CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE: THE GALA

---

You, Five, Diego and Lila were bending down with your backs up against a small brick wall.

You had your hair sat up and you were wearing a dark green dress.

Diego was in a black suit with a brown and black tie while Lila was in a light blue dress and Five was still in his umbrella uniform.

Diego glanced over the wall quickly, seeing that no one was looking our direction.

He then put his hands on the wall and climbed over it before he crouched down next to a parked car.

Lila climbed over the wall quickly before doing the same.

You and Five glanced at each other before nodding and you jumped over.

You were all hiding behind the parked car, bending down as you looked at the building where the Gala was being held.

"So, what's the plan?" Lila asked "We infiltrate, we identify, we extract. Double time" Diego said looking at you before he looked back at the building.

Lila turned to Five "What the hell is he talking about?" she asked "Find the old man and get out fast" Five answered and Diego turned to look at him "That's what I said" he said before he turned back "On me" he said before running towards another car.

You looked at Five "Just go, I will be right behind you" he said and you nodded before you followed Diego.

You knew that Five probably wanted to tell Lila that he don't trust her, and you had it fine with that, every since the high-five, you knew that she was not from this timeline. 

Lila looked back at Five "After you" she said but he just clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes at her.

"What, I can't be polite?" she asked "Cut the crap. All right? My dimwitted brother might buy your bullshit, but my wife and I don't trust you for a second and I don't know what you are up to, but leave Y/n alone, understood, and if you touch one hair on my wife, I swear to God I'm going to kill you" he said "O ye of little faith" Lila said "Stick it up your ass" he said, looking at her while he smiled fakely.

Lila smiled before she walked after Diego and you with Five right behind her.

Slow mariachi music was playing as you and Diego enter the building with Five and Lila behind you as overlapping chatter was heard.

Five quickly grabbed two glasses of champagne from a tray that was being held by a caterer.

He turned around before handing one to you "My lady" he said "Thank you" you took the glass from him before you both took a sip while you quickly looked around.

"I don't see Dad anywhere" Diego said "Just keep an eye out for the Majestic Twelve" you said "Y/n/n and I got upstairs" Five said before he looked at Diego "Diego, try not to do anything too stupid" he said and Lila chuckled softly.

Five then turned around before he started walking away but then you grabbed his wrist which cause him to to stop "What?" he asked "Let's dance" you said "That's not what we came here for" he said "I know, but just one dance. Please" you said "Love" he said "Come on. It wouldn't hurt" you said "We can't. We have to find dad, remember? That's our main focus" he said "Fine" you said before you let go of Five's wrist.

"Y/n" he said "What are you waiting for. Go find dad. It's your main focus after all" you said angry "Don't be like that" he said "You go have fun. I will find someone else to dance with" you turned towards the stairs. 

You were a bit angry. You didn't really care about the dance, well you did, but you just wanted to spend some alone time with Five. It's been a year since you last saw him and you have missed him a lot. The world was going to end again and you wanted a dance.

When you reach up the stairs someone grab your wrist which cause you to turn to see Five.

 "Y/n Hargreeves, may I have this dance. Since it has being a long time since we danced together. So may I have this dance?" he asked and you nodded "Yes" you smiled

You put your arms on Five's shoulder as he put his hands on your waist and you started dancing.

I still feel your breath on my skin

Five caught your hand when you dropped them to his chest and he stepped to your side as he spun you around while the two of you were dancing to the music.

"I'm sorry about before" he said and you looked at him "I think my mind and body just wanted to get this over with" he said "It's okay. I can see that you're tired and you just want to get this done" you said "Yeah, so I can live a peacefully without any problems life with you" he said and you looked at him.

He then brought your hands up, placing them on his shoulders while his other hand rested on your waist.

Now I know it's true, yeah

Five puts his hands on your hips and you threw your arms around his neck.

Five caught your hand when you dropped them to his chest and he stepped to your side as he spun you around while you were both dancing to the music.

He grabbed your hand and spinned you around while you were smiling.

He then brought your hands up, placing them on his shoulders while his other hand rested on your waist.

You have missed this, it has actually being a long time since the two of you have dance together like this.

While dancing, he kept his green eyes on your beautiful gentle Y/e/c eyes which he had loved for as long as he could remember.

He pulled you closer so your faces was inches apart.

He lifted his left hand while you lifted your right hand causing your fingers to locked together.

He grabbed your hand and spinned you around while you were smiling.

"You couldn't pick anything else than that uniform, we are going to a gala, not you first school day" you said "I didn't had the time" Five said "I did. So why didn't you found a outfit that will match the gala?" you asked "'Cause I didn't want to" he said before he tilted his head "But you look so beautiful and it just made me fall more in love with you" he said with a raise eyebrow "Stop flirting" you said "Why? You always love it when I'm flirting" he said "Well, it's because you are terrible at it" you said "Well, it work on you" he said with a raise eyebrow while you rolled your eyes.

He looped his arm around yours as he spun around.

You caught his free hand, placing it on your waist.

You then hooked your arms around his neck and pecked your lips twice "This is why I married you" you said causing a smile to spread across his lips.

"You are my one and only, Y/n" he said "Aww" you said with a smile and he then pulled you closer to him before you rested your foreheads against each other, closing your eyes.

I've seen every sunset
And with all that I've learned, oh

While your eyes were still closed and your foreheads still touching each other, you both stood still, enjoying the moment. Only hearing each other's heartbeats and feeling each other's love.

Everytime you did something like this, you always felt like the only two people alive and it felt like everything around you was in slow motion.

In this moment, it was just you and Five and your love for each other.

"I need to go to the restroom" you said before you gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"I will be right back" you turned around before walking down the stairs.

As you headed to the restroom, your eyes widened when you spotted someone, a woman with long blonde hair that was curled the ends standing near the stair case. She was wearing a white skirt with a black long sleeved shirt.

"It can't be" you said before you got up and walked towards the woman.

"Grace" you said and your eyes widened when the woman turned around. It was Grace, your mom.

"Mom" you said "Never heard that one before. I think you must be mistaken me with someone else" Grace said and you stepped closer to her "Everything all right, sweetheart?" Grace asked "You're real" you said "Well, I'm a real human being, if that what you mean, but I'm sorry, I'm not your mom" Grace said "Oh..." you said, you knew that this wasn't your robot mom that you have grew up with. This was the woman she was cloned after.

"Shall I help you find your mom?" she asked "No thanks, I can find her on my own" you said and took a deep breath "Do you know a man named Reginald Hargreeves?" you asked "Reggie? He's my date this evening" she said "Your date? Ugh" you said "Do you have a problem with that?" she asked "No. No, no, it's...it's just, uh...It's just a lot to process. The...The thought of the two of you, I...I can't picture that in my head. That is...That's nasty" you said "You're a little odd, aren't you?" she said "Yeah. I mean no" you said and Grace smiled "But you are cute" she said "Thank you" you said and smiled "Do you know where he is?" you asked "He said something about a quick meeting and he'd be right back. That was 20 minutes ago" she said "Never good to keep a lady waiting" you said "Tell him that if you find him" she said before she started walking away "Uh...Grace" you said and she looked at you "It was nice meeting you" you said "You too. Hope you find your mom" she said before she walked away "Thanks" you said before you turned around and rushed up the stairs.

"There you are" Five said as you walked over to him "You will never believe who I just ran into" you said.

But then there was the sound of men murmur indistinctly and the two of you quickly hide in a room before you saw a group of men walking down the hall and into another room before they closed the door.

You and Five walked out of the room before you walked up to the door and Five grabbed your hand before he blinked them both into a closet inside the room where the group have walked in.

You both leaned forward to look out of the shades of the door.

You could see all the Majestic 12 gathered in a dark room that was dimly lit by a few lamps that were placed around the room.

"The president is continuing to make inquiries into Roswell and the other crash sites, gentleman. And, as you know, we cannot allow him to get his nose into our business. I've confirmed the motorcade will indeed be turning left on Elm Street. We'll have our people in place" a man explained.

"Gentlemen, this plan of yours seems ill-timed" said the man that had his back to the closet, and you and Five narrowed your eyes as you both could recognize the voice, it sound like Reginald "It's going to be a turkey shoot" a man said.

You and Five moved a bit making a soft clatter causing the man to turn around and look at the closet and your eyes widened when you saw that it was your dad, Reginald.

"Dad?" you whispered as your furrowed your brows "Shh" Reginald said to the other men and he grabbed a fire poker that was standing in front of the fireplace before he made his way towards the closet causing your eyes to widened as you grabbed Five's hand.

"Five, get us out" you whispered to him.

You both took a step back and just as Reginald began to jab the fire poker through the the door, Five blinked away with you.

You both appeared back on the hallway and you both exhales sharply as Five fix his shirt.

"I will find Diego" you said as you ran up ahead but then one of the Swedes who wearing the same outfit as a waiter to blend came walking out one of the rooms.

He grabbed you before he push you against the wall.

Five heard you grunt and he turned around to see his wife in danger "Y/N/N!" he shouted before he blinked up on the guy's back "LET MY WIFE GO, YOU SON OF A BITCH!" he shouted as he tried to snap his neck.

The guy let go of you before he grabbed Five and threw him away causing him to fall to the floor with a grunt.

"Okay, nobody hurts my husband, you asshole" you said before you threw a fist at the guy.

Five got up and was about to run over but then another one of the Swedes walked out from a room before looking at him.

"Shit" Five muttered and the Swedes grabbed his blazer, pulling him forward before he push him against the wall causing him to grunt before the guy shoved him towards another side of the hallway.

But before he could hit the wall, he blinked away before he appeared behind the guy and kicked him in the leg, causing the guy to fell on his knees.

He then jumped up on his back trying to snap his neck as he made a straining noise, but the guy lifted his arms behind himself before grabbing Five by the shoulder, leaning forward, swinging him up and threw him onto the floor causing him to groan.

The guy lifted his fist to punch Five but he blinked away with a whoosh before he appeared behind the guy.

The guy got up and turned around to look at him and Five clenched his fists, causing energy to sputter as he tried to blink but nothing happen, meaning his powers was failing him again.

"Oh, shit" Five said as the guy began walking towards him before he punched him in the face.

You swept your legs under the first Swedes' legs causing him to fall to the floor.

You then turned to rush over and help your husband but then a pair of arms grabbed you before lifting your feet of the floor.

You slammed your elbow into his side and the guy let go of you before falling backwards into the wall behind him.

The guy threw a punch at you but you bend down dodging the punch.

You threw a punch at the guy but he dodged the punch before he grabbed you by the throat and push you against the wall.

"That is not how you treat a woman" you grab a empty glass before you smashed it at the guy's face causing him to grunt while letting go of you as the glass shatter.

Diego then came walking up the stairs and he looked to the right to see you and Five fighting against the Swedes.

"Five, Y/n/n...." Diego said and was about to walk over and help but then a belt was wrapped around his neck causing Diego to let out a gasp as the third Swedes Axel pulled him backwards down the hallway by the belt while Diego tried to pull it away.

Your body was slammed into the wall next to you causing you to groaned as he let go of your arms before grabbing you throat.

But then you kicked your foot against his chest before pushing him off her causing him to stumble back catching himself on a small table by the window.

You threw a punch at his jaw, knocking his head to the side.

The guy swung a kick at her face causing you to let out a grunt.

You then kicked him in the groin before you threw a punch at him causing him to groan in pain as he stumbled back.

The guy threw a punch at you but you bend down, dodging the punch.

You dodged the punch before punching him right in the face and you kicked him in the stomach.

He threw another punch at you but you bent backwards, and moved around before you swung at him again, hitting him in the face.

Diego threw a knife towards the guy you were fighting but it miss and hit the shelf next to him.

Then Lila came walking up the stairs and she stopped when she heard both Five and Diego groaning.

She looked at Diego and was about to walk over and help him but then she heard Five groaning and she turned around to see you and Five against the Swedes.

Five groaning as he was getting slammed into a wall while you let out a grunt as a fist hit you in the face.

"Lila" Diego said and she looked at him "Help me! Lila! Help..." he said.

"Protect Number Five and Number Eight at all costs"

Lila grabbed Diego's knife, that was stuck in the shelf before she turned around to ran over to help Five.

Lila kicked off her heels and jumped up on a small table, before she jumped up, grabbing the chandelier that was hanging from the ceiling and kicked the guy before she wrapped her legs around his neck.

Five sat up from the floor and blinked twice to see how skillful Lila fought. He could almost recognize the fighting patterns and skills.

Lila then let go of the chandelier and with her strength she pulled the guy down on the floor.

"You're welcome" Lila said to Five who was narrowing his eyes at her.

Five saw the guy get up and ran towards him before he push him out of the window.

"Okay, playtime is over" you said before you reach into your dress quickly, grabbing out a small knife before you dig the knife into the guys' shoe causing him to grunt and he stumble back as you took the knife out.

He threw a punch at you but you dodged it and when he lifted his fist to punch you again, you dodged the fist before you stabbed him in the shoulder causing him to grunt as he grabbed his shoulder while blood started to spurt through his white blazer.

You then stabbed him in the waist before letting go of the knife and he reach to punch me in the chest causing me to fell to the floor while he stumble back still with the knife stuck in his waist.

You threw a punch at the guy causing him to stumble towards the railing. 

You then took a tight grip by his ankel using your powers causing him to gasps as he felt his stamina being drained from him causing him to fell down on his eyes.

"And goodnight" you swung a kick at his face making him fell to the floor.

Five then blinked over to you "I've got you" he said as he help you up.

"Sorry" he said "Took you long enough" you wipe some blood off your lips.

You look towards the guy to see him getting up and you looked at each other.

"Together" he said "Together" you said before you both spun around, throwing a kick at the guy, hitting him in the stomach making him fall out of the window.

Five then blinked you both outside the building.

"You okay?" Five asked as you leaned your head against his chest, his heart was racing, you could hear it thumping loudly in your ear.

You pulled away from each other and he wipe the blood off your nose with his hand "Sorry" he said "It's okay, you had your own guy to fight against, beside I handle it" you said and he smiled as he slid a piece of your hair away from your face.

 "You okay?" you asked "I'm fine" he wipe the last blood off his nose "What about you?" he asked "Fine, I heal quicker than you guys, remember, so I will be fine" you said.

"What about Diego?" you asked "Diego can handle himself" Five said as he wiped the blood from his nose.

"There is dad" you pointed and Five turned around to see Reginald opening a car door to a black limo.

"Tell me about a complicated man, Muse. Tell me how he wandered and lost" Five shouted out in Anicent Greek and Reginald looked at him as Five and now you continued speaking Anicent Greek to him with your American accent.

You remember the words, it was the citing from the opening paragraph of the book he had read to you and your siblings when you were kids.

Reginald looked at you and Five for a few seconds before he got into the limo and drove away.

"The Odyssey, good one. We got his attention" you said "We did" Five said.

Then Diego and Lila ran up to the two of you "Was that him?" Diego asked "Yeah" Five said as you watch the limo drive away.

"You okay sis?" Diego asked as he looked at you "I'm fine. Sorry, for leaving you" you said "Don't be. Five kinda kidnapped you, beside I had it under control" he said.

"You know, I'm starting to get the feeling Dad's avoiding us" Five said "You think" you said sarcastically.

"Hate to be the boring one, guys, but, uh, it's time we get the hell out of here" Lila said, rubbing the back of her neck before she walked in front of the three of you.

Five took a step forwards, facing Lila "When you say 'we' who exactly are you referring to?" he asked, leaning forward and Lila turned around to look at him "Not a lot of ambiguity in that sentence" she said "Listen, I don't know who you are or where you came from, but whatever it is, I'd advise you return posthaste" Five said as he glared at her "She's right Five, we need to get out of here" Diego said, stepping forwards.

"I just saved your life, you kinder-shit. If I hadn't stepped in, all that would be left of you is a blazer and some bloody socks" Lila said "And that's the problem" you said "You're too good. You ask too many questions. You know too much. And you fight like you know what you're doing" Five said "He's got a point" Diego said, looking at Lila "So I know how to handle myself, and that makes me the bad guy?" Lila asked.

"Whoever you are, you're in my way. If I see you again, I will kill you" Five said as he was looking at her with a threatening look "That include the both of us" you said.

Five then glanced over his shoulder, to look at his wife with only one thing in mind, get you back home so you could rest.

You took a step forward but cause of the fight, you were about to fall but he caught you as he blinked over to you and he hooked his arms around your waist.

"Easy" you let out a chuckled as you pressed your nose against the side of his face.

"I'm fine Five, really" you pulled away from him and his hands moved from your waist, before he place his right hand on your cheek and your left hand on your back.

"I'm okay" you said while his eyes studied yours, looking for a hint of pain that suggested otherwise, but he couldn't find anything in your Y/e/c eyes that was staring into his green ones "I just lost my footing" you said.

"Are you her bitch or what Five? 'Cause I think you are, you act like it" Diego said and you both glanced at him before Five looked back at you.

"Come let's get you home" he said before he grab your hand and the two of you walked away.

Lila step forwards before she looked back at Diego who was not moving a bit "Diego, we need to go" she said "I was getting my ass handed to me back there, Y/n too. You helped Five, not me or Y/n" Diego said, stepping closer to her "Why?" he asked "Because he's a kid and you're a man, Bloody act like one" she said.

"You should have help Y/n" Diego hissed at Lila causing her to raised a brow "Five would have wanted you to help Y/n over him" he said "Well, she seems like she handle things" she said and he just nodded before he walked passed her "Diego, I...I...We shouldn't--" she said but was cut off when he stopped before he turned to her "You know what?" he said, stepping closer to her "I'm used to dealing with liars, Lila, but I like it better when I know what they're lying about" Diego said before he turned around and began walking away "Oh, come on, Diego. Really? You're just gonna walk away?" Lila shouted but he ignored her "Diego!" she shouted as he ran away.

When you, Five and Diego returned to Elliott's apartment, you spotted Luther passing out in the living room on a chair.

"Well, it seems like Luther wanted to help us after all" you said as the three of you were looking at Luther.

"Well, Five and I will take the other bedroom" you said before turned around, walking towards the bedroom with Five following behind with his hands in his pockets "Please be quiet, I don't want to hear you two going at it" Diego said as Five closed the door behind him.

"Sit down. I will clean that wound" Five said "You don't have to" you said "Yeah. It hurt seeing you hurt" he said before he grabbed a bowl, filled it with water and then came back with a rag.

He sat down next to you, and he continued looking at your cut, before he dip the rag in the water and started cleaning the rest of the blood off your nose and on your lips "He got you good" he said "He came out worse" you said which cause a small smile to appear on his face.

"I shouldn't have brought you. I should have being able to protect you, I should..." he said but then you grabbed his hand "It's not your fault, okay. We came out alive. I'm okay, we're okay. Beside there was no way that you could keep me from not going" you said and you looked at each other.

As you were looking at each other you saw pieces of his dark brown hair that fell over the right side of his forehead, right above his eye and was hitting his nose.

"Come, let get to bed" he said and you smiled before you both lay down and pulled the sheet over you before you closed our eyes and you turned to lay on your other side, so your back was facing me.

Looking from a window above, it's like a story of love
Can you hear me
Came back only yesterday
I'm moving further away
Want you near me

It didn't take long before you fell asleep but Five couldn't sleep, so he opened his eyes before he moved closer to you which cause you to sigh before you opened your eyes "What?" you asked "You know that I always sleep in the middle" he said, "Not tonight. Now shut up and get some sleep or you will sleep on the floor" you said "I know. I'm trying" he said.

You turned around and moved closer to him before laying your head on his chest while he put his arm around your shoulder.

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

But then he opened his eyes again and he sighed as he sat up "Yeah. I can't get to sleep unless I'm in the middle" he said "Then we spoon" you said and turned around "I can spoon" he said and lay back down "Okay" you said "I can spoon" he said before she turned around and he turned around too, putting his arms around you before pulling you closer, so we were spooning. But Five could feel like he couldn't move.

"Hey Love" he said "What?" you  asked "There's a fine line between cuddling and holding someone down so they can't get away" he said "Alright, then you be the big spoon" you said, letting go of him before you turned around and he turned around too, putting his arms around you before pulling you closer, so you were spooning again.

Sometimes when I think of her name
When it's only a game
And I need you

He let out a sigh with a smile "Hmm" he said and closed his eyes.

Listen to the words that you say
It's getting harder to stay
When I see you

But he still couldn't sleep, so he opened his eyes and looked at you as he could feel that his arm that was under your body started to hurt.

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

He looked at his arm and started to move it, causing you to opened your eyes "What now?" you asked "My arm's falling asleep" he said and you grabbed his arm before you lifted it away.

He shook his arm a few times, before he turned around so your backs was touching each other and he closed his eyes.

This is going to take a long time
And I wonder what's mine
Can't take no more

But after a few seconds, he opened his eyes again "I don't like this" he said, "I'm gonna punch you" you said "I know, I know, I'm sorry" he said.

You both turned around and looked at each other before you let out a smile. "Okay then, just come here" he said and grabbed you "Just come here" he said and turned you around, so your back was pressed up against his chest and he put his arms around you.

Wonder if you'll understand
It's just the touch of your hand
Behind a closed door

He then pulled you closer so you were spooning again "Yeah, this is good" he said.

This remind you of all those times, you were laying this close in the apocalypse to keep each other warm.

We both loved to lay like this. Cuddling.

"Love you" he said "Love you too" you said before you both felled asleep.

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you
