something that never made sense to me

is when ppl r like "i need a trans/black/whatever character!!" and proceed to just make a new oc using that as the base??

my character creation starts off with their personality, theme, or role in the story, like for morena i knew i needed a necromancer mentor for victor.

and once that's established i work on the 'extra stuff', like race or sexuality or w/e. then i just kinda spin my magic wheel of random traits and slap something on them that seems cool. "uh, i haven't made a mexican yet so let's go with that" or "uh i guess he can be gay" "i havent made a white guy in a while so okay"

the concept of creating a character JUST so you can fulfil some random diversity quotient doesnt make sense to me? it feels less...genuine

pretty much the only reason why there's so many different skin tones in nfh is bc when drawing group photos everyone's not the same shade of white or brown so it's not boring. and that's what diversity is. it makes things more dynamic and less same-facey. its not really a political statement to me.

(of course, some settings cant account for diversity, such as men's prisons (no girls) and period pieces where immigration wasnt a thing (all one race)) but that's another rant for another time

but guys seriously dont make tokens make characters. if the characters whole idea is 'theyre trans' instead of 'theyre a warrior fighting against an oppressive emperor' somethings wrong
