Brine Senses

Brines have more sensitive senses than humans, hearing and smelling in particular.

They have a much better hearing range than us. Scientists have even considered the possibility that Brines have a larger hearing range than dogs! This is an evolutionary trait to allow for better hunting and to quickly locate a missing kit* through his/her high pitched cries for help. Loud noises distress Brines and may even damage their hearing, so keep the volume down on that television. Dog whistles are torture so it is best that you not use one near Brines. They may think that a kit is nearby.

Brines have exceptional olfaction**. This is how most Brines can detect an individual's species quickly (Aetherians smell like clouds, Brines smell like fire or smoke, demons smell like sulfur, Shadows smell like, well, nothing). Brines use their heightened sense of smell during hunts, normally to track down the hunting party that has successfully taken down prey. Some speculate that Brines follow the heartbeat of their prey (false, Brines aren't that good at listening).

Brines have a slight increase in their vision compared to humans. This allows them to sense quick motion in their environment for hunts or battles. Their vision also allows them to see in the dark as the pupil can dilate more than a human's. Shining a light into a Brine's eyes will reflect yellow in the pupils.

So do y'all realize that Brines are almost exactly like cats sometimes? Found this when I was researching senses in dogs xD

*Kit: a young Brine, usually between zero and twelve years of age

**Olfaction: the action or capacity of smelling; the sense of smell

Next up: How to Care for a Young Brine (cause these kits are some of the cutest and most dangerous babies you will ever see)
