#42

Ok, I haven't done this before, but I dedicate this chapter to Duncana1003 jybez06 and Lone_Wolf- for the constant support.

What the heck!" I screamed.

I was no more in the hallway, I was among tall trees. Yep, in a forest.

Oh my God, why do I always find myself in creepy forests. And what the hell is going on?

"Oh God!" I groaned. I hope this is just another weird dream of mine.

I looked around for anyone, or for a way back, but I came out short. I didn't even recognize the trees. The trees looked a lot different from the ones in my dreams.

I stared in amazement at the tall enormous trees. They were big heavy looking trees, and the roots looked nothing like the normal roots of any normal tree.

Just where the hell am I right now?

I trekked a short distance, observing my surroundings. I never knew this kind of trees existed. It was too huge to be true, almost five times the size of a normal tree.

The sun was shrouded behind the length of the trees, making the forest slightly dark.

I kept walking without knowing where I was heading.

"Heh, Cicero, can't you help me out here? Where the hell are we?"

" What the hell, do you want me to do, that you didn't think of yourself. It's your fault you know."

"What do mean it's my fault, what did I do?"

" You know Redder, this is not just your body alone. You shouldn't risk my skin. Why did you have to sacrifice me like that? Now see the situation you got me into."

"Oh my God! I can't believe this. What nonsense are you spitting out of your mouth? If I remember correctly, you kept screaming at me to go save him, how the hell was I to know that this was going to happen?"

"No, no. I screamed at you to get him help, not to go dancing in the flames with him. Why didn't you think of something better?"

" Oh, since you are so smart, why aren't you getting us out of this mess now huh?"

"Well, it's not my fault, I'm stuck with your dumb brain."

" So, you admit, you also have a dumb brain, since we share same brain?"

"Tsk tsk, I'm still smarter than you."

" I still don't know why I still talk to you, it would be so much better if you were mute."

" If that is what you want, I would leave you to enjoy your peace and quiet in this creepy forest alone."

"Em... I didn't say that.

Cicero!

I was kidding, come on. Don't be mean.

Cicero... I didn't mean it."

I can't believe it, even in this situation she chose to annoy the heck out of me.

Groaning out, I ignored her and continued jumping over huge roots, and avoiding long branches.

"Redder!"

Oh, now she wants to talk? Hmm, let's see how she takes been ignored.

"You do realize I can hear your thoughts right? "

" Well... But why can't I hear yours?"

"JJ, do you think I have a mouth to speak? I don't actually speak out, you hear my thoughts instead."

" That makes sense. That's why you are the smart one."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever"

We kept chatting as I trekked the woods.

All of a sudden Cicero became quiet, I called to her, but she shut me up immediately. And I quote, " shut the hell up Redder, something is wrong."

I stopped walking, and listened attentively. The atmosphere was unnaturally quiet.

All the chirping of birds and little sounds of crickets were suddenly still. I could swear, even the leaves stopped swaying.

Then, I felt it. The tingles covered my whole body.

" Run, Redder run!!"

Not waiting for any more signal, I took to my heels.

" Oh my God, not again, Cicero what's happening?"

"I don't know, But whatever is behind us, is definitely not a friend."

I don't know how long I ran, but I was exhausted. I stepped behind the large tree to take a breather.

Well... Let's just say, that was a very wrong thing to do, because, just behind the tree I stood, I could feel a terrifying presence and I could hear the sound of silent breathing.

I held my breath and crossed my fingers. It got closer and closer. I could feel the air on my neck. And that was the signal I needed.

Without looking back, I exploded into a sprint.

A loud roar echoed behind me, making me shiver. I could feel a devilish aura creep into my skin, causing goose bombs. This is bad, I thought.

Redder, let's do it together, like we did in the arena."

I didn't have much of a choice, I definitely wanted to live, so just like before, I imagined myself connecting with her, and then boom, I powered up. Running at a speed that was almost a blur.

The beast chased me, breathing heavily on my back, no matter how much I ran, I couldn't outrun it. I didn't even know what it was, I couldn't risk a glance back. I only knew it was enormous and had claws. As I could hear it galloping behind me.

Oh God, I don't want to die, I don't want to die. I kept chanting in my mind.

The long branches and big roots weren't making my sprint any easier. It got harder and harder to keep jumping over the roots and avoiding branches. But the beast behind me didn't think so, as it released a thunderous roar.

Just when I thought I was far away from it, I heard another mighty roar ahead of me. Then I saw it. It looked like a huge dog. No, not a dog, a gigantic wolf.

It had a very dirty looking red eye. Even as huge as it looked, it still had a rotten body.

I didn't notice earlier, but it looked like a walking corpse. And the way saliva dripped from its open mouth, I could tell it wanted to sink its fangs into my skull.

Another growl indicated that the first beast stood behind me. And I just entered into another level of terrified.

I screamed while escaping the onslaught from the branches above me and the beasts. But then I forgot about the footing and I tripped, landing on my face.

Oh no, no, no! The first beast leaped towards me, but I rolled out of the way just in time. There was a cutout log lying beside me. It had two open sides at each end, so I quickly crawled in. Praying to God or anyone for that matter to come to my refuge.

From both ends, the beasts stuck their snouts. One fang almost grazing my foot.

If only I had a weapon, I thought bitterly. I only had on, my uniform and boot.

Wait, yeah, my boot, how could I forget. I quickly squeezed myself to an awkward angle, where I reached my hands into the side of my boot and removed a throwing knife. I'm sure the headmaster would be proud of me, as he always said, 'be ready for anything Jay girl.'

Looking at the small weapon in my hand, I wondered what I would actually do with it. It was almost useless.

Seeing that the beasts were growing impatient, and literally tearing down the wood with their claws.

Whatever I had to do, I had to do it soon.

So, connecting to Cicero once again, I tried to channel a lot of energy into my hand, even though I was clueless to what I was doing. I shut it out, with all the power I could collect. The knife dug straight into the head of the beast, in between its eyes.

My plan was to immediately retrieve the knife back, to use it on the second beast, but I wasn't that lucky, and it slumped dead, far away from reach.

Well... that was the moment the other beast broke the log open. It just had to have an impeccable timing, I thought.

I couldn't crawl out in time, and it grabbed my leg with its rotten claws, making me release a scream at the sharp pain.

I tried to get up and run, but its claws were buried in my legs.

I started seeing flashes of my life dance before my eyes. I closed my eyes tight, and readied myself to my faith.

But death never came, only the pain in my left foot and an unnatural growing heat.

Opening my eyes slowly, I stared in shock at the beast.

It released an ear shattering roar, as hot flames engulfed its body. And it burned alive.

And the best thing to ever happen on this god forsaking woods happened.

Prince Dean, the Valkyries guardian. Strolled my way with a swagger to his steps.

He stopped a few feet in front of me, rose a perfect brow, and scowled.

"Now just why did I have to get punished? Not only am I far away in an unknown land, with demon rogues. I have to baby sit her?"

Damn, I was so wrong, it wasn't the best thing that had happened, it's the worst.

"Well... I told you it was a bad idea saving this psycho!"

"And I couldn't have agreed more with you."
