Becoming Wei Wuxian :

If someone would have told Xiao Zhan two years ago that The Untamed was going to be a wold wide hit and would finally make everyone around take a notice of him and his talents, he would have probably laughed in their face.

Xiao Zhan remembers the first time his agent had told him that he had to audition for the lead role of Wei Wuxian in the show based on the highly popular BL novel Grandmaster of demonic cultivation.

He had felt strange thinking about the things he might have to do on screen with another man... Then he had remembered that he had nothing to worry about because he was afterall not in Thailand and the show was being produced in Mainland China.

Xiao Zhan had felt relieve.
Xiao Zhan had smiled.

"There is no reason to smile yet Zhan. You are talented but the projects you have worked in have not really done anything much for your career. Zhan, you need to bag this role." Xiao Zhan's manager had said taking a seat in front of him.

"I will try my best Gege ." Xiao Zhan had said smiling like an angel.

Xiao Zhan's manager had thrown a hard bound notebook at him then.
"Read it, it's the novel. The more you understand the better your chances are to land the role."

Xiao Zhan had just saluted to his manager before walking off to read the BL Novel.
He had then searched the internet for other shows that had BL theme.
That is how Xiao Zhan had ended up calling his close friend Bai Yu.

"Gege, it's me."

"Zhan ya, how have you been?"

"Gege, I have a few questions about the show you did last year, Guardian."

"Ask away." Bai Yu had said casually.

Well that's a good sign, Xiao Zhan had thought before asking about how Bai Yu had approached his character.

Xiao Zhan had not watched the show when it had aired. He had been busy. But after having spoken to his friend he had decided to give it a go.

He had been impressed. He had felt relieved that a show with BL theme could have so much heart.

Though there had been flaws, one could not help but fall in love with the main leads.
'They are definitely in love.' Xiao Zhan had thought to himself after watching the show.

Then he had proceeded to read the novel 'Grandmaster of Demonic cultivation'

'Fuck!  How are they going to make it look straight???' Xiao Zhan had wondered.

Xiao Zhan had fallen in love with Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian was brave, loyal and misunderstood. He had been betrayed and hated. Wei Wuxian had turned dark. Wei Wuxian had killed. Wei Wuxian had been killed. And through all this, one man had stood by him. Lan Zhan had stood by him. Silently loving him and protecting him. And in the end they had finally ended up together.

Xiao Zhan had truly felt for the misunderstood anti hero. Xiao Zhan had really wanted to bag this role. Xiao Zhan had also wanted to meet His Lan Zhan.

A few days later Xiao Zhan had given the auditon. He had gone in thinking about Wei Wuxian.

He had aced the audition.
Xiao Zhan had walk out as Wei Wuxian.
Everyone had fallen for his beautiful eyes and his heartwarming contagious smile.

When he had left the audition room a girl had muttered, "Born with a smile on his face... "

Becoming Lan Wangji :

When Wangji's Yibo's manager had told him that he was being considered to play the second lead in a BL themed drama, he had laughed.

"Dude, are you fucking kidding me right now?"

When his manager had stared at him he had realized that this was indeed not a joke.
"You are serious!" Yibo had exclamained.

"Mn." His manager had nodded.

"How?? Why?" Yibo had said before sitting down and picking up the hard bound notebook.

"What is this?" Yibo had asked flipping through it's pages.

"This is the novel. You are supposed to audition for the role of 'Lan Wangji' , he is the love interest of the lead." The manager had elaborated.

"I am not interested." Yibo had refused outright.

"But this is being made on a decent budget and the novel has a huge fan following." The manage had tried to convince the man child.

"Gege, I am only 20. I have barely started out. If I play a gay man how do you think it will effect my career?" Yibo had tried to reason with his manager.

"Yibo, it will not effect your career negatively. Even though the book is BL the production team has assured me that all BL elements will be removed. It will be completely straight. After all, this is Mainland China and the producers are aware about the laws...Just read the book ok. If you still don't like it we can skip the audition." the manger had said before his phone had rung and he had left the room to answer the call.

The manger had known this yet, but this thoughts on how The Untamed was going to be made had been completely wrong.

When he had returned, the manager had told Yibo that the reason he was being considered for the role was because the role demanded lot of physically draining activities.

"You just said that they will remove all the BL parts!" Yibo had shouted.

"Yibo, I know you are young and busy and you don't get time for... Your self.... But please think straight. I am not talking about those kinds of activities." The manager had said massaging his head and added, "There is a lot of sword play and acrobatic action!"

Wang Yibo had laughed guiltily and gulped.

"Ok, I will give it a read. But if I don't like it, you have to promise me that you wouldn't force me to do it."

"You have my word." The manager had said before leaving the young man with the notebook.

Wang Yibo had picked up the book only to keep it down after he had read it completely. It wouldn't be wrong to say that he had devoured the book.

The book had made him feel things. The book was not just some trash without a story or a plot. The book was more. It was about loyalty, family friendship...it was about a man's journey about loosing everything and at yet finding peace in the end.
But the book was above all, a story about two oblivious dumb fucks in love.

And 'Lan Wangji' had truly captivated Yibo. 'His face shows nothing but his heart holds so much!'

Yes... Yibo had fallen in love with Lan Wangji. He had wondered how a man who spoke so little would be portrayed on screen??
Yibo was impressed. If done right, maybe...just maybe, this could actually do better than all his previous endeavors put together.

Yibo had really wanted to bag the role of Lan Wangji.
Yibo had also, really wanted to meet
His Wei Ying.

But one thing had bothered him the most.
'How the fuck are they going to make it look straight!'

Yibo had called his manager and immediately agreed to go for the audition.

Wang Yibo had been brilliant and he had been selected immediately.
His poise and grace had impressed everyone.
When he had walked out, a girl had looked at his retreating back and muttered, "A man so beautiful... "

Now for those of you who are wondering, who in the world was this muttering girl..well..she was none other than the author of the the book whose characters the two young men had fallen in love with.
She was Mo Xiang Tong Xiu.

And for those of you who are wondering how they had made the novel about to oblivious dumb fucks in love into a Straight TV show...Well the simple answer is... They hadn't... They hadn't made it look straight all..if fact..

They had not even tried!
