Short Story: 4

"Your call could not be completed as dialed. The number you have called has been disconnected or is no longer in service."
Hanging up, she sat the phone beside her thigh as she sat on her floor in the middle of her bedroom as tears of pain and heartbreak trickled down her face. The rain and thunder from the massive thunder storm could be heard from outside and that only made her sadder.
Her house was completely dark due to the power going out, and usually this would frighten her and she would call him to come over to keep her company so she wouldn't be alone ..but this time she couldn't .. he was gone, just as fast as she could blink and snap her fingers, he was out of her life.
At this moment she felt as if she had been shot, or worse, as if the air in her body was being sucked out of her at a rapid speed.
What had just happened, wasn't what she expected to ever happen. It was something she did not even see coming, and the more she cried and sobbed into her hands, the more she realized that not seeing this coming is what hurt the most.
She thought what they had was the real deal, as if he was the one for her but sadly not everybody gets blessed with happy endings and rainbows with a pot of gold.
Three years of her life she wasted on a man that she grew to love more than her damn self, wasted on a man that she catered too every second of the day, and wasted on a man that she trusted with her life and heart only to be let down.
The words that poured out of his mouth over the phone, continued to play like a broken record in her head; driving her insane.
"I love you Briana, I swear I do but I can't keep living this lie. I should have told you from the beginning that I was engaged and that I had a whole family at home.. but I fell for you and that was something I didn't expect to happen, but I can't leave her or my kids for you .. so what we had is over, and it kills me to say this but it had to be done. I'm sorry for everything,"
Wiping her eyes to stop the tears, she stood up from the floor and walked over to her bed and got under the covers curling herself in a ball.
She sat in complete silence, just listening to the sky cry and shout all night feeling their pain.
She felt so dumb for believing that she had actually found a good guy. She told him everything from her past, present and what she wanted in her future and for three years he fed her lies, and all kinds of bullshit. He told her everything she wanted and needed to hear and that's what made her fall for him.
He was her saviour, he helped her out of a bad place only just to put her in another bad place. "Niggas ain't shit," She mumbled to herself.
The longer she laid in that spot, it gave her a chance to just reflect on everything. She thought about all the lies he told her, and all the good times they shared with one another.
"One day, you and I are gonna get married and we're gonna have kids... the whole nine. I can see it now." Kissing her on the lips, he wrapped his arms around her tightly as they watched the sunset from her balcony. "You mean a lot to me, and I wouldn't want that kind of life with anyone else besides you."
It was all complete bullshit and like a fool she believed him. She was hooked onto his every word and he knew that and used that against her.
Sitting up so her back was pressed up against her headboard, she stared down at her phone hoping that he would call her back and tell her that this was a just a joke and that he wasn't really leaving her for somebody else.
She didn't want to believe that three years of being with this man had finally come to an end.
But the longer she stared hoping for that dream to come true, she knew that this was her reality. But she had so many questions, she wanted to know what it was that she had done for him to just leave her like this, or what she could have done to make him stay.
Or why did he do this for so long? Especially, since he knew this whole time he was engaged and had a family of his own to take care of. She wanted to know his motives, she needed more answers not some bullshit apology to clear his conscious.
Calling his number back, she put the phone on speaker just to hear that his phone was disconnected once again, so that let her know that she was blocked.
But she wasn't going to let this stop her from getting the answers she deserved.
Flipping her covers back, she got out of her bed letting the coldness of the floor chill her feet as she darted over towards her closet to throw something on.
Grabbing a pair of sweats and a shirt, she got dressed and grabbed her shoes not wasting anytime. Walking back into her room, she picked up her phone and purse then headed out her room and to the front door.
Grabbing her keys that hung by the door, she opened her front door and looked at how hard it was raining but no storm was going to stop her from getting the answers she needed to help cope with this heartbreak.
Running out, she quickly locked up her house then took off to her car using her purse as a shield but it didn't help much. Getting into her car, she was completely soaked and her hair was sticking to her face.
Starting up her car, she turned on her wind shield wipers and pulled out of her driveway and headed to his house.
The whole drive there, she could only think about what she was going to say to him. When he called, he gave her no chance to ask a question or even say a proper goodbye before he ended the call and after what he did, she deserved more than that shit.
When she came to a red light, it seemed as if the rain started falling harder. She had her wind shield wipers on full blast but that wasn't even helping much.
Sitting up super close, she pulled off from the light and continued on with her journey letting the rain be her music.
When she got to his house, she saw all the lights were completely off but his car was there along with another car that she had never seen before.
She had came to his place plenty of times, but this time felt different. This time everything he had told her over the phone was about to be proven.
Parking her car across the street, she got out and walked over to his driveway and up to his front door. Reaching her hand up to knock, she froze when she heard a noise, pressing her ear against the door she couldn't hear much but she knew something was going on in that house.
Walking over to the side window, she peaked through the blinds and the scene before her eyes broke her heart and confirmed everything she did not want to believe.
There he was making love to this unknown woman, and she just had to deal with it.
Briana felt herself get pissed the longer she stood there watching him do the things he did to her to this bitch.
Walking away from the window, she walked back to her car and popped the drunk grabbing her bat that she kept for safety reasons. Holding it up, she looked at it long and hard before she turned and looked at his nice car wanting to give it a little make-over.
Reaching his car, she stared at it thinking back to the trips and memories spent in that damn ride. She thought back to the time they fucked in the back seat, their first date, and their last date.
Swinging the bat she hit his windshield busting it and that made the alarm go off but she didn't stop. She contined to bust all his windows and hit every inch of his car letting that anger out.
"You wanna play me and think you can just leave like that huh!?" She yelled swinging the bat to his headlights.
She rose her bat once more but was grabbed by strong hands and she knew it was him.
Turning around, she was faced with the devil himself. Snatching away from him, she looked at him with nothing but hate. "How could you fucking do me like this Tory!? I gave you three years, three fucking years of my life and this is how you do me!? You call me and dump me!?" She shouted only for him to corner her and press her up against his car.
"Chill out, my wife is not too far. What else did you expect me to do!? I couldn't continue to lie to you knowing that you couldn't fully have me to yourself as your own. I did you a favor."
Looking at him crazy, she frowned. "Did me a favor!? No doing me a favor is being real from the jump and telling me you were fucking engaged! You wasted my time and you knew all that I had been through and I fucking trusted you man, how could you do this to me!?"
Looking down she started to cry into his chest, and even though this was hurting Tory more than anything.. he couldn't fix this. He loved Briana, he wanted to spend forever with her, she was the woman he he truly wanted .. but he came from a family that did not believe in baby mothers so there was nothing he could do to fix this.
He didn't purposely fall for her, it just happened and with the type of woman that Briana was it was hard not too. She was funny, sweet and supportive and she believed in you and saw only the good in people.
The last person he ever wanted to hurt was Briana, because he knew that this type of pain wasn't what she deserved.
Wrapping his arms around her, he sighed. "I'm sorry,"
They stood in the rain both crying their eyes out, and although he didn't want to let go of her he had too.
Pulling away first, she held onto him and looked up at him with those same eyes he fell in love with. "Just tell me why Tory? Why did you do this to me? Just tell me please,"
Removing her hands from him, he shook his head as he looked back to see his wife standing in the doorway with a certain look before walking away. "I-I can't ma', because no matter what I tell you .. it will never justify why I did what I did."
Reaching back she slapped him hard, holding the side of his face he nodded knowing he deserved that. "Fuck you Tory, you never loved me everything was a lie and I was just dumb enough to believe you and fall for you!"
Pushing away from him, she grabbed her bat hitting his car one last time before she walked back across the street towards her car.
Tory watched in pain, the love of his life was leaving and was heart broken all because of him and there was nothing he could change or do to make shit right.
Walking back into his home, his wife stood by the couch with a smirk. "She was actually a pretty little thing too, watching her cry did kinda make me feel bad for her, but you did what was right babe .. you had to let her go. You have a family, you didn't need her."
When she went to walk off, he stopped her. "Yolanda, what is the point of all of this? We don't even love each other, is this really how you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you don't even love?"
She shrugged, "Who said I didn't love you Tory? I've always loved you, but you never once felt the same about me. I've loved you from the very beginning, and I never stopped. So I'm not gonna lie and say it didn't hurt my feelings to sit and watch you be the man I always wanted you to be for someone else. So like I said, you did the right thing. You have a family and you don't need her."
When she walked off and headed back upstairs, Tory stood there not sure what to say or how to feel.
Him and Yolanda had been through a lot together over the years of knowing each other, but sadly he didn't get that same feeling of love and happiness from her like he did with Briana.
Briana was literally everything a man could ever ask for in a woman, and the thought of losing her behind a woman he didn't even love just wasn't sitting well with him.
Tory loved his kids and he did not want to break up their family, but Tory was never the type to settle and he didn't want to raise his kids to think that settling was okay.
Sliding on his shoes, he grabbed his car keys for his car and walked out of the house. Staring at his fucked up car, he knew he wouldn't be able to drive this especially in this weather.
Looking over at his wife's car that he just brought, he ran back in the house and grabbed her keys off the bar but stopped in his tracks when he saw her standing at the top of the staircase. "If you leave, don't bother coming back Tory."
Not saying anything else he left out of the house and hopped in the car. Pulling out of the driveway, he turned down the street in the direction of Briana's home to make shit right with his baby. He knew it was gonna take a lot of begging and apologies but he was willing to do whatever to get her back.
Approaching a light that was red then turned green, he went to drive off but stopped when he saw an ambulance and a firetruck speeding through the lights going in the same direction as him.
Finally being able to pull off, he took that time to just think. Images of Briana crying her eyes out clouded his mind and it made him feel like shit.
Approaching where the cops, ambulance and fire trucks where at, he slowed the car down and started to go around them when he saw it was a car wreck, but when he noticed the car that was flipped on its hood his heart sunk.
Pulling over, he got out of his car and walked up to the scene only to be stopped by officers but he roughly pushed away from them. "Sir, we're gonna need you to step back." One officer shouted.
Ignoring them and waving them off he continued walking to her car and tears instantly started to fall the moment he saw her lifeless body in the car covered in blood. Covering his mouth, he dropped to his knees alerting the other officers who was trying to break open the door to get her out.
Feeling arms wrap around him and lift him up, they forced him to walk away so he wouldn't have to stare at her like this in that state.
He could hear the officer asking him questions and talking to him, but he couldn't hear a word she was saying. All he could think about was how he lost her and how the last call and the last thing he ever told her broke her heart.
