Blurbs Part 1
So, I get a word from dictionary.com every day, and in an attempt to memorize them I write the word into a sentence to help me remember. I have a few of them and I just thought I'd share because most of them involve Peter, Wade, and/or the team.
I'll write the word, the definition, and then the sentence.
#1 -
Phatic: denoting speech used to express or create an atmosphere of shared feelings, goodwill, or sociability rather than to impart information.
"I think I like you, okay! I don't know, it's been driving me crazy. We've been eating out on rooftops, sharing stories, and fighting bad guys, and it seems all friendly and I have no idea if you even feel the same way, but I'm done trying to figure it out on my own. I like you, Wade! You're funny and nice, and you share my love for puns, and you always remember to order extra cheese on my pizza!"
Wade stepped back, holding his take-out bag tight to his chest and blinked owlishly, as Peter finished his phatic outburst. "Geez Webs, I - I didn't realize you felt that way."
#2 -
Ratiocinate: to reason; carry on a process of reasoning.
"But that's the thing," Peter ratiocinated, twirling on his heels with his finger in the air. "It's not unreasonable that it was all just a friendly gesture. I mean, friends share food all the time. Buuut," he twirled around again, "When it comes to Deadpool you just never know."
MJ stared at him over the top of her journalist magazine, deadpanned and bored. "Sit down, Pete. You've been freaking out for the last hour."
#3 -
Akimbo: with hands on hips and elbows bent outward/ (of limbs) splayed out in an awkward or ungainly manner.
Peter landed down in the alley, next to Wade who was spread akimbo among the trash bags, slowly growing his chest back where the laser gun hit him. He sat slowly, careful with his bloodied arm as he leaned against the dumpster, with a pained groan.
Well, that fight didn't go well.
#4 -
Gadabout - a person who moves about restlessly or aimlessly, especially from one social activity to another/ a person who travels often or to many different places, especially for pleasure.
Wade was a bit of a gadabout. He could never sit still, was constantly fidgeting, and moved around so quickly it was rumored that he could teleport. Seeing him sit so still now, with his swords drawn and half cast in shadows, made Peter's stomach squirm uneasily. He slowly lowered himself into a crouch as his spider-sense glided over his skull.
"Saw that," Wade said, dark and sinister, poising his swords. "I'll give you a thousand bucks for your brain."
Peter could see his smile through his mask.
#5 -
Adrenalize - to stir to action; excite
Peter bounced his leg, tapping his fingers against his thighs as the rest of the Web Warriors entered the Spider Jet after him. His senses were still sharp and sensitive from the fight, but it was the close-call Amadeus had with one of Kraven's knives that had really adrenalized him.
#6 -
Buzzwig - a person of consequence/ a large bushy wig
And standing amongst the rubble, surrounded by debris and broken pipes, Spider-Man waved up at the Tricarrier with energy unbefitting of a guy who just had a building collapsed on top of him. Nick Fury sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
He hadn't even been gone 10 minutes.
He concluded that Spider-Man was, and forever would be, a buzzwig.
#7 -
Oillionaire - a millionaire whose wealth is derived from the petroleum industry,
"He's an oillionare," Peter explained, "And he owns more oil plants than you have scars on your body."
Wade snorted, "Does that make me a killionaire?" He slapped Peter on the shoulder, laughing, "Get it? Cause I kill people for-"
"Yeah, I got it."
#8 -
Plexus - any complex structure containing an intricate network of parts/a network, as of nerves or blood vessels.
Wade would never understand him. Peter was as dumb as he was brilliant. As sassy as he was compassionate. As serious as he was goofy. An intricate plexus of science, heart, and quips that managed to click nicely with Wade's jigsaw mess of bloodlust, bad puns, and cancer.
#9 -
Bootstrap: to help (oneself) without the aid of others.
Peter was finally getting along with the rest of the team and doing the exercises together, instead of bootstrapping it like he normally did.
#10 -
Gibble-gabble: senseless chatter.
Peter made a heart to Otto from behind the glass, cutting the mad scientists monologue off. "You're the gibble to my gabble, Ock."
Otto glowered at him. "I hate you."
#11 -
Sirenic - melodious, tempting, alluring
The thought of getting out of training early was sirenic enough to get them all hunkered down and focused on their task.
#12 -
Prognosticate - to forecast or predict (something future) from present indicators or signs; prophecy/to foretoken; presage.
Madam Web had a prognosticated gift, but always turned Spider-Man down when he brought up lottery tickets.
Whoop-dee-doo! Hope you liked! This was fun for me.
Also, I've officially started writing the next chapter to "Reticent Monsters." Yay! *confetti* We're back in business!
