Chapter 18

Warning, contains minor spoilers from Rogue One!! Watch Rogue One, then come back and read the chapter. :)

My hands grasped the controls and the ship rocked back in forth in my efforts to keep the laser bolts from hitting us. My heart sank with every dull thud that echoed through the ship. How could we get out of this one?

"Okay, I'm going to land us the planet, and hopefully not get us blown out of the sky," I muttered, increasing the power of the shields. "I mean, how dangerous could it be down there? What could possibly go wrong ?" Obi-Wan closed his eyes and gave a terse shake of his head.

"Please, never say that. Something always goes wrong when you say that."

His words fell on deaf ears though, because I kept repeating in my head, "What could go wrong, what could go wrong?"

Red lights screamed at me from the controls, blinking rapidly. Obi mumbled something under his breath. I increased the power to the shields as I guided my ship into the atmosphere. Mist wrapped around us like a blanket, obscuring my vision.

As we glided closer to the ground, the heavy mist faded into a heavy downpour. Tall trees drifted out of the rains and mist as we landed. I lean back, studying the terrain. The broad, dark green leaves shielded most of the forest ground and vines wrapped themselves around twisted, thick tree trunks. Soft mist rose from the ground and created puddles of muddy water.

"Well, that went according to plan," I murmured softly, throwing on my cloak and clipping my lightsaber to my belt. I tucked my hair back into a thick braid and threw on my hood. Obi-Wan stood beside me as I lowered the ramp. He also flicked up his hood as we stepped out into the mist.

I stood outside and pulled in a huge breath of fresh, earthy air. The mist dampened the end of my braid.

"Where are we?" I asked, shivering. I felt like someone was watching us.

"I'm not sure," he responded.

Growing up on a very rocky and barren planet, trees were a rarity and I was mesmerized by the towering trees.

Obi-Wan nudged my shoulder, snapping me back to reality.

"How badly damaged is your ship?" I gasped. I had been so enchanted with the forest, I had momentarily forgot. Walking around, I shook my head, examining each hole, burn and scuff mark. I laid down and peered under the ship and my heart sank as I saw fuel dripping and mixing into a puddle.

"This is going to take time and money to fix," I sighed. "It's also leaking fuel, and we can't leave until I can get my hands on parts to fix it."

Obi nodded, but his eyes drifted around as if he expected someone to leap out at us. He stepped closer, eyes still roaming around the area.

"Do you feel like we're being watched?" he murmured. I nodded, my eyes darting around also.

"This is creepy," I muttered. The darkening sky and rain did nothing to ease my nerves. I walked back into my ship and grabbed a week's worth of rations and several canteens of water. I looked up at the fading daylight and nodded.

"Let's move out."

Aboard The Death Star

Darth Vader strode down the halls of the completed Death Star. What a terrifying machine they had created. He halted in the viewing room next to Grand Moff Tarkin.

"Lord Vader, I regret to inform you, but Galen Erso died during the attack on Eadu." Tarkin paused, and Vader digested the news.

Galen had been a brilliant scientist and a weapons developer. He would be missed, but his death would not affect the production of the Death Star. Takin cleared his throat and Vader turned his attention back to him.

"We have received transmissions from Scarif. Directer Orson Krennic is on the planet's surface, and the rebels are attacking. They're after the Death Star plans, hoping to expose a weakness." Vader nodded.

"Get ready to make the jump to hyperspace. We are going to stop the rebels from getting those plans." Tarkin nodded and began to bark orders as he strode out of the room. Vader turned and stared out of the window, just watching the emptiness of space. Soon. Soon, everything would fall into place. . .

Back on D'Qar

Night had fallen hours ago, and we were still looking for any signs of civilization. I was soaked to the bone and chilled to the core. The rain was still falling in a light drizzle.

Obi-Wan had gone quiet, lost in his thoughts. He had pulled his cloak tightly around him and his hood shielded his eyes.

I was on edge, to say the least. The feeling of being watched clung to me like my wet cloak. I held out an arm, signaling to Obi-Wan to stop.

"Someone is following us," I whispered, turning in a circle and unclipping my lightsaber.

"Show yourself!" I exclaimed loudly, thumb hovering over the activate button on my lightsaber. Obi-Wan didn't draw his lightsaber even as a figure shuffled out of the darkness.

"Who are you?" asked Obi-Wan, finally drawing his lightsaber and activating it.

The figure was clothed in a dark cloak that matched mine. Suddenly, he raised his hand and blue crackling lightning shot from his fingertips. I stood dumbfounded as Obi-Wan caught the lightning in his lightsaber and shot it back to the figure. But the figure calmly absorbed the lightning back into his hand. There was a hollow ringing in my ears as the figure threw back their hood and ignited their scarlet red lightsaber. I swallowed a panicked scream as Obi-Wan shouted at me. I shook myself out of my daze and ignited my lightsaber. We both charged at the figure, lightsabers humming.

The figure had a human like body, but he had pointed ears, pale skin and obsidian coloured eyes that threatened to root me to my spot. He had no eyebrows and pencil thin blue lips. He was also tall and willowy. He stood there calmly and matched us blow for blow as we swung for his head, his torso and his legs. I began to pant, sweat pouring down my brow and plastering my hair to my forehead. Obi-Wan's training hadn't been able to prepare my for this.

"Come to the Dark side, and I will complete your training. Obi-Wan is holding you back from your true potential."

I froze, and narrowly avoided having a lightsaber to my back. The voice was back. And it couldn't have reappeared at a worse time.

"Skylar!" Obi-Wan shouted. "I need your help!" I snapped out of my daze again, and swung for the figure's head. He danced out of my reach and then lightning tore from his fingers and struck Obi-Wan in his chest. He screamed in pain and collapsed to his knees.

"Obi-Wan!" I cried, falling to my knees and reaching for him. Smoke curled from his brunt Jedi robe and his face was pale and covered in sweat. With trembling fingers, I checked his pulse. It was weak, but still there. I sighed with relief. He was still alive.

But then I heard the familiar sound of a humming lightsaber. A searing pain tore through my back and I screamed in pain. I collapsed onto the ground, the damp ground soft beneath my head. And then I knew no more.

Dagobah

Mist swirled through the swamps of Dagobah, rain drifting lazily from the sky and jagged lightning flashed through the grey skies.

Smoke curled from a chimney sticking out of a hill and warm light pooled from the windows. Roots of nearby trees snaked over the roof of the house and a shimmering figure drifted towards it.

"Master Yoda?" the figure called softly. Yoda peeked his head out of his door and nodded.

"Master Qui-Gon. Good to see you it is." Qui-Gon smiled.

"It's good to see you to Master Yoda. But I come bearing grave news." Master Yoda held up a hand.

"The young Skywalker. Great darkness in her future I see." Qui-Gon nodded.

"Vader has a plan to bring her to her knees, to weaken her." Yoda grunted softly before motioning for Qui-Gon to continue. "Obi-Wan will do everything in his power to keep her from turning to the Dark side."

"Wait and see we will have to." Qui-Gon nodded again before shimmering and disappearing, leaving Yoda to his thoughts.

Back on D'Qar

I awoke to birds chirping and the sun shining. I rolled over and groaned, my back stinging. Tears of pain leaked out of the corners of my eyes as I struggled to sit up. Obi-Wan leaned against a nearby tree, rubbing a healing salve onto his chest.

"Morning," I mumbled. He looked up and smiled at me.

"Well, hello. Good to see you alive and well."

"I wouldn't say well, but defiantly alive. Who was that?" I finally managed to sit up and I accepted the canteen of water that Obi-Wan held out to me.

"Well, pretty sure it was a Sith. The red lightsaber is a dead giveaway. But usually, there is never more than two Sith; a master and an apprentice. But he was certainly a Dark side user." I grimaced as he motioned for me to turn around so he could rub in the healing salve onto my back.

"How bad is it?" I asked, biting my lip to keep from crying out.

"Well, you're going to have a lovely scar from just below your left shoulder towards the right side of your waist." I nodded.

"How long until we can move on?" Obi-Wan shrugged.

"Maybe about a day and a half."

"Okay," I said, gingerly leaning back against a tree. Obi-Wan moved around our makeshift camp, gathering firewood for when night fell. It was going to be a long day and a half.
