CHAPTER SIX: SAME OLD, SAME OLD

Thunder was rumbling and it was raining when you and Five went outside to the courtyard with the rest of his siblings before standing in a circle.

You were standing on Five's left side as Klaus was standing on Five's right side.

Everyone except for Luther and Diego was holding a black umbrella each, except for Klaus who was holding an pink umbrella.

The familiar statue of Ben marked the courtyard, your eyes wandered to it almost instantly, an uneasy feeling forming in the pit of your stomach, you tried your best not to cry.

Then you could feel someone grabbing your hand and you looked to the right to see Five looking at you "You okay?" he asked and you shook your head "I know you miss him, so do I" he said "I miss him a lot" you said and Five wrapped an arm around you, pulling you closer to him.

"Did something happen?" Grace asked and you all looked confused at her "Dad died. Remember?" Allison asked "Oh. Yes, of course" Grace said, looking down as her smile faded "Is Mom okay?" Allison asked and Diego looked at her "Yeah, yeah, she's fine" he said before looking back at Grace while Klaus pulled up a smoke with his free hand "She just needs to rest. You know, recharge" Diego said.

"Whenever you're ready, dear boy" Pogo said, looking at Luther who was holding the urn which contained their father's ashes.

Luther opened the urn before he flip it upside down causing the ashes to fell straight down on the ground, making a pile.

"Awkward" you mumbled while Luther looked around at the others awkwardly "Probably would have been better with some wind" he said before he looked at you "Y/n, you wanna send them off?" he asked "I think he's fine right where he is. Beside he don't deserve to be sent off" you said.

"Does anyone wish to speak?" Pogo asked, breaking the silence "I will" you said and they all looked at you "Reginald, you were a terrible father when you were alive. And you were a terrible father when you were dead. May you rot in hell, your heartless bastard" you said causing Five, Klaus and Diego to try to hold in their laugh.

"In all regards, Sir Reginald Hargreeves made what I am today. For that alone, I shall forever be in his debt. He was my master...and my friend, and I shall miss him very much. He leaves behind a complicated legacy--" "He was a monster" Diego said, cutting Pogo off and Klaus laughed at Diego's words.

"He was a bad person and a worse father. The world's better off without him" Diego said "Diego" Allison said "My name is Number Two. You know why? Because our father couldn't be bothered to give us actual names. He had Mom do it" Diego said.

"He is not wrong, he was an asshole. He was horrible to us. He emotionally abused us. Experimented on us. Gave us childhood trauma. He put us through hell, tortured us with our own powers for years. Treated us a lab rats. He never gave any of light of day unless it was for a new training session and worse of all, we had numbers for names. Damn numbers" you said.

"Would anyone like something to eat?" Grace asked "No, it's okay. Mom" Vanya said "Oh, okay" Grace said.

"Look, you wanna pay your respects?" Diego said as he stepped into the circle so he was in front of you and the others "Go ahead. But at least be honest about the kind of man he was" he said "You should stop talking now" Luther said and Diego turned around to look at him "You know, you of all people should be on my side here, Number One" he said "I am warning you" Luther said, a little aggressive "After everything he did to you? He had to ship you a million miles away" Diego said "Diego, stop talking" Luther said aggressiv "That's how much he couldn't stand the sight of you!" Diego said as he was poking his finger at Luther's chest.

You looked at Five "Let's made a bet" you said and he looked at you "Okay" he said "I will bet that Luther will threw the first punch" you said "Okay, then I will bet Diego will threw the first punch" Five said "And the winner gives the next time we are buying something" you said "You are so on" he said.

Luther push Diego's hand away and threw a punch at him which Diego dodged causing them both to let out a grunt as everybody stepped back "Boys, stop this at once!" Pogo shouted at them.

"I won" you said before you looked at Five "You will give the next time" you said and he nodded.

Klaus put his hand in front of you and Five and backed away, but Five push his arm away.

Luther threw a punch at Diego, hitting him making him step back "Come on big boy! Come on!" Diego shouted at him, punching him again.

"Here they go again, those two never stop fighting, something never change" you said as you rolled your eyes "Always like children, still fighting like kids" Five said "Same old, same old" you nodded lightly.

Pogo let out a sigh and a scoff, shaking his head before he turned around and went inside.

Diego dodged another of Luther's punch, he then jumped up and punched him three times causing him to grunted.

You let out a sigh before closing your umbrella which cause Five to pull you closer to him, not letting you stand in the rain without an umbrella.

"I'm gonna stab you both with this umbrella if you two don't stop acting like children!" you shouted at them but they didn't listen.

"STOP IT" Vanya shouted "Hit him! Hit him!" Klaus said.

Luther grabbed Diego's shirt "Get off me!" Diego shouted and punched Luther in the face causing him to let go.

"We don't have time for this. Come on Love" Five said but you didn't moved "I want to see how this ends" you said.

Luther grabbed Diego's shirt before he threw him to the ground.

Diego quickly got up and dodged Luther's fist before he gave him a knee in the stomach.

Diego threw a kick at Luther before he threw a fist at him but Luther grabbed Diego's wrist before he grabbed Diego's shirt "Get off me!" he shouted before punching Luther in the face causing him to let go.

"Come here, big boy!" Diego said and Luther threw a punch towards Diego who jumped to the side making Luther's fist hit Ben's statue causing it to fell down on the ground, breaking "Oh..." Klaus said "And there goes Ben's statue" Allison said.

"You're both acting like five-year-olds!" you shouted at them but they continue.

You then glanced angry at Luther and Diego "You guys are fighting like kids. Grow the fuck up, both of you!" you shouted.

"Come on, let's have some coffee before we get to work" Five said "That sound good" you said as you looked at Five "But I still want to see the fight" you said and he let out a sigh.

Diego then grabbed one of his knives "Diego, no!" Vanya shouted, but Diego threw the knife at Luther and it just hit a little bit of Luther's arm leaving a little cut on his arm.

Luther started panting and let out a gasp before he quickly covered the cut with his hand.

He looked around before he quickly ran inside.

Vanya walked over to Diego "You never know when to stop, do you?" she asked "You got enough material for your sequel yet?" Diego asked "He was my father, too" Vanya said before walking inside.

Klaus walked over to the ashes before he bent down "I bet you're loving this. Hmm? The team at its best. It's just like old times" Klaus said and took a last puff of his cigarette before sticking it into the ashes.

He then got up "Best Funeral ever" he said in a sarcastically voice "I don't agree with you" you said "You know I have missed you so much little sis" Klaus said as he wrapped an arm around your shoulder before ruffling your hair "Missed you too" you smiled as you, Klaus and Five walked back inside.

Flashback start...

17 years ago...

"Nietzsche once said 'Man is as a rope stretched between the animal and the superhuman. A rope over an abyss. It is a dangerous crossing, a dangerous looking-back, a dangerous trembling and halting'" Reginald read from his book. He was standing on a top of the staircase with his notebook. Vanya was standing next to him, she had a clipboard in one hand, a stopwatch in the other and a whistle around her neck.

You and your seven siblings were all standing at the button of the staircase. You were all wearing the same shirt. It was a green tracksuit with white trainers.

This was a race up the stairs and none of the kids wanted to be the last.

Reginald closed the book and Vanya blow the whistle making you all to start running up the stairs.

"As much as you must strive for individual greatness, and strive you must, for it won't come to you of its own accord...you must also remember that there is no individual stronger than the collective" Reginald said as you and your siblings ran up the stairs.

Diego and Luther took the lead, behind them was you and Five.

Five then blinked in front of Diego and Luther "That's not fair, Five's cheating!" Diego said.

An idea formed in your head and you smiled. You then used your powers on Diego, making him fall. You chuckled as you ran past Diego up the flight of stairs.

Five then blinked next to you before he grabbed your hand "That was really smart" he said before he blinked the both of you ahead.

"Y/n is cheating too" Luther said "The dynamic duo are cheating" Diego said "They adapted" Reginald said as you and Five looked at each other with a smile.

"Race you" you said "I'll win" Five said as you and him ran up the stairs.

"No powers" you said "I'll still win, Y/n/n" he said.

"The ties that bind you together, make you stronger than you are alone" Reginald said.

After the training, it was time for you and your siblings to get tattoos.

You were waiting for your turn while you were all sitting in a row of chairs.

You were scared and Five noticed this, so he rested his hand on top of yours in comfort. You looked up at him and saw him not looking back at you.

You gave him a smile and placed your other hand on top of his, also comforting him.

Even if he isn't good with emotions or showing them, you knew he was scared and nervous, just as you were. You felt Five slumped his shoulders down and finally looked at you "We'll get through this, Y/n" he said "I know, Five. I'm just scared 'cause I know it hurt" you said "This is just a needle with an ink. We're going to encounter more dangerous things than this. We'll be fine, okay? Together" he said and you nodded "Together" you said as you could feel that he was also a bit scared but he tried not to show it.

Five has never been a soft person nor was a comforting one but he can if he's around you. You make him soft and weak. You were like his weakness, but you were also his strength.

"Number Five, your turn" Reginald said and Five got up before walking over and sat down by the tattoo chair.

You took some deep breaths before you looked at Ben who was shaking a bit "It's gonna be okay Ben. It will only hurt a little" you said before you took his hand and he stop shaking a bit.

"Number Eight, your turn" Reginald said and you took a deep breath "You can do this, Y/n. It'll be over soon" Ben told you as you walked over before sitting down in the tattoo chair.

You were sitting in a chair which was a temporary tattoo parlor. The tattoo machine buzzed and the needle was piercing into your skin causing you to squirmed in the seat as you could feel the needle.

Just like the rest of the kids except for Vanya, you were getting an Umbrella Academy tattoo on your left wrist. Your Dad found it necessary to give the kids tattoos at the age of 13 'cause he wanted to show you all that you were part of The Umbrella Academy.

Tears ran down your cheeks and you kicked squirmed in the seat, trying to hold back cries.

The tattoo was a black umbrella inside a circle

Allison cried while Klaus comforted her as the two and Five already have gotten their tattoos done.

You closed your eyes tight, trying not to cry as you could feel the needle on your skin "Breath" you could hear Five whispered behind you and you tried to take a deep breath but it didn't worked and your body started shaking.

You could feel that your body was about to power up.

But before anything could happen, you heard Five humming quietly behind you which cause you to power down before you took a deep breath and calmed down.

Five kept humming quietly until you were done and you quickly got up from the chair before walking over to Five who quickly wrapped an arm around you "It's okay, I'm here" he whispered "Thank you" you said "Anytime" he said before he lay a soft kiss on your cheek.

You looked at the tattoo on your left wrist. It look a little bruised and bloody.

Then Diego was next, you could see how scared he was. And he almost started crying when he sat down on the chair.

Diego sob quietly as he could hear the machine buzzing and he could feel the needle in his skin causing him to start groaning. Grace was about to take his hand but he took his hand away.

"They will make you impervious to the pain and hardship the world will thrust upon you. And believe me when I tell you, life will be hard. It will be painful" Reginald said.

As soon as Diego was done, he quickly got up from the chair and walked over to the three of you "You okay?" you asked him "It's just hurt, I hate needles" Diego said "I know, but it will get better, you just have to fight through the pain" you said.

"We can accomplish anything when we accept responsibility together. This is what creates trust. Together, you will stand against the reign of evil" Reginald said.

Flashback ends...
