2nd May 1998

   Walking through the rubble and ruin, Hermione could feel tears threatening to escape. 

   Bodies upon bodies where lying or being placed in to the rows that filled the area where they once ate and sat together, white sheets placed over them. 

      She could see Madame Pomfrey and a few other healers running about, tending to the injured. 

     Someone was walking amongst the dead, parchment and quill in hand, uncovering their faces one by one, jotting down something, before replacing the sheet and moving on. 

      Death records, Hermione realised.

   How many died today, she didn't know. What she did know, was that it was far too many. 

      She could see Ron and Harry, trying to help with somethings, clearing away rubble in order to make more room for the dead and injured. Profes - Headmistress McGonagall was doing the best she could from helping bringing in the injured, to identifying bodies. 

     Hermione could only guess the amount of pressure the Headmistress was under. Imagine having to be the one to write home to the parents telling them their child has died.

     Looking around, Hermione could see some of her friends. 

  Ginny seemed to be in shock, sitting next to her mother. She could see George sitting next to a stretcher which Hermione immediately knew bore his brother's body.

  Arthur was helping with the death records along with two of his sons, Charlie and Percy.

     Percy was a bit of a prat and was also insufferable at times, but at the moment, he seemed to be serious and responsible and rather diminished, rather than stuck-up. 

    She could see Bill helping with the stretchers, Neville and Luna helping with the injured, aurors and important people from the Ministry dashing about, everyone seemed to be doing something, anything, in order to try and take their mind of what had happened.  

    Unable to take it anymore, Hermione stepped outside to get some fresh air and clear her mind. 

    Everyone in there, including herself, where broken. 

Emotionally drained.

Traumatised.

Broken.

Lost.
