Homesick

Nanashi groaned as he woke too bright sunlight streaming directly into his face. He moved to pull the covers up, and the headache but him full force.

"Argh..." He whimpered. Hiasu shushed him silently.

"Quiet Nanashi, you're too loud." he whispered, and even that was too loud to his ears.

Nanashi sighed as silently as possible as he silently got up, stumbling slightly and holding up a hand to block the sunlight streaming through the window.

He winced as he turned the tap on, water streaming out. He filled two chipped glasses and made his way back to Hiasu.

Hiasu groaned softly, and took the offered glass. He sipped it and sighed as his headache elevated slightly. He chuckled, wincing at the stab that sent to his head.

"Wow. Nanashi, I haven't drank that much since I returned to Konoha."

Nanashi smiled. His headache was quickly leaving due to the fox.

"Well, as fun as last night was, I have another matter to discuss."

Hiasu's face blanked and he nodded.

"I need you to keep me a secret. I'm not Nanashi now. I'm Uzumaki Naruto. I have team training soon." His spiky blond hair emphasized his point, as did his four foot flat height.

Hiasu nodded. "Got it. And me? I was seventy yesterday, and fifteen today. How do I explain this?"

"You'll come up with something." Naruto said as he made to jump out the window. He paused, foot on the sill.

"Keep my uniform safe. The day I grab it is the day I leave For Uzushio."

Hiasu nods and Naruto shoots out the window towards the training ground. Memories of his first genin test flew past.

"You must take these bells from me." Amakiro -sensei said, smiling.

He had gotten the bells from his aunt Mito-sama, who said her husband's brother used it to test his genin. The bells were silver, with red ribbons. They jingled tauntingly.

Nanashi glanced to his teammates. One was a Kotoko, Getsui. The other was a Namiyoru, Shiro. She was an aspiring medic, as most in her clan ended up becoming. But there was a fire in her green eyes, one that burned strongly.

Naruto looked up to see a startling green. 'Shiro?' He thought, only for it to be Sakura.

"You're late baka! You're lucky sensei isn't here."

Naruto nodded absently, still lost in his memories, and by the way his gaze was clouded over, she could tell.

Kakashi appeared in a poof of smoke.

"Good morning! Sorry I'm late, a black cat crossed my way and I had to take the long way."

Naruto and Sasuke scoffed. Yeah right.

"Anyways. Today is a survival exercise. You must take these bells from me."

Naruto barely heard Sakura's "but there are only two sensei!"

His eyes were focused on the two bells. They were silver, recently polished, and had frayed red strings. He channeled his chakra to his nose and could still detect faint traces of Amakiro-sensei's scent on them.

His eyes watered slightly, glossing over and he was just standing there when Kakashi said start.

"You're an odd one aren't you?" He asked.

Naruto focused and his gaze sharpened. He whispered loud enough for Kakashi to hear.

"I know this test. You won't fool me."

And he vanished. No trace of his scent or chakra.

Kakashi was surprised at the blonds' speed and skill at hiding chakra. He searched for the other two, knowing he will likely be surprised by Naruto, and hoping he would at least see something from his other two students.

Naruto sat on a branch, high up in a tree, tears sliding down his face. He wiped them away, steeling his expression into one of deadly determination. He leapt down, short blond hair whipping around madly. He touched down and set off in search of his teammates.

He found Sasuke buried up to his neck and Sakura passed out next to him. He used an Earth softening jutsu to help Sasuke out, and hoisted him up. Sasuke brushed the soil off of his clothes, and made to leave.

Naruto stopped him, using an Uzu Immobilization seal. He went over to Sakura, and gently shook her awake. Her eyes spring open, and she leapt up.

"Sasuke!" She shrieked, and sighed in relief as she saw him standing off to the side, head connected to his body, and not all beat up. He had a few scuff marks but that was all. She turned to Naruto.

"Why are you here baka!? "

Naruto scratched the back of his head, deciding to play dumb idiot who finally found something smart.

"I was just thinking that we could work together to get the bells. And you don't have to worry, if I get a bell, I'll give it to one of you. I've failed three times, what's one more?"

The two seemed to be considering it, before throwing it out the window, and running off. Naruto grit his teeth. How dare they, even unknowingly, disrespect Amakiro-sensei! He stormed off, intent on taking the bells, and throwing them at the two ignorant genin.

Power surged through his coils, and he attempted to control it, sharpening the storm into a blade.

"Kakashi-sensei~" He sang loftily.

Kakashi watched the blond from the bushes. He turned, blocking a strike from a sword made from, "What is that made of?!"

It was a stormy gray, with lightning flashing through it, and it was sharper than should be possible. Naruto just leapt off, and Kakashi pursued, wanting an answer. The Copy nin sped up as he realized Naruto had the bells.

He burst out of the forest in front of the memorial stone, where Naruto stood, bells no longer in his hands. Kakashi looked and saw Sasuke looking surprised with a bell in one hand, and Sakura with a similar look and the other bell in hers. They tossed them back, Sakura likely feeling guilty and Sasuke with damaged pride. Kakashi gave them an eye smile.

"You Pass."
