#54
After the water incident, I was done for the night. Drained of any desire to party anymore, I retired for the night.
While I had resented any invasion of my alone time all day, I now craved company. Unfortunately, that wasn't likely to happen after tonight's events, I thought to myself.
I shrugged off my dress, slipped into a comfortable nightgown, and settled into bed. Switching off the lights, I slowly drifted away.
My eyes snapped open only moments later. What was that annoying tapping sound? With a groan, I switched on the light.
Nothing. Well, that's odd.
"Ugh! I want to sleep, what woke me up in the first place?" I grumbled out.
Switching off the light, I laid back down to sleep only to hear the tapping sound once more.
"What the hell!"
With outrage, I stood up and switched the light back on in search of the noise.
With an annoyed sigh, I turned around only to stare into two pairs of white irises.
I screamed in terror, eyes wide as the whole face came into view. A white wrinkled face stared at me with an evident smile on her toothless mouth.
"Heed my warnings," came the silent, ghostly whisper.
And I released the loudest scream I could manage before she disappeared.
I shot out of bed just as the door banged open, making me jump away in fright.
"What is it JJ, are you okay?" It was Alpha Andrew that reached me first, before Lily and the Captains ran in.
"JJ, what is wrong? Were you harmed?" Meg questioned.
What was that? Was it a dream? I thought.
I looked around only to witness the concern on their faces, the strange woman wasn't here, so It was a dream. A very strange dream which felt too real.
Only after Ro offered to pick me up, did I realize I was on the floor at the very far corner of my room.
"Don't cry, please tell us what's wrong," Jody offered.
"I-I I'm so sorry f-for waking you all."
"You don't have to worry about that, you need to tell us what happened."
"I don't know, it was a woman."
"Woman?" They all chorused.
"It- it was a dream."
"A dream?"
"I think so, it felt so real, she was so scary," I cried out and Jody and Lily both climbed onto the bed comforting me.
Some hours later, I couldn't bear to remain in that room, and along with Meg who had stayed with me throughout, I went outside for a walk.
As I walked along with Meg I was reminded of the very first day I saw her, how terrified I was. But things slowly changed, I looked up to her now, and I didn't like the look she had given me yesterday, I wanted her to be proud of me, but I knew it was too much to ask, I wasn't even proud of myself how could she?
"Meg!" I called out to her.
Turning to me, she raised her brows signaling to continue. " I'm sorry."
She stopped walking to gawk at me. "Enlighten me of why exactly."
Looking down, I confessed once again.
"I'm truly sorry." I'm sorry for making you worry about me, I'm sorry for being such a disappointment, I'm sorry for just being different, for always causing trouble, I'm just sorry.
She gazed expectantly at me with raised brows.
"You didn't read my mind?"
"Oh, you wanted me to?"
"Well... You never asked for permission before."
She turned fully towards me and exhaled a sigh before speaking. " You know JJ, you are the very first person who I find difficult reading. Well apart from the Elders.
But, from the very first time I saw you, I could only read your thoughts when I'm not trying to."
"What! Why is that? Do I have a problem or something?"
"I don't know what it is, whenever I try to read you I can't, but when I try to block out everyone, your thoughts come knocking down my barrier."
"Really?" Just when I wanted not to be different, I had to have weird abilities.
"Just like yesterday, when Dean happened. I wasn't trying to talk to you, I felt you open my barrier, then just when I finally got to converse with you, I was knocked out almost immediately."
"Wow, so that was what that look was all about."
"What look?"
"The one you and Jody kept throwing at me."
"Jody? Interesting..."
"But do you believe me? That I know close to nothing of what had been happening to me."
"Yeah, I believe you."
"Thank you," I responded with a smile.
We continued our talk as we walked around the pack.
At once I noticed something quite unbelievable.
At the far back of an old barn was something I never thought I would see again, the creature stood with its magnificent features, emitting power and dominance above every being present. How the heck didn't I notice it before?
Running toward the black flying horse like a crazed person while leaving a screaming Meg behind I lunged into its personal space, admiring it.
"Oh my God, I can not believe this. They look exactly alike."
"Hello Redder, we meet again."
"Holy freaking cow, it's you!!" I exclaimed.
"JJ, get away from it now!" A frantic looking Meg screamed on reaching me.
"What, Why? It's okay we have met before," I smiled at her to calm her down.
"You have what! What in the dier's beards are you speaking of?"
Wow, dier's beards? I had never heard Meg curse before. Why is she so afraid of the horse? She stood at a good four feet away from it as if it was the devil himself.
"I see your friend is quite scared of me Redder, maybe you should follow her advice."
"Scared of you? That's nonsense, she doesn't fear anyone. And how can anyone fear such an adorable creature?"
Cracking a small laugh, the flying horse replied. "You think I'm adorable?"
" Of course, I can't wait to fly around the world with you, my dream to have a flying horse you know?"
"You can hear him?" Meg asked beyond surprise.
"Duh! Can't you?" I replied to her.
Making the horse laugh some more, it spread out its wings to flaunt them, while a loud shriek echoed around.
I stood mouth agape at the sight before me, Jody was on the floor, hands covering her mouth while Meg stood with her mouth dropped to the floor, but Dean stood with rage dripping from every inch of his body.
"Uh, what's happening?"
"I think it's time to listen to Lady Megrayan."
So as silent and careful as I could be, I tiptoed back to Meg and hid behind her. I had forgotten whose flying horse it was, I remember the last time I came in contact with the said horse, I had ended up floating above the ground.
I expected him to lash out as usual, but he simply swallowed what he was about saying and walked away, to his horse, or rather Pegasus.
"You are unbelievable JJ, just when I thought I was starting to understand you, I found out you speak to a guardian beast?"
"I'm not meant to, am I?"
"You are not meant to be able to," Jody confirmed.
"I really shouldn't be surprised, but I keep getting shocked every time something new about you pops up." Saying that Meg pulled me along in a different direction.
We walked away to the training ground, to watch as the werewolves had their training.
I was once again reminded that they brawled, not fight, they used no weapons except their claws and they were more than brutal.
I watched them tear into each other while making sure to keep my distance, I still loved my skin so much.
I noticed that a group of females stood at a corner, speaking in hushed voices while staring directly at me. I thought nothing of it and ignored them but it didn't just stop there, they began to increase in number, at first they were four, but over time they became fifteen or more, whatever was discussed wasn't a pleasant one as they all had scowls on their faces.
"Is it just me, or does it seem like those girls over there are planning your demise?" Jody asked.
"I'm pretty sure it's not just you."
It was like they concluded their discussion, as they all scattered, leaving just one girl who came walking towards me.
"Your name is JJ, right?"
Her question caught me off guard but I was able to answer her.
"Depends on who is asking."
She frowned at me in irritation before replying.
"What do you say about a one on one match?"
"What?"
"I said, I challenge you to a one on one match..."
"I heard you the first time. But my question is why?"
"Why not?"
"Well, first of all, I do not know you. Why do I need to fight you?"
"You don't need to know me to fight me, but I understand why you wouldn't want a match."
"And why is that?" I didn't like the tone in which she spoke, as well as the sly smile on her face.
"We are all aware of you being weak, we just wanted to test it out, and see how true it is."
" What the fuck! What did you just say?"
"You don't have to hide behind the pretends of being a human, we know how embarrassing it is to be a Valkyrie and be this weak. Honestly, your aura just screams of your deformity."
"That is enough!" Jody said out loud, startling us all.
"Sorry to say this but, we all wonder why you Captains follow her around, knowing how deceitful she is."
Tears had gathered in my eyes, but I refused to cry, I didn't know this girl for crying out loud, she didn't know me, but she had the guts.
She opened her mouth again about to speak, but I beat her to it, landing a heavy punch to her jaw.
"I accept your challenge."
