Chapter three- The Hogwarts Express
I paced around the train station with my cart loaded with books and all my other necessary things. I had been in this train station for an hour, I had asked ten different police officers where platform 9 3/4 was. They all laughed and walked away. I sighed, wandering around more. I took out my wand and examined it, the old man had told me it had thestral hair as the core, and it was made of willow wood. I don't even know what that means.
Earlier my hopes had risen when I saw a couple people my age with carts full of stuff and their pets on top like mine. I had walked up towards them for help, but they ignored me. Now I just sat, leaning on my cart and muttering things to my owl.
"Wow, really?" I heard someone ask.
I looked over at a little girl holding her fathers hand. She was in deep conversation with her father, and at times they would both laugh together. I envied them. No, not because I wanted to be a disgusting female person, but because I wanted a loving and caring father. The girl and father walked up to me. I raised an eyebrow as the girl looked at me.
"Need something?" I asked politely.
"Is that a REAL owl?" The girl asked excitedly.
"Yeah," I said, and picked up the cage off my book pile.
"Woah, whats their name?" The girl asked.
"I don't really um name my pets... don't want to get to attached, you know?" I said.
"Can I pet it?" The girl asked.
"Yeah, but I probably wont be able to take it out of its cage. But you can reach in through the bars," I said, trying to be more of a people person. It was good practice.
The girl put her tiny fingers through the bird cage and pet the top of the owls head.
"Aw, good little Sparkles, That's what I named her," The girl explained to me.
"Honey, you cant name other peoples pets," The father laughed. "C'mon, our train is about to leave."
The two walked away, holding hands. I set my bird back on my books and looked at the time. My train was also going to leave soon. Then something happened that saved my life.
"This way," I heard someone say, and saw three people pushing carts like mine.
I stood up straight and walked over.
"Hello," I said.
"Hello," The oldest boy said, he had curly brown hair and freckles. and an amazing smile.
"I'd like to know how to get to platform 9 3/4," I said.
"huh, you look more like a second year. did you forget how to get there?" The boy asked.
"Excuse me, I'm a fifth year, thank you," I said.
"Hah, your to short for that. Anyway, just follow us," The curly haired boy said.
I followed them through the train station, and they stopped in front of a normal brick wall. It looked identical to all the other walls. All of the sudden, the youngest kid sprinted at the wall and went right through it. I blinked, multiple times. What?
Then the middle kid repeated what their younger sibling did. They ran straight into the wall, and somehow through the wall.
"Our turn," The boy smiled at me.
"I'm not sure if-"
The boy grabbed my hand and pulled me at high speed towards the wall before I could finish talking. I almost let go of my cart as we ran through the wall. We emerged on a new platform. A large red train stood on some train tracks, it was labeled 'Hogwarts Express'. Huge amounts of adults where standing by the side of the train while their children waved from the windows.
"C'mon," The boy said, and I was dragged over to the train.
We weaved around people until we reached a door that led inside the train. Someone took my cart away to another room, probably storage for all the passengers belongings, although people still brought their suitcases around. The boy led me up inside, then he left me in the middle of the hallway. I looked around. Was I supposed to just stand here?
"Move it!" Someone shouted at me.
I moved out of the way so a boy could pass by. I walked quickly down the train, there where many doors leading away from the narrow hallway. I picked out quickly an slid inside. Inside the room there three boys. One had brown hair in a small ponytail, with a walking cane next to them. Another had poofy black hair, and the other had short brown hair.
"Who are you?" The one with the cane asked.
"I was wondering if I could sit here," I said nervously.
Everyone wore normal clothing, much fancier then my version of normal clothing, But i was the only person I had seen so far already in my uniform. Was I not supposed to be in uniform?
"Sure, whatever," The poofy haired one said, looking out the window.
I sat down next to the one with short brown hair. The boy grunted and looked away from me. Above his head was a large suitcase labelled 'Charles Lee'. I sat down on my seat. I stared awkwardly at the door. How long was this ride going to be? I sighed. Probably really long.
Sometime a girl had joined us in the room, she greeted the boys like they where lifelong friends and then sat down beside me.
I settled down more comfortably in my seat and grabbed one of my books. I flipped through a couple pages and started to read about Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. The writing style was well educated, and they used fancy words. Whoever they where, they where a good author. Newt Scamander, I read on the front of the book. That must be the author and the person who devoted their life to these creatures.
I read the book's first page, then kept reading on. Soon I expected I would know everything there is about these creatures.
*~*
I don't know how much time passed, but as I was nearing the end of the book I looked up at the other boys. There where candy wrappers all over the ground, and they where laughing as one of them was trying to set on fire a moving chocolate frog with their wand.
"Incendio!" The poofy haired one shouted, and a bit of the floor set on fire.
"Incendio," The girl laughed, she almost hit the frog.
"Wingardium Leviosa," The one with the cane said, and the frog stared to fly. "Now hit it."
"Incendio!" Lee said, and the frog melted into gooey brown liquid midair.
I looked away from them and back at my book. A moment later, I looked up at them. Then I quickly looked back down at my book. Apparently one of them had their shirt off, they where probably changing into their uniforms. It was strange, especially with a girl here. I expected there was probably a magical curtain hanging up.
I read my book in silence while they changed. A couple minutes later all of them where wearing red and gold ties, with the symbol of a lion on their black uniforms. I had the symbol of Hogwarts on mine. Did I miss out on something?
"We should arrive in three minutes," The one with the cane said, he was looking at a pocket watch.
"Perfect," Lee said.
"Oh, new kid, we never introduced ourselves did we? Might as well be acquaintances," The one with the cane said. "I'm Benedict Arnold."
"Thomas Jefferson," The poofy haired one said.
"Charles Lee," Lee said.
"Maria Reynolds," The girl introduced herself.
"I'm Alexander Hamilton. Nice to meet you," I said, forcing a smile.
The train started to make loud squeaky noises as the brakes where activated. Eventually the train came to a stop and students began busily getting off the train. I followed the crowd out of the train, they walked in a mass of black uniforms and different colored ties down a path.
I followed them, but a huge harry wizard blocked my path.
"New years come this way," He said in a deep voice.
I followed him hesitantly over towards a group of young children. Their eyes all gleamed with excitement and wonder, and they all had uniforms like mine. The harry wizard led us over to some row boats with lanterns on them and told us to get inside. I slowly stepped inside, trying not to throw up at the memory of the hurricane, water always haunted me.
We set out on the boats with lanterns, and my first day at Hogwarts began.
