Getting to Book 2
A slow process when getting essentially cock blocked by the writing of Book 4
and not wanting to screw things up in my head
*Growls*
Something about me; I really dislike working on more than one book at once, it splits my focus and my time.
One thing that needs to be done for Book 2; Lost in the Shadows to be uploaded is, I need to go through and shorten/reshape the manuscript chapters into WP sized chapters. Doesn't sound like a big deal, right?
Wrong!
In order to split them effectively so they aren't a giant mess, I have to actually read through the book again to judge where good cut-off spots would be while remaining within my word count perimeters. This of course means, jumbling past events from Book 2 with occurring issues going on in Book 4 in my brain.
While it may not seem like a big deal, it throws me off when I get back to writing Book 4 as all I can think about is Book 2.
So why not just quickly do Book 2 then get back to Book 4?
Well, you see, something like this happened before while I was writing Book 3. I had gone back for some reason or another and when I went back to what working on Book 3, my train of thought, my writing groove, my muse, whatever you want to call it, was gone. I had completely lost my place on what and where I was going - even with my mountains of notes.
I had my outlines, the bony structure of what was to happen, but the filler was all gone. The emotional flow that I had going had abruptly stopped since I had been taken away from it for so long. Even reading it from the beginning to where I left off, it took a couple of weeks to get back on track.
Since it's taking me so long to get anywhere with Book 4 now, I don't want to chance that happening and my completely dropping it. I love this series, I love my characters, but there's been a lot of behind the scenes crap going on that's really pushing my resolve of not making some major changes that would pretty much change the face of the whole series.
Anyway, onto the less dire sounding part of this chapter ~
This is what I have to do to get Book 2 ready and uploaded onto WP:
1. Read through manuscript chapters to get them split into smaller chapters for wordcount restrictions here (Selfmade for short attention spans & mobile readers) ✔
2. Come up with titles for each chapter ✔
3. Chapter banners made ✔
4. Titles put onto apropos banners ✔
5. Assorted graphics made ✔
6. Cover made ✔
7. Chapters uploaded onto WP (Won't have to worry about Grammarly bogging everything down since it had to be uninstalled for space from crappy laptop)
> Each POV section is done at a time ✔
> Upgraded computer ✔
8. Intermissions written up at POV changes
> Each gets written up as needed
9. Acknowledgements page written up/put in ✔
- Combine w/AN & Copywrite to cut down on pages ✔
10. Character list uploaded
- Written up ✔
- Snippets put in
11. Probably won't be able to have too many extra pages as Book 2 is longer than Book 1, therefore more than likely more chapters
12. Insert?
13. Additional notes written in ✔
(These don't get put in till the chapter itself is, as then I know what each note is in the first place)
> Done for first part to see how it would do with readers; didn't do as well as hoped. Any additional notes will be kept for 'Extra Info' page at end of book & website
