I spoke all at once with a rolling of my eyes.
They, including the bound captains, stared at me with their jaws lowered.
"That's what I was talking about about Meg, "I said, turning around to deal with Meg while turning my back on the creatures.
"I bet you haven't seen a PSYCHO before, but I strongly believe that the biggest psycho could actually roast the best fish."
And with this declaration, I hurried to the left so quickly that I had reached the first creature without realizing it.
All I hoped was that Meg had understood what I told her or else we were good as dead.
The surprise wore off quickly from their faces and before I could land the first punch a soft but strong wind suddenly engulfed our environment.
At first I was confused, but on opening my eyes, I realized it came from the creatures. I turned to look for Meg and found her a few feet away on the ground clenching her both ears shut.
What is happening? I thought.
I looked to the other captains to find them doing same. Turning to the far right where Dean was bound, I saw nothing but the cut ropes.
Meg had done it, she was successful.
My plan had been to distract everyone while she took advantage of the situation to free Dean. Of course I didn't know how she would do it, but I trusted her.
Looking at her for a second time, I noticed her left boot wasn't on her feet.
I almost laughed at that. I couldn't believe how smart she was. All she needed to do was to get the shoe close enough to Dean and the sharp razor end of the shoe will cut down the rope.
It was no wonder why she also jumped to the left as quickly as I did. They all saw us go left, but they didn't care about a pair of boot flying right.
But the reason why everyone except me and the creatures covered their ears was still a mystery to me.
Just as I was about to voice out my thoughts, one of the creatures beat me to it.
"Why is she still standing?"
a female voice asked, and the remaining three creatures who all had male voices replied.
"I wonder."
"My thoughts exactly."
"Yes, why?"
It seemed they were just as clueless as I was.
Well, I didn't have the chance to discover the problem with their powers. My friends were in danger and I needed to do something.
Grabbing the closest creature to me, I twisted his arms so he was bent awkwardly and used him as a shield to protect myself from the weird lights that began escaping from their hands.
As the light crashed on my creature shield, he began to shake vigorously as if he was convulsing and then he fell limp to the ground.
The other creatures came out of their shock and threw the lights at me. I jumped around as quickly as I could, and hid behind a tree.
"You have no where to go little human, just give it up and surrender."
Like hell I will! And little human? Gosh, what did they see me as? Little? I'm sure as hell not little.
Before I could make another rash decision that would have caused my death, Dean jumped down from a tree out of nowhere with a heavy log of wood, almost the size of my whole body and brought it down to one of the creature's head.
I was tempted to scream yeah! But thought better of it.
Two down, two more to go.
And I came out of my hiding place.
Just then, a big rock, the size of my head came flying from nowhere and landed hard on one of the two standing creatures. Only when I saw Meg, did I realize it was her doing.
And then there was one.
But that one, already had a plan in motion, and it was something we weren't ready for.
A strong beam of light exploded from her hands towards Dean.
And being the idiot I am, I hurriedly pushed him out of the way, only to be struck by a lightening force.
