Notch x Herobrine

Universe where Notch and Herobrine are a secret couple

Herobrine groaned. He was stuck in a meeting with the rest of the Minecraftian Council for another hour and he was ready to get back to his castle in the Nether.

He looked down at the pile of profiles awaiting his confirmation and sighed. He had always hated paperwork, especially that of the dead. Ferrying the souls themselves was enjoyable on its own, but completing the profiles of every soul he ferried was terribly boring work and took up far too much of his time. He was lucky his brothers were there to help him finish the overwhelming stacks.

He was even luckier that they had learned his system. Damned souls in a stack on the left, blessed souls on the right, completed profiles in the back, waiting profiles in the front. His brothers used to simply put every competed profile in a single stack. He hated disorganization, it was why he always took care of the library in the Aether.

He snuck a glance to his left as he dipped his quill into the ink bottle. Notch sat at the head of the table, reaching for another uncompleted profile. The stack of finished profiles was significantly taller than the incomplete profiles, and Herobrine thanked the Moirai yet again for his  brothers.

Notch turned his head slightly to the right and noticed Herobrine staring at him. He gave Herobrine a small smile. Herobrine ducked his head, hiding his blush. Herobrine moved his eyes back to the profile laying in front of him and quickly flourished his signature on the bottom of the page. He carefully placed the profile on the back right stack and snatched another from the pile in the front.

The pattern continued throughout the meeting. The other gods chatted quietly amongst one another, laughter occasionally rising and falling back to the soft chatter. The scratching of quills and rustle of paper created their own peaceful rhythm for the Creators, lulling them into something kindred of a trance.

Herobrine's hand hovered over one of the stacks of unfinished profiles as a grandfather clock chimed. He sighed in relief, the meeting was over and he could return to the Nether. He swiftly placed the four stacks of profiles into their corresponding files for easy transport to the library in the Aether. He turned to leave when a hand suddenly was upon his shoulder.

"Walk with me?" Notch asked softly, watching the others exit the room to return to their duties. Herobrine nodded and handed off a couple of files to Notch. They were the last to leave the room, and Notch locked the door behind them after giving one final sweep of the table for any remaining objects the others may have left behind.

The two walked down the corridor together. Herobrine gazed at the elder Creator out of the corner of his eye. Notch appeared to be lost in his  thoughts, walking as though he were on autopilot.

"I know what you are doing Hero," he announced suddenly. "You are not all that subtle, you should know this by now."

Herobrine's eyes widened as he turned fully toward Notch, cheeks burning. Notch simply chuckled and held the door to the library. Herobrine ducked under Notch's arm and entered.

The library was definitely one of his favorite places in the Aether to visit. The ceiling reached a great height, and the bookshelves appeared to be as high as the ceiling itself. Rows upon rows of bookshelves filled the great room, every shelf filled to the brim with books. One isolated corner of the library held a small table, a few chairs, and an unlit fireplace. Herobrine loved to spend hours in a chair by the fire, reading one of hundreds of thousands of books he had collected from mortals over the few millennia his universe had been alive.

Herobrine followed Notch to a large filing cabinet near the fireplace. Two of the files would stay here, the other two would be brought down to the Nether for Herobrine to finish at a later date. Herobrine was placing one of his files into the cabinet when Notch grabbed his hand. Herobrine looked up and squeaked as Notch's lips fell upon his. He closed his eyes and melted into the kiss, wrapping his arms around Notch's neck. He purred even as Notch pulled away.

"Stay here, Hero," Notch whispered. "Come and live in the Aether again."

Herobrine held back a gasp and stepped back. The last time he had fully lived in the Aether was before the battle of the Sins and Virtues, decades before Jeb was created.

"I can't..."

"Why not?" Notch asked sadly. "You can still visit the Nether, you would just stay the night here instead. You would stay with me..."

"But what about the mortals?" Herobrine said softly. "What would they think?" Don't cry now Hero, it was so long ago.

"I... I can grant you a pardon," Notch said desperately. "I can explain that you are not the demon they think you are."

"Notch..."

"We can be together again! You could go in public without fear of being persecuted. We-"

"I can't... I can't risk you getting hurt again because of me."

Notch stopped and looked at his lover. Herobrine's eyes were full of tears and he was pulling his cloak around him. He looked so vulnerable, as if the weakest comment would tear him apart.

"I nearly killed you back then."

"That was not you. The Sins had possessed you."

"But they used my body," Herobrine cried. "I was forced to watch as my own hands tried to kill you. And the mortals... They saw me trying to kill you, and the Virtues used you to call for help, to stop me from leaving, to kill me. The god of justice they had once known had transformed into the god of death, a devil in their eyes, nothing more than another monster to be put down." Herobrine took a deep breath. "The rumors spread too quickly for us to stop them, I had become the enemy. If our relationship were to be known, I fear you may be the next to be hunted down."

Notch pulled his crying lover into a hug and stroked his hair. Herobrine buried his face into Notch's brown cloak, breathing in the sweet signature scent of an Aetherian. The aroma always calmed him down, almost like a sedative. Herobrine sniffed and leaned into Notch's embrace. Even if it was for a moment, nothing else mattered to him. It was just him and his lover, hiding in the shadows of the cruel world neglected from the truth by its own Creators.

Remember Kayla/Malaika from the S2 oneshot? She's one of Ash's love interests. Ash really likes her, and he would have gone for her if he and Cloud weren't already half lovers. Just saying. She likes him too. So you'll see a lot of her. (Wow this was totally off topic from the oneshot lol)

Also fun fact, the Aetherian accent will remind you a lot of a British accent (vowels are very similar). They also roll their r's (which I actually can't do ;-;).
