Opening Up

JUNGKOOK strode in class a little late than usual. Yoona, who was on her phone, snapped her head up.
"Why were you late? Practice?" Yoona asked.
"Kind of," Jungkook obscurely replied as he shook off his shoes and tossed them on the floor.
Seeing her raised eyebrow, Jungkook decided to clear her confusion.
"Taehyung left, right?" Jungkook asked.
"Yeah, he went to get supplies for Tannie about ten minutes ago," she remembered.
"Great. You see, his birthday's on the 30th and we guys were helping out in the decorations for his party. That's what took so long," Jungkook explained.
"I see. Come sit down then, it's a short lesson today and we don't have much time."
Jungkook plopped down on the stool.
"He invited you, by the way. Seokjin told him to go tell you in person but I guess some moron forgot."
"And you say that I'm disrespectful," snorted Yoona. "But that's nice of him, nevertheless. Is it going to be celebrated in the house, like a private party?"
"It's a formal party, unfortunately. Taehyung wanted to celebrate it with his friends from the television industry too. Also, he invited celebrities from the music and television industry. And that means security. And that means manners. And that also means no fun," Jungkook groaned, rolling his eyes.
"That's a disaster!" Yoona uttered, her face falling.
"I know! Formals are so boring-"
"Not that, idiot! I don't have anything formal to wear at the moment. My one nice dress is left behind at my apartment in the States and the most formal thing I have is a simple blouse and a pair of palazzo's that I'm currently wearing!" She wailed.
"Girls-" Jungkook muttered. "We can always go shopping. The party is two days later, not today."
"I don't have money for a fancy formal dress!" Yoona panicked.
"Should I borrow one from Adora-unnie? I don't think I'll fit and-"
"Damn it, girl! I'll pay!" Jungkook exclaimed.
Anything to make her stop shrieking like that.
"You'll pay?" Yoona asked, looking shocked. "No, I can't allow that. It's your money."
"Which is why I'll pay. It is my money. And besides, you have taught me some really good stuff. Let me pay."
"No."
"I insist."
"Fine."
"Wow! That was pretty quick!" Jungkook looked impressed.
"Well, when you're at your wits' end, sometimes the wisest thing to do is accept the help of the unfriendly," Yoona said and slipped out of the studio to get a glass of lukewarm water for Jungkook.
"Philosophical," Jungkook took note of.
After he grasped the meaning of her words, he turned an angry shade of mottled red. "Hey, I'm not unfriendly!"
•
Yoona stood outside the big and fancy store with eyes the size of saucers. The name A Piece Of Cake stood out in bright, flashy letters.
"Why here? Why not Arrow?" She murmured, biting her lips.
"Arrow?" Jungkook scoffed. "Have you ever seen the brands Suga-hyung dons?"
"Only on his concerts. Whenever he Facetimes, he's usually wearing his Kumamon pajama set. But you're right. Even in the house, I've only seen Taehyung-oppa or Namjoon-oppa wearing Gucci and Hermes and Kye and Kuho and ..."
Jungkook sighed. "Let's get you a dress."
•
Jungkook asked a lady in a black suit to assist Yoona while he decided to look for some Timberlands in the shop next door (with his mask on, of course).
The lady was very sweet and very imposing, picking out a lot of dresses with thigh slits. ("Show off 'em pretty legs, girl! You'll make all the ladies green in envy!")
Soon surrounded by a mountain of tight and revealing dresses, Yoona wished in the back of her mind that she was back in her only formal attire.
When Jungkook returned, he found Yoona wearing a bright yellow dress with a deep neckline and thigh slits which left very little to imagination.
"Absolutely not. Yoongi-hyung will bury me alive if he finds you wearing this and besides, it doesn't suit you," Jungkook declined.
"Then why don't you help your girlfriend out, sir?" The woman offered.
"Girlfriend?" Both choked in horror and the lady gave them a polite bow before leaving.
"Why the hell did she think we were dating? I wasn't even helping you pick out a dress!" Jungkook whispered.
"I don't know," Yoona whispered back.
"Why are we whispering?" Jungkook asked.
"I don't know!" She raised her voice an octave, shattering his eardrums in the process.
"Help me pick out a dress that we both know will suit me."
She started picking up the dresses that lay sad and lonely on the floor.
Jungkook went through the rows of dresses lined up against the wall of a certain corner in the shop. As he sifted through the many layers of chiffon, satin and more, a flash of black caught his eye.
Grabbing the dress, he rushed back to where Yoona was and held it up for her to see.
"Try this!"
She held it up and her eyes sparkled.
"Let's hope this fits!" She whispered.
Rushing back into the changing room, she emerged after a few minutes, wearing the dress he picked out.
It was a simple, short black body-fit that hugged her modest curves and reached a few inches above her knees. It had shoulder-length sleeves and did ample justice to her pretty legs. The tear-shaped cut on her back and the flowers embroidered in silver that encircled her waist all gave an attractive look to the otherwise plain dress and by the look on her face, Jungkook could tell that she really liked the dress.
After, he himself lost a bit of his composure when she shyly walked out of the changing room wearing his pick.
"Y-you look nice," stuttered he, feeling like a fool.
'Nice? Really? That's all you could think of?'
"Thank you. It was a good pick," she admitted. Smiling, she went back in the changing room.
Jungkook was a smiling mess, too, after she was no longer in his presence.
That's a pretty smile.
