As a person who uses any pronouns, but prefers She/They and maybe Bee and He, I was deeply offended.

STORY TIME FOR CONTEXT

Warning:person invalidating They/Them pronouns, which are ten million percent valid, and calling LGBT people "Pride Month People"

Friend 2-T (She/Her)

So so so, K, T, and A were all over for Fourth of July because all of our families are friends. K and I hate A, whereas T still likes her, but agrees that she is too much sometimes. We were going to play Bang! and K had never played before so she was reading the directions. She complained that the directions used He for the player, which is a completely fair thing to complain about because They should be used. Anyway, A started saying that it was because He is the dominant pronoun, which is absolute bullshit, there is no "dominant" pronoun, so I said that the directions should have used They. She then said something that, as someone who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community, very invalidating. She said, "We/They (I don't remember which way she said it tbh) don't care about pride month people."

I really should have told her to fix that statement or get out, but I didn't. I pointed out the error in her statement, only for her to not fix her statement or apologize to the room, for the fact that anyone in there could have been (and is) LGBT. She knows I'm AroAce, so that hurt.

Later, K and I left on my golf cart to drive around the neighborhood alone when I brought up how I thought the statement she had said before felt transphobic to me. K agreed and then we ended up having a nice talk afterwards :)

what is an idol and why am i apparently supposed to have one.

I mean, I don't even look up to a lot of people. There are some people I look up to. However, just because I look up to them doesn't mean I idolize them. I don't want to be them, I want to continue to be myself while having some parts of them, like their confidence to speak out, as most of the people I look up to have. I don't want to be them and I don't put them on a pedestal. If something absolutely wrong came out about any of the people I look up to came out, I'd stop looking up to them, simple as that.
