While that isn't the only bible verse that mentions it, I believe it is the most well known so I'm gonna go with it. There is a story behind this.

People sometimes wonder how I can be a Christian girl who loves my religion in the way I do and I can also so freely support the people of the LGBTQ+ community. Well... this is why.

There have been multiple studies, articles, and other large amounts of research done of this topic so if you wish to fact check me, You can do other research in your own time to be 100% sure as there are several sources stating this.

Before the translation into English was made by the RVS team in 1946, the word "Homosexuality" was never used in biblical verses. In most older European versions, ranging through Greek, Latin, and German, as well as others such as Swedish or Norwegian.

The original word used in the verses of Leviticus, and Corinthian speaking on this topic in our modern English versions, was actually arsenokoitai.

Now, this is the original Greek word. When looking at other language translations, more specifically older versions of those translations across Europe, it seemed to translate to the following.

In the German version, within Leviticus 18:22, where the Elgnish version states "Men shall not lie with men, for it is an abomination" the German directly translated into English by fluent speakers of German, it says this. "Men shall not lie with young boys as he does with women, for it is an abomination."

It is translated similarly in Leviticus 20:13. Then in 1 Corinthians, and rather than Homosexuals, it said "Boy molesters will not inherit the kingdom of God."

This specific translation was from the 1800s and when checking another German translation from the 1500s, it said the same.

These use the word "knabenschander." "Knaben" is boy and "Schander" is molester. This carried through the German translations through several centuries of print. "Knabenschander" is also used in 1 Timothy 1:10.

Well when researching on the word "arsenokoitai" being translated in the German versions, it is seen that the word homosexual does not appear in a German bible until 1983.

In case you are wondering if this seems to be the only case in the German translations, it isn't. When checking a 1674 Swedish translation, and an 1830 Norwegian translation, it says Boy abusers, boy molesters.

Another citation explains why these verses may be specifically referring to this topic.

When you look into arsenokoitai, it gives you the Latin words paedico and praedico, which translate to pedestary, or "Knabenschander."

In case you were wondering what was used in this place for the English versions before the RVS version came out, this is what was used in the King James Version. "Abusers of themselves with mankind."

So... there you go. Again, there's always more reading to do on this topic and I'd actually encourage that for any Christians out there. Do not blindly believe what you have been taught, look into things like this especially when society may put pressure in certain places or the Bible may conflict with any personal beliefs or values you have, as I do.
