Pr | Ancient Foes
In the dark days of an ancient war, the threat of extinction was high for the inhabitants of the land. There were many deaths occurring on the daily that deterred any man from travelling.
Sea monsters, commanded by the Siren King himself, rule the Asidian Seas striking terror on all who befall them.
Any who dare to cross the seas for escape perish, making for delicious snacks for the sea serpents.
Rocks tumble down from the once great civilisation of Ecrin. It's beauty favoured by others and its wealth envied by all. The once strong pillars that held up the castle walls fallen in despair.
The great Tsunami of Ordrac leaving devastation in its wake after killing off half the population.
The houses were crumbled to mere ashes, homes hollow with fear and loss. The people starving as the wreckage spread across their lands.
"The palace is lost," a messenger shouted as he ran through the minefield that once was the city grounds.
Fire was burning across the stands in the market place, rapidly spoiling the food and burning the treasures down to no more than crisps.
"Prince Emir must be protected at all costs," a Knight declared with a shout, dressed in armour from head to toe.
His eyebrows lowered in anger and his dark eyes hard with determination. His long black hair covering his elf-ears, as a silver band span around his head.
It was a symbol of nobility for them.
Behind a woman dressed in a jewelled dress, hid the seven year old prince from view. Panic stricken, the brunette moved aside, clutching her son's hand tightly in her own.
Atop her head was a gold band with one lone red jewel in the middle, signalling royalty.
"Will you take him to the harbour?" The Queen of Ecrin stared at her late husband's favoured Knight, Egon.
He had served the late King well, and Queen Isadora hoped he could do the same for her son one day.
"Ecrin will be great again," the Queen urged Egon, pleading for the life of her sole heir.
"But it cannot be without Emir. You must set sail for Fairdell and never look back," she requested.
Egon's blue eyes widened, hearing the faint name of the town.
"Why Fairdell? It's quite a journey away."
"He will be safe among the humans there."
Their faith in humans had wavered many years ago due to their discrimination against the elves but this was their only choice.
There were few allies among the townspeople of Fairdell - the only human town without a constant thirst for blood.
"Let me say goodbye," Queen Isadora commanded, tears welling up in her eyes.
She crouched down to eye-level with her son, wiping away her tears in an act of strength.
The people had adored Queen Isadora for her compassion and strength during hard times. She had been a strong and wise queen - an equal pair for their once great King.
"Emir, look at me," she wepped, watching Emir look around in horror.
"Egon will protect you. Take you somewhere safe. You'll be safe," She promised, guilt and grief welling up inside of her.
Her husband was long gone and she was about to lose her son too.
"Do you understand me?" She asked, causing Emir to nod with unshed tears. He was confused, distraught.
"In exchange for my request to protect Emir until it is safe to come home, I will protect your son too," Queen Isadora proposed as she stood to her full height, quickly.
Her eyes began hardening.
"I give you my word."
"For you, my queen, I shall protect Emir until my last dying breath that is a promise. But thank you for your mercy."
He would be eternally grateful to her for that.
Egon bowed to the Queen he knew he would never serve again. A pang in his heart for the life he was leaving behind at her last request.
"Ecrin will rise again," Egon said as he laid his life down as a promise to serve forever.
"For the glory of Prince Emir!"
Egon hurriedly got onboard the boat, tugging the prince along with him as they waved goodbye to a home that will be no more than rubble by sundown.
As they set sail, Emir felt anxious. He had never been passed the shorelines of Ecrin in a time when it was paradise, let alone in the chaos of now.
As they got further away, he looked back in confusion.
This was Ecrin's last act of futile survival.
Him.
The wind picked up, beginning to move the boat violently back and forth, causing Emir to be sick.
As the waves roared back and forth, the boat tumbled beneath them. Water filled their lungs as they fell into the deep, blue sea.
Emir coughed as he struggled to breathe, causing himself to engage more liquid in a futile attempt.
Ecrin was no more than a ruined city now, lost by time which pleased their enemies greatly.
