Chapter 6

Her steps echoed on the white corridors as she passed, disturbing the silence that mostly ruled the place.

A place that even though from the day she remembered it, carried the same style and decorations around, it still felt as if it had changed so much. What was it that had changed?

The walls were the same color, the floor was as crystal clear as always, the curtains were as unmoved and even the air held the same fragrance as it had for the past seven years she has been working there.

Who would have thought back then, when Elle first ended up accepting the position of the secretary of Mr. Kim Namjoon that she was to stay for so long by his side. That she would be the only one disturbing the silence of these corridors with her steps and the only one who would open windows for some light to get inside.

She had to admit. In the beginning, everything was kinda creepy for her. Starting from him himself and the way he kept himself isolated and following with the absurd hours in the night which he would call her just to come and make him coffee.

Mr. Namjoon had been from the strangest people she had ever met, yet life sure proved to be more strange towards her.

Her breath started getting a bit more speedy as her steps finally took her in front of his office and there she halted for a second before taking a deep inhale and pushing the big wooden doors open.

She was met with the usual absolute darkness in which Elle, didn't hesitate to step into, her feet safely taking her to the curtains which she didn't hesitate to pull, instantly filling the room with the light of the day.

A displeasing growl followed her actions from the man that once again had fallen asleep on his wooden desk and had barely closed his eyes to catch some sleep just some minutes before her steps started echoing faintly in the atmosphere.

"Good morning Sir. It's time to get up." Elle spoke to him in her usual tone, making Namjoon just growl more as he tried to hide his face under some papers.

"Why does morning come so fast? Is someone stealing my 24 hours of the day?" He mumbled before he managed to lift his head a bit and show his face to her as he looked her way.

"No mare day hours would ever be enough to fulfill all the things you like to occupy yourself with Sir." She replied with a slight smile and then she stood there waiting for him to stand properly on his seat, as he did after some more minutes of dragging his body around.

"Why so early today anyway?"

"Your fiance will be coming over, Sir. You have promised to have breakfast with her," Elle informed him of the date he had arranged with his soon to be fiance which as always he seemed to have forgotten.

"Ah, right. I said that, didn't I? Thank you for the reminder."  Namjoon tried to get himself up from his chair only to plop back on it again, as his vision was too blurry to enable him to get anywhere.

It has been four days that he hadn't had proper sleep and the exhaustion was visibly catching up to him.

"I will bring your coffee." Elle's voice reached his ears that ringed annoyingly for the moment and he just nodded his head without looking at her, till he felt the room spinning and he decided to let his head rest on his desk for a bit more.

He heard her steps going away as he stood there with his eyes closed, trying to gather his strength but he found himself drifting to sleep instead. A split second that took him into the void that existed in his memories. Complete and utter darkness. To the point that it made him feel small, it made him feel lost, it made him feel scared enough to jump from his seat in a cold sweat at the exact moment that his secretary was entering his office with a tray in her hands.

Unlike Namjoon, that was staring at her in shock while breathing heavily, Elle seemed pretty calm as she had halted by the door momentarily yet she soon proceeded to enter, not giving much attention to his evidently shaken state. She left the tray at the side of his desk without meeting his eyes and Namjoon cleared his throat as he tried to collect himself and not appear weak before her.

A stupid try to hide as he knew if he had shown how weak he was to someone that sure was her.

He felt her hand on his shoulder and that was what made him sit again on his chair before he finally left his eyes meet hers. Eyes cold and unwelcome that soon got directed towards her hand, thing that made Elle pull away really quickly and apologize for overstepping her boundaries.

"Inform me when my Fiance arrives." Was all he told her as he looked away and Elle quickly bowed and stepped out of his office, closing the door behind her soon after.

Yes, the place may have not changed, the walls were still white and the floor was still as clean as the first time she had stepped in here, yet he sure had changed a lot. From someone, she didn't know to someone she got to know to someone an even more than a stranger that he was before. Yet he was not the only one that had changed cause she had too. She had also become someone he didn't know as well as someone who is gonna betray him soon.

---Change of set---

Jung JayHyun was seating opposite Jimin who offered him the cup of coffee which he had ordered for him and had just been brought to his office.

"Please make yourself comfortable," Jimin told him with a smile and Jaehyun returned his kindness by proceeded to take a sip from the warm liquid.

"It has really been so long since we met. How have you been cousin?" He asked and Jimin responded with a typical reply as if he didn't want to get into details.

"I am sorry about Mr.Park's death. None of my family managed to attend the funeral. I hope you don't hold any negative feelings about that."

"Why would I. It's normal for people to be busy, I am sure aunt must have had way more important things to do than pay the last visit to the husband of her only sister." Jimin replied with a smile, but contrary to the calm exterior his words dripped poison so much that JaeHyun felt a shiver run down his spine.

"Ah, ha...well, You have every right to be displeased. I wasn't happy when I heard about it either. I hope you know that if I was in the country I would have definitely come by." JaeHyun left the cup back on its plate, feeling as if he had managed to agitate his cousin's nerves to a point that made him feel alert.

"It doesn't really matter to me. No one presence would have brought any change to my feelings anyways." Jimin cut the subject short as he really didn't like the topic he had opened so he decided to avert their conversation to something else. "What may be the reason for your sudden visit, however? Was it just to pay your condolences or?"

"Well, of course, I wanted to see how you and TaeHyung are doing. You are my favorite cousins after all. How about we all meet together? I really missed you guys." Jaehyun leaned more towards the desk with a sweet expression on his face and sparkly eyes that as always made Jimin dislike him more.

Since they were kids, he didn't particularly like him. Even though he was the only child of the beloved sister of his mother, he still carried around him an aura that tended to throw Jimin off. He smelled of tenacity and hypocrisy enough to make Jimin feel as if he was in a competition of who would deceive who when in his presence and of course there was no way he would let himself lose when it comes to manipulation.

"Sure, whenever we both happen to have an opening, I will give you a call," Jimin replied not intending for that call to occur anytime soon.

"Great. I will be waiting for that then...since I have something really important to share with both." Jaehyun replied with a smile as he stood up from his seat.

"Important?" Jimin's voice made him halt and he smirked for an instant before looking past his shoulder to face him.

"I happened to find out something I wasn't supposed to know." He replied with a  serious face that made Jimin grow quite intrigued.

"And that something is related to you." He added and Jimin stared at him for a second before he proceeded to get up and face him properly as the atmosphere made him have the need to do so.

"To me? What could you possibly know about me that I don't?" Jimin stared at him with confidence, slightly trying to intimidate him and show him that no matter what he may say, it wouldn't be something that would face him in any way.

"You would be surprised, cousin. Or should I say...Brother."
