Stereotypes

Stereotypes are a really big thing to attempt to drag someone down. They are all over the place, and in reality, they are hardly ever true. Many people may take a look at you and just assume something by the color of your hair, skin, or just flat out looks.

I understand how this works with being a blonde. People almost always assume that I'm as dumb as a rock when they first meet me. But as they get to know me better, they realize that I'm really smart. (Also, I'm not trying to make myself sound perfect or anything, I'm just trying to prove that stereotypes are often false.) I do have my moments of being a blonde, but everybody does.

I also have the stereotype of my church. People always assume that the people of my church are the complete opposite of what we are. For example, many people think we baptize dead people. I don't know where it came from, but people believe the false words. Or about the scriptures. We believe in the bible 100%. We read it all the time! We just have more books that we study as well. But people assume that we just flat out don't believe in it.

So, as you can see, stereotypes are everywhere! They can be hard to avoid at times, and they may make you feel upset. The thing is, you can't let them affect you, no matter what they are or what people will say about you with your stereotypes. I don't know why society still believes in all of these things, but it most definitely still takes a toll on people.

My word of advice to you is to show them that they're wrong. Ignore their comments and just be yourself! One day they'll realize that you can't judge books by their covers.

1. "Stereotypes develop and persist because they are useful. They reduce the tremendous complexity of the world around us into a few simple guidelines, which we use in our everyday thoughts and decisions. However, the simpler and more convenient the stereotype, the more likely it is to be inaccurate, at least in part." -Stuart Oskamp

2. "Judge me at first, glance without giving me a chance, stereotype me by how I look or the things I say, and I'll prove you wrong."

3. "There will be haters, doubters, non-believers, and then there will be you, proving them wrong."

4. "I love it when people doubt me. It makes me work harder to prove them wrong." -Derek Jeter

5. "Sometimes I feel like giving up. Then I remember I have a lot of people to prove wrong."
