Chapter 4: I need Constance!

"Oh Constance! Come back, please!" I shouted. "I need you!"

I waited. And waited.

I thought that Constance was a fairy or a magical creature. She should be here by now.
Use your eyes. Her words echoed again.

Maybe, if I really use my eyes, I may find Chloe myself!
But how? Look into blank space?
I stared into space. All of a sudden, I saw a shining bubble drifting in the sky. Woah.
"Mummy! It's me, Rachel!"

Chloe was hitting the bubble and screaming. She didn't hear me at all. Maybe it was just the sight of the past or future.
Or perhaps the vision of this bubble is to show me where the bubble flew to. Constance was by my side. I could feel her presence, in fact, see. I stared beside me so hard that Constance appeared.
"Why do you need me?" Constance asked.
"I need your help to rescue Chloe. I need I find out where the bubble is now." I was so desperate.

Constance was serious and went all mysterious again. "As I said, use your eyes and everything will be revealed before your eyes."
"WAIT!" I yelled.
But Constance disappeared in a thick blue cloud.
I stared into the sky again. The bubble could be seen again.

The only way to find the bubble'a whereabouts was to go out of the house and follow the bubble. I ran down the stairs and out of the front door.
I hurried after the bubble frantically, twisting and turning round the corners of the streets. It led me to a canopy of trees, a forest. A cave could be seen up ahead. The visionary bubble led me to a dark, spooky cave.

I was too big to fit into the small cave so I had to crawl on all fours. I squeezed into the damp cave. I dug my nails into the soil as the cave sloped downwards. It was hard to keep balance on fours, especially on loose soil.
It was so dark, I could only crawl blindly. I caught sight of a tiny dot flying ahead of me. The bubble with my mother, Chloe trapped in it! It was still guiding me. With more ease, I followed the tiny dot, twisting through the narrow stretch of soil. After a long time on all fours, I finally came to a larger space. It was a single concrete slab laid on top of the loose, damp soil.
Phew, finally. I looked around in wonder. I spotted a little trapdoor carved on the concrete slab itself. I lifted it up and saw a flight of stairs under the door. I went inside and closed the trapdoor. It closed with a bang and locked itself. Yikes! I was trapped under this trapdoor. I don't care. No matter what happens, I have to find Mother. I must. The tiny dot appeared in front of me again. Relieved, I followed the dot in the darkness.

Soon, I found myself in a spacious, creepy place that looked like a long line of jail cells. I walked past every cell, reading the names of the captives carved in the walls. Poor things, they looked so miserable. Even their offenses that weren't proper ones were carved on a board and nailed below each cell. I saw a young man locked in a cell looking very miserable. His offense was: For farting at the witch herself.
Okay? There was nothing wrong with that. I mean, it WAS wrong of him but it wasn't so major that he could be locked in jail for...
I read further. 20 years? That was strict!
There was another offender. An old woman. She was lying on the hard floor of the cell. She wasn't breathing. You know what that meant.
.................................................
Name:Geralda Peterson
Jailing time: 50 years
.................................................

50 years? Woah that's a long time.

.................................................
Offense: For sneezing during witchcraft lesson and saying the vulgarities to the witch herself: stupid, silly, and shut your mouth.
.................................................
Silly and stupid aren't vulgar words. Are they? Shut your mouth wasn't either but it WAS rude in a way. Unless to a witch they were. This whole jailing thing was stupid to me. I bet you would agree.

Sick of reading about the captives as I went, I looked out for my mother's name carving. After what seemed like many hours of searching, I finally found her in a cell. She looked the most miserable of the lot. She was shocked when she saw me standing in front of her.
