Chapter 18- Twenty (Edited 2/5/20)
MINAKO'S POINT OF VIEW
"Okay boys! Today is your last day of training before you take the test. Is there anything you both want to work on that I could help you with ya know?" I asked my team. Itachi and Shisui have a test tomorrow to determine if they are good enough to become Anbu. I was extremely excited for them, considering they are so young and still have so much to learn. If they are doing so amazing at such a young age, I can't even imagine how great they might grow up to be. Itachi is only twelve years old, and Shisui is fourteen. Most genin are the same age as they are currently and they are trying to become Anbu. It reminded me so much of Kakashi and I when we were younger. Shisui was hyper and confident about the whole thing, smiling constantly. Itachi was more nervous and uneasy. Itachi immediately raised his hand and looked at his feet.
"Minako Sensei...may I ask you a question?" I raised my eyebrows in concern and nodded, walking towards Itachi.
"Sure Itachi, what's on your mind ya know?" He looked up at Shisui who nodded, appearing to have the same question as Itachi.
"Will you still be our sensei if we pass and become Anbu?" I sighed and sat on the soft grass, patting the spots next to me. Itachi and Shisui each sat on one of my sides, looking off into the setting sun over the glassy lake just like how I was. I placed my arms around the boys, them both leaning on me and resting. Their onyx eyes focused on my violet ones as I felt the warm sun beam its rays on my skin.
"I have known you boys since you were little. I have watched you both grow and flourish into amazing ninjas over these past years and I can't tell you how proud I am of you two, ya know. It's true. I will no longer be your sensei that will go on missions with you or the sensei that will be your team captain." I felt both Itachi and Shisui sulk, upset about the news. I smiled at my boys before bringing them closer.
"However..." They both turned to look at me and see what I had to say.
"I will always be your sensei that will stand by your side. I will always be there to talk to or ask for help from. Most importantly...I will always be your strongest ally, someone that will love you both unconditionally. Shisui...Itachi...you guys will change the world, I know it for sure. I look forward to the day where you boys surpass me and become legends in your own right. My doors will always be open to you both, you will never have to worry ya know." I gave them both a closed eye smile but soon enough, I was on my back with two Uchiha boys tackling me with hugs.
"MINA SENSEI! YOU'RE THE BEST!" Shisui yelled. Itachi quietly hugged me, trying to hide his feelings. I knew that it hit Itachi the hardest that I would no longer be his captain. I ruffled their hair and grinned at them.
"Now, who's up for some ramen ya know?"
~~
"Naruto baby it's getting all over you!" I lectured the six year old blonde boy who ate ramen as if he would die without it. Shisui was laughing loudly at the little boy and Itachi chuckled quietly, an adorable smile on his face. Naruto looked up at me and grinned, a little noodle stuck to his cheek.
"Sowwy Mommy!" I sweatdropped and finished eating my bowl. I patted my full stomach before turning to all three of my boys.
"Tomorrow, I want you guys to be relaxed and calm. You both are more than capable of passing the test, it is all about how much you guys believe in yourselves. I, for one, believe in you both. You will succeed! After all, I am your sensei ya know!" Naruto put his fist in the air and smiled at the two boys.
"Yeah! You'll win 'ttebayo!" Naruto chimed in. Shisui grinned and ruffled Naruto's hair and Itachi quickly turned to see a little boy running towards him.
"Big Brother!" Naruto turned to see Sasuke and waved at him.
"Hi Sasuke!" Naruto grinned. Sasuke nodded back to him before looking at Itachi.
"Big brother! Is it true you're gonna take an Anbu test tomorrow?! That'll be so cool! That means my big brother will totally kick your butt Shisui!" Itachi sweatdropped and smiled while scratching the back of his head.
"Hey! I can totally beat up your big brother!" Shisui argued with a grin on his face. I leaned down to Sasuke and ruffled his raven locks. He looked so much like Itachi...
"Sasuke, do you want some ramen with us? It's all on me ya know!" I grinned. He smiled back and immediately took a seat next to Itachi.
"Boy would I!" He exclaimed. The rest of the night was fun and light hearted, a mood I wanted to achieve considering my students would be stressing out the next day. Itachi was such a good older brother to Sasuke...it reminded me of how Kushina treated me. I knew how much Itachi loved Sasuke...I could see it in the way they interacted. It warmed my heart to see my boys so loving...after all, the shinobi life can turn a person cold.
I just hope my boys never drift apart, that they will keep their warm hearts.
~~
I stood outside of the examination building with Naruto and Itachi's family. We all waited eagerly to see if my boys passed or not. I remember doing the same thing for Kakashi when he was selected to take the Anbu test, and honestly the anxiety was killer. Naruto grew restless so I put him down so he could play with Sasuke in the nearby grass. Mikoto and Fugaku both turned to me with happy smiles on their faces.
"Mina, thank you for being their sensei. I know we asked you to do this but you truly made an impact on their lives. Kushina and Minato would be so proud." I looked over at them and then at a happy, giggling Naruto. I felt a tear rush to my eye and I quickly brushed it away.
"Thank you guys. I'm so proud of them and how much they've grown. It's incredible ya know. Our village is getting stronger with each and every generation. I can see it." I smiled. I placed a stray strand of ruby behind my ear before hearing the door open and saw several teenagers and young adults walk outside with newly painted masks on. I was looking for Itachi and Shisui amongst the crowd but couldn't see them, causing me to sulk. All of a sudden, I was hugged on each side by two boys with masks covering their faces.
"YOU GUYS DID IT! I'M SO PROUD OF YOU YA KNOW!" I cheered. They both lifted up their masks to give me dazzling smiles, ones the girls would swoon over. The Uchiha gathered together to congratulate the boys on their passing the test. Fugaku giving one of his rare smiles. I looked over to see Naruto playing in the grass and looking up at the floating butterflies.
I hope that one day, Naruto surpasses me too.
~~
I woke up to the smell of cooking bacon and immediately my eyes peeled open. I looked down to see Naruto curled up against me sleeping peacefully until the smell wafted over to him too. His little nose scrunched up before his baby blue eyes widened.
"Mommy is Kaka cooking food?" Naruto asked. I grinned at the thought and sat up, pulling him to my chest.
"I think so sweetheart. Do you wanna scare him?" I grinned mischievously. Naruto nodded excitedly and put on Kakashi's Anbu mask that was laying on the night stand. It was too big for his face and kept falling off but it still made me giggle. I took Naruto back in my arms and teleported us behind Kakashi, us yelling as we did. Kakashi jumped up in the air and stood on the ceiling, completely startled.
"M-m-mina!?!" Naruto and I started laughing and I jumped on the ceiling to stand with Kakashi.
"Goodmorning my love~" I said sweetly with a grin on my face. Kakashi rolled his eyes before a slight smile could be seen through his mask. I gave him a kiss through his mask quickly before jumping down to stand with Naruto.
"So what's for breakfast?" I asked with a smile. Kakashi quickly placed some meat on three plates along with warm toast and scrambled eggs.
"Just something quick I whipped up." Naruto's mouth started watering from the food and he immediately dug in when his plate was set down. Kakashi and I sweatdropped before I lightly smacked the back of his head.
"Naruto! What do you say to Kakashi?" Naruto whimpered slightly with a piece of bacon dangling out of his mouth.
"Thwank ywou KwaKwashi." Naruto mumbled with the food in his mouth. I sighed, before kissing Kakashi on the cheek.
"Thank you babe." I grinned. He blushed lightly before replying and we dug in. We happily ate breakfast as a family before Kakashi and Naruto exchanged a look. Kakashi nodded and Naruto took off running down the hall before coming back with a wrapped gift. I raised an eyebrow, confused.
"Huh? What are you guys up to?" I asked.
"Happy Birthday!" They said at the same time. Oh damn! With all of the stuff with Shisui and Itachi, I completely forgot it was my birthday today! Naruto set the present in front of me with his massive smile.
"I picked this out for you Mommy! 'Ttebayo!" I kissed Naruto's forehead and unwrapped it, revealing a black sleeping hat with eyes and little teeth. I immediately put it on and grinned at Naruto.
"I love it Naruto! You're such a good boy!" I grinned at him. He blushed a little and smiled.
"Thank Kaka because he paid!" I started laughing as Kakashi sweatdropped.
"You're not supposed to tell her that Naruto..." Kakashi sighed. Naruto turned to him to ask him a question.
"Where's your present for Mommy?" Naruto asked him. Kakashi looked up at me and sent me a wink.
"Mine will come much later..." Chills went down my spine as my face blushed furiously. Naruto was completely clueless and Kakashi found humor in my shyness.
"U-uh..-uh...what do you guys have planned for today?" I quickly tried to change topic. Kakashi grinned and that's when I knew that I was in trouble.
~~
"Woo! I'm beat!" I exclaimed as I sat down in a chair at our house. Kakashi and Naruto took me all over the village to do fun things. At one point, Shisui and Itachi met up with us to give me flowers but mostly it was just Naruto and Kakashi. We just dropped Naruto off at the Uchiha's to spend the night so Kakashi and I could have some alone time. Kakashi pulled me up so he could wrap his arms around my waist and lean our foreheads together.
"Are you energetic enough for one last stop?" Kakashi whispered in my ear. Goosebumps traveled across my body and I melted like butter in his arms.
"S-sure.." I whispered as I gave into him. He pulled his mask down and stole my lips in a passionate kiss. He took my breath away, holding me close.
"Get dressed in something nice baby." I let out a shaky breath before nodding, appearing in our bedroom and immediately searching for some sort of dress. I resulted to one of my simple black dresses. I quickly put it on and brushed my long red hair before putting in the clip Rin gave me years ago. I wore the necklace Minato gave me and had the pendant fall right above my dress. I quickly put on some black heels and made my way down the stairs to meet with Kakashi who was dressed in a nice button down black shirt and dress pants. He still kept his mask on though which made me giggle.
"You look beautiful Mina." Kakashi commented. I smiled before wrapping my arms behind his neck. I moved his mask and pressed my lips against his, feeling myself give in to him.
"Mmm Kakashi..." I murmured against his lips. He smirked.
"Someone's getting eager." He teased. I felt the excitement fill my bones.
"Just a little." Kakashi grinned.
"Well let's grab some dinner first shall we?"
~~
"Wow Kakashi this place is amazing!" I said as I looked around. The restaurant was on the fifth story in a wealthy building. The place was beautiful, a golden chandelier hung from the ceiling and soft music echoed throughout the room. Kakashi walked up to the host and smiled.
"Reservation for two, under Hatake." The man looked at list before smiling.
"Ah yes, Mr. Hatake, right this way." Kakashi and I exchanged a glance before I followed behind the two men. We were taken to a balcony table with a single candle and rose on the onyx table. I was in awe of the beautiful scenery, especially with the millions of stars shining in the sky. Kakashi pulled out my chair for me before we both sat down and began to enjoy each others' company.
"How's being twenty?" Kakashi asked with a sly smile on his face.
"Well can't complain. I had an amazing day." I grinned. Kakashi ran his hands through his silver locks and smiled.
"Good, that was the goal." Kakashi and I had an amazing dinner together with some of the best food I've ever had. After we ate dessert and were getting ready to leave, Kakashi stopped me so we could look over at the village from the balcony.
"It's so beautiful up here..." Kakashi wrapped an arm around my waist before kissing my temple.
"I'm glad you like it." Kakashi all of a sudden sounded nervous which immediately drew my attention. He shuffled his hands in his pockets before taking something out.
"Mina, would you please look at me?" I turned to Kakashi to see him get down on one knee, his mask completely off and a black velvet box in his hand. I gasped as my hands flew to my mouth, shock invading my features.
"Minako Uzumaki. I'm not a man of many words so I'll make this short. Ever since I saw you, I thought you were the most beautiful girl in the entire world. To this day I still believe that. After everything with my father, Obito, Rin, and sensei...you're the only one that made me feel whole after that. You're my other half, the love of my life and it is my dream to spend it with you. Will you marry me?" He opened the box to reveal a simple silver ring with three small diamonds on it. It was absolutely beautiful and I knew Kakashi must have been saving up for a while to buy it. I felt fat hot tears fall from my eyes as I nodded.
"Yes!" I grinned. Kakashi gave me the most beautiful smile in the entire world before wrapping me up in his arms and kissing my lips.
"I love you."
