Missing You - Krashlyn

Ashlyn Harris got up one morning, and her eyes immediately filled with tears. She got up, shrugged off her feelings, and fixed herself a bowl of cereal. She smiled softly as her golden retriever ran down the stairs, and met her at the table. "Good morning Zach," she said, gently petting the top of his head.

Before she knew it she heard the familiar stumbling footsteps of a small toddler. The little brunette sat at the table next to her. "Hey Mommy!" she sang, her hair messy and her clothes on backwards. "See, I told you I could put my clothes on all by myself!"

Ashlyn shook her head, allowing herself to laugh for the first time that day. "You're so silly B," she picked her up. "What do you want for breakfast?"

"Pancakes!" she squealed as Ashlyn spun her around.

"Well okay then," Ashlyn smiled at her as she put her down. "Then I will make pancakes."

She began mixing the batter and poured it into a pan. She looked into the living room that connected with the kitchen and saw that B was sitting on the couch, watching whatever cartoon was on. She soon heard the familiar sound of the "Paw Patrol" theme. She smiled to herself as she heard B say their names as the tv is.

Soon enough the pancakes were ready and Ashlyn shut the tv off. B whined, before Ashlyn gave her a look. "Not today young lady," she scolded. "Come to the kitchen to eat please."

"Yes ma'am," B said, obviously feeling ashamed of herself.

"Aw B," Ashlyn picked her up, setting her on her hip. "Don't worry, I'm not mad, now, do you want strawberries on your pancakes?"

B nodded, then burried her face in Ashlyn's hair. Ashlyn set her down at the table, then set the plate of pancakes in front of her. She grabbed some fresh strawberries from the fridge and put them on top. "Now, whipped cream or syrup?"

"Syrup!"

Ashlyn giggled and poured the sticky liquid onto the pancakes. She then cut them, making them bite sized for the three-year-old, and handed her a fork. "Thank you!" the little girl smiled as she began to eat.

Ashlyn smiled back and made herself some pancakes. Once they both finished, Ashlyn took B upstairs to fix how she had dressed. She then got dressed herself, and then they headed to the car. "Now, B, I need you to be a good girl when we get there, can you do that baby?"

"Yup!" B popped the P. "You won't even know I'm there Mommy!"

Ashlyn smiled. "Alright sweetheart, we're here."

As soon as the two were out of the car, Ashlyn took B's hand and brought her over to the big grey stone. She carefully traced her fingers over the letters that were carved into it. "B, can you do Mommy a big favor and get the flowers out of the backseat?"

"Yes ma'am!"

B ran off and Ashlyn sighed as the tears began to drip down her face. "Until death do us part," she whispered. "I never thought that would be so soon."

B came back with the flowers. She laid them in front of the grave. "Mommy," she looked at Ashlyn. "Where is she?"

Ashlyn sighed, pulling her daughter into a hug. "She went away baby girl."

"When is she coming back?"

"She's never going to come back," Ashlyn's eyes filled with tears again. "She's in a better place now B, she was very sick here."

B nodded, hugging her mother. She didn't like seeing her cry. Another car pulled up and a brown haired man got out. He laid flowers next to Ashlyn's. "Uncle Kyle!" B squealed.

"Hey superstar!" he pulled her into his lap. "How's my favorite girl?"

B giggled. "I'm good Uncle Kyle!"

Ashlyn smiled at the two. Kyle pulled her into his side. He kissed her head. "You need a few minutes?" he whispered.

He felt her nod against his chest so he released her. "C'mon B, I've got something really cool for you in the car."

"Ooh okay!"

Once B and Kyle were gone, Ashlyn let the tears flow. "Why did it have to be you? They said you were getting better! They said everything was going to be okay! Well it's not okay! I'm raising our daughter by myself! I miss you! A lot!"

Ashlyn then just found herself sobbing uncontrollably in front of the grave. "I miss you."

Kyle came from behind and hugged Ashlyn. "C'mon Ash," he held her close. "Let's get home."

Ten years later...

"Hey Mama," B was thirteen now as she sat in front of one of her mother's graves. "It's been twelve years now. I don't remember what you look like, but Mom says you were beautiful."

She sighed, letting the tears drop from her hazel eyes. Her blond hair brushed the dirt as she collapsed sobbing. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry I didn't get to know you, I'm sorry this happened to you, I'm sorry it probably hurt a lot."

The sobs racked her body until she felt a hand on her back, and then she was lifted into someone's arms. "Shh, baby girl I've got you," she stroked her hair. "I know, I know it's hard."

B took a few shaky breaths and then she was okay. Ashlyn wrapped her arm around her. "C'mon sweetheart."

"Say my name," B stopped walking.

"What?"

"Say my name. You've barely ever said it since I was a baby."

"B..."

"No! My real name! Now!"

"Blaire Michelle Harris-Krieger get your tail over here now so I can hug you."

B let out another shaky breath and Ashlyn kissed her head. It was true, Ashlyn barely ever said her actual name, it was hard. But they were both finally begining to move on.

"I love you Mom," Blaire smiled, then turned to the grave. "I love you too Mama."
