Memory

For as long as Naruto could remember there was a small voice sitting in the back of his thoughts. He never paid much attention to it, only when it spoke up would he listen.

Then he entered the academy.

He found himself constantly having headaches, as an influx of information that he never knew flooded his brain. It started small, with the voice whispering things like,
Chakra, the mix between Yin and Yang energy, or mental and physical energy.

Then the voice got louder, until it was a constant.

Naruto got used to it soon enough. Life at the academy was boring, thanks to the voice. But the academy was better than the cold glares the villagers treated him with.

But if there was one wish Naruto wanted to be granted, it was to not wake up from his dreams. They were his escape from reality, a life he doesn't remember living.

- He found himself standing upon a cliff that overlooked the ocean, the sun glinting off of the gentle waves. His eyes reflected the ocean, blue, and full of deep intelligence.

"Nanashi!" A happy voice called. He turned, because in the dreams his name was always Nanashi.

"Getsui." He acknowledged. Getsui had popped up in a few of the dreams. He was a friend, and advisor. His hair was a fiery red, like most Uzumaki. His eyes were black, with a gold ring edging the iris, bringing out his Kotoko blood.
"Okay. Fess up. What's bugging you?"

He sighed. Why was it always Getsui?

"I'm fine." He said. Getsui shot him an unimpressed look. "Uh-huh." He stated blandly.

Nanashi sighed again. "It's just... am I really cut out to be Uzukage?"

Getsui searched his face. He frowned. "Not with that attitude you're not." He said.

Nanashi sighed. Getsui was right as always.

Nanashi ran through the street, long red hair flying behind him.

"Nanashi, wait up!"

He looked back to see his best friend Hiasu Hyūga chasing after him. He was an odd Hyūga. He wasn't cold and arrogant, but fun and had a wild side. And because of the time he's been in Uzushio, he sported a healthy tan, and his once dark brown long hair was sun bleached blond. It was a light brown underneath.

Nanashi slowed down, allowing the Hyūga to catch up.

"Here." Nanashi caught the object tossed at him. It was a jewel embroidered box, with the Uzumaki swirl. Nanashi stopped, perched on a rooftop. He opened the box and saw a pair of beautiful hair sticks connected by a chakra enhanced leather woven thread, ensured not to snap. The hair sticks themselves were made of pure chakra stone, and glinted in the light. They were made not to break, especially with the Fuinjutsu inscribed on them.

Nanashi shook his head and made to hand them back to Hiasu. "I can't... These must have cost a fortune!"

Hiasu pushed them back. "It was nothing! I got a good deal for them! Think of it as an apology, for breaking your last pair in our spar last week. And I know you have had your eye on them, so just take it!"

Nanashi felt happy. "Thanks... Really."

And he wore them constantly, hardly ever taking them out.

He felt as though his life wouldn't change.
Then he woke up.
.
.
Naruto sat sadly, as all the kids who graduated went to their parents who smiled and laughed. He didn't notice someone watching him in worry, as his mother fussed over him and his father yawned lazily.

Naruto stood and vanished, deciding to go to Ichiraku.

And when Mizuki came to him with a disarming smile, and kind words, he ignored the feelings that ran through him, and the words that weren't his floating through his head.

Don't go. Traitor. Dangerous.

.

.
Naruto ran through the forest, a scroll strapped to his back. The voice in his head had disappeared, and Naruto was glad for the lack of headache.

He stopped in a clearing and opened the scroll, deciding to learn the first technique.

Shadow clone.

He knew this. He found his hands moving of their own accord, forming the ram sign, and a bunch of clones poofed into existence.

'How?' He thought.

He felt someone come up behind him, and whirled around to see Iruka.

"Naruto! What the hell were you thinking!"

Naruto got a bad feeling. Didn't Iruka know? He recalled the words that had flown through his mind, and he felt the blood drain from his face.

"Sensei. I've been tricked. Mizuki tricked me, told me it was a test!"

Irukas face paled faster than Narutos. His eyes suddenly narrowed, his gaze growing sharp.

"Naruto, move!"

Naruto threw himself to the side, rolling on the ground. He looked up and saw Mizuki, geared up with a bandana around his head.

He glared. "You." He growled. He felt anger that was not his, but was at the same time well up in him. Traitor. Just like her. The voice whispered, Nanashi whispered.

"Naruto... I see you've found me out. Hand over the scroll."

Naruto growled, eyes narrowing. "Hand this to a traitor!? Never."

Naruto found his words and Nanashis mixing together, voices blending, thoughts melding. He was Nanashi. But he was Naruto at the same time.

Mizuki laughed. "Stop faking demon! You just want that for yourself!"

Naruto was confused. "Demon?" He asked.

"You are the Kyuubi! Twelve years ago the fourth sealed you!"

Naruto was no longer confused. Mito-sama. Was the first thing that came to mind. So that's what the glares were for. Naruto drew out of his thoughts when he felt himself being pushed to the ground, and felt something warm land on his cheek.

He swiped his thumb across his cheek, and saw blood. He looked up and saw Iruka bent over him, face scrunched in pain.

Instinct and anger took over, and Naruto smoothly slid out from under Iruka, a memory playing through his head.

... Naruto latched on to Iruka, who had saved him from three enemy nin in the woods. He then flinched, expecting to be thrown off, when a hand landed on his head.
"I'm glad your safe Naruto-kun." Iruka said.
Naruto felt tears well up in his eyes. He'd only been told that in his dreams.
He hugged Iruka and thought, 'precious.'
...
Naruto stared at Mizuki, who stared with slight fear at the eyes that grew cold, colder than ice. He was shocked when Narutos hair turned red, like blood blooming from a wound, bleeding from the scalp.

Naruto whispered, and his constrained rage was palpable, killing intent focused on the traitor in front of him. "Traitor!"

His hand flashed through signs, as one blue eye grew lighter, a pale blue.

"Uzu Style! Gale Whip!" Naruto exclaimed, and a whip formed in his hands. It was a stormy blue, wind chakra and water chakra combined making it deadly. Naruto lashed the whip, taking off Mizukis head.

Iruka stared dumbly. Well, at least he isn't dead last anymore. He took in the red hair, which seemed longer, going just past his shoulders, and the pale eye, which seemed almost like a Hyūga eye.

He then smiled. "Naruto, come here." He said. He untied his headband and gave it to Naruto. "You're a genin of Konoha now. I'm proud of you."

Naruto smiled, and tied the headband around his head, and henged into what he looked like before. "Thanks sensei. Let's get you to the hospital." He grabbed onto Irukas shoulder and Body Flickered away, in a swirl of wind.
