SPN FINALE RANT
Warning you now: if you don't know the basic gist of what happened during the final three episodes, even better if you've watched it, I wouldn't read this. I haven't seen the episodes yet but I know basically everything except for details so... prepare for a rant because I'm pissed.
They really did us dirty. Look, I'm not a big shipper, I don't ship people but even I could see the chemistry between Cas and Dean, from season 5 and on.
And the way they did this is a queerbaiting attempt in order to try to sate us pisses me off to no end.
So let's start with 15x18, Despair. It was originally titled "The Truth" but was changed last minute. And not to mention Jensen has a recording from on set with how they originally recorded things and has stated he had to record himself crying to dub over something, as well as they cut out a lot of Dean's reaction in the confession scene.
So let's look at this from a writers standpoint. As an angst writer, I can understand the entire point of having him killed (captured by the Empty but, details) right after he confesses this twelve year secret. But why on God's green Earth would you not showcase Dean reciprocating? Dean saying something back, and I get that he was in shock and if you really wanna pack it in, you give him a minute to process everything, by then Cas is gone, and that's when he calls out a whispered reciprocation before breaking into sobs. You DONT just stuck in there and have him not react to that part of what he said, you don't do that, it doesn't make sense.
Anyway, moving into 15x19. As we know, we defeat Chuck in this episode and Jack becomes God, which means while he is alive, we do lose him until they make it to heaven. What upsets me is how supposedly there is hardly ever a mention of Cas and when it is, it's mentioning his death and there doesn't ever seem to be any conversation or even Dean thinking about Cas' confession. But then, Jack becomes God. So why, on Earth, before he leaves would you not ask him to bring Cas back? And sure, Jack does supposedly bring him back but then we don't ever see him after that but I'm getting there.
Finally... 15x20. The finale.
You know the best way to destroy the entire build up you have just set up in the past two episodes? Kill off Dean to a rusty nail and don't give Cas anymore than a mention. From everything I've heard about the finale, literally the only two things I like about it are Miracle, and Dean's point that Cas' sacrifice should mean something.
For one, they completely destroyed all of Dean's arc as a character by killing him on one of the smallest hunts of their entire career, to a goddamn nail. That doesn't fucking make sense! The man has defeated God, he's killed Hitler, he's gone toe-to-toe with angels and he gets taken out by a rusty fucking nail? No, I don't buy that for a single fucking second.
Plus then you negate the entire point you just made and you made Cas' sacrifice meaningless. It didn't matter, nothing would've changed in the end. Also, they had him get a dog, there was a confirmed document on his desk that told us he had just been accepted for a job. He was getting ready to build a life, a happy one where he could know that he could make his own decisions. That he was free to do as he pleased. To live and honor Cas' sacrifice.
Now let's not forget to mention to blatant fucking homophobia on The CW's part. In all of Latin America for the most part, Cas says "Te Amo" to Dean, which if you know your spanish, you'll know can only be used as romantic love, compared to "Te Quierro." And Dean says in return "Y yo a ti" which means "And I, you."
In the spanish dub, Dean reciprocates. So that tells that in the original script, Dean did reply with a "Me too" of some sort otherwise the dub team wouldn't have put it in. Add on the fact that Jensen has been silent on social media for several days now that these facts have blown up and has said what I mentioned before... there's a reason "#theysilencedyou" was trending above the election on Twitter.
They took the chance to confirm their second lead as a queer character and dragged it through the mud before burning it, literally. They had the chance to make television history and they destroyed it. For a company that claims to be completely and all accepting, they sure seem to enjoy silencing their characters.
Plus the weird inconsistency of sticking Sam with some random woman that we never get to meet and a kid he names in honor of his brother, after we know Sam hasn't wanted a normal life since season 8. I just can't see Sam not having Jack bring Dean and Cas back and having a fix it but that would've screwed everything as a weird catch all so it wouldn't have been good either. So I stand by the fact that if we had to have Cas sacrifice himself, Dean should've never died and Jack should've brought Cas back, hell he would've brought him back without having to be asked he loved the man like a father! But then we would've ended it somewhere that made some semblance of sense.
But okay, here's a hypothetical. Say we keep literally everything else the same and we go to the heaven scenes. When Dean decided to take a drive in the Impala, Cas should've popped in and we should've had a reunited scene with the two of them and a happy conclusion in order to wrap up their character arcs. There are so many damn ways to make it make sense and they just didn't.
But it pisses me off that they did this to us, to the show, to these characters, hell, to these actors! No, this is bull! It doesn't rightfully make any sense in the long run...
You can bet your ass if I make it that long, I will make a batter finale than the shit they dealt us. Make my words, because I'm promising it now.
