Discovering the Wonder of Beaches

(A/N: So I had to write this "Show, not Tell: Descriptive Piece" for English and it turned out pretty decent. :) I just randomly decided to put it on here to show you guys. This piece is what I call, 'Discovering the Wonder of Beaches'. Enjoy!)

She stepped out onto the beach and slipped out of her sandals, yearning to feel the grainy texture slipping between her toes, warming them up. The sand complied to her wishes, and she sighed contentedly, the hot sand at her toes, the cool breeze at her neck. The mellow breeze threaded between the strands of her hair, tossing them around like a child would throw his playthings. Only this breeze was more gentle, lifting her hair this way and that.

Today, no vehicles roared to life and rumbled along the shoreside. Today, no shouting children were in the waters or shore. It was only the girl, the waves, and the seagulls. The seagulls with their loud calls somehow stifled by this particular day. The subdued seagull caws just added to the quiet day at the beach. The only sounds were the waves, the seagulls, and the trees. The palm trees rustling in the cool breeze, their large leaves swaying to and fro as they set the girl in a short silent trance.

She broke the silence and laughed in happiness, and took off her shirt, revealing her swimwear, and soon after waded into the cool water. Today the waves were softly turning around and around, barely carrying the girl before she was deposited into the water again. The sun warmed the surface of the water, making the girl feel a bit drowsy.

The girl revived from her grogginess and noticed scattered lumps of rocks here and there dotted the shoreside, adding to the terrain of the beach. The waves gently enveloped the shoreline from her view for a couple heartbeats, then receded back into the deep aqua of the sea. The girl, much to her delight, noticed seashells, released from the clutches of the waves. The colorful seashells now dotted the landscape along with the rocks and trees, and the girl silently stared at the scene for a while, until the next batch of waves swept the seashells away.

The girl started, surprised that the waves would take away the exotic seashells. But her shock soon ended when she observed that a new group of seashells now dotted the shore. The girl laughed again and ran out of the waves, kicking up little streams of water behind her. The droplets sprayed her neck and the girl laughed again in wonderment.

Soon, the girl was back on the sand, and it warmed up her toes once again. She sifted the fine grains through her fingers letting it pour onto her exposed belly. Soon, a small hill of sand rested upon her belly, rising and falling with each breath.

The girl laid sprawled out on the warm sand, the coziness and beach sounds bringing her closer and closer to sleep with each heartbeat. Finally, her eyes fluttered closed and light snores in tune to the breeze began emanating from her relaxed body.

A familiar voice awakened her from her slumber, seeking the girl out by name. The girl propped herself up on one arm, gazing at the direction from where the voice came. She sighed thinking of the day that was awaiting her, for it was another day of work with no rest, and no relaxation. For dawn at the beach was her only escape.

(A/N: How did you like it? Now that I re-read this, I just realized that this is really bad. Sorry for making you suffer from reading this. :/

But I kinda like the plot. Maybe one day I'll make a book out of this and get it published and earn thousands of dollars. That can happen out of an English essay, you know. XD

Oh, and I named the girl Madeline.)

(A/N #2: I did some minor edits to the story, so I edited it on here as well. )
