Chapter 19: U.A Sports Festival- Quarter Finals

Shinso’s opinion of Endeavour was conflicting to say the least. On the one hand,  he was the number two hero for a reason; he did his job extremely well. Yet that was the problem, he did it no matter the cost to his surroundings, whether it be material or mortal. Zomu-Sensei told him the many stories of him having to protect others during Endeavour’s many crusades against villany, only to be chased by the fire-quirk user immediately following the fight. To him, vigilante and villain were one-in-the-same.

So to be going against his son was nerve-racking, if only slightly. Would he be the same as his father, just as unfeeling? Though just by observing their relationship (if you can even call it that), it was like how a master treats his dog, only the dog disobeys at every turn. Going off of how others were speaking of him, he was gifted by two seperate quirks, fire and ice yet for some reason unbeknownst to all but Shoto himself, he refused to use that fire side of him. Shinso paid it no mind, whatever reason it may be, it was not his job to pry, so he was not going to. Besides, a weaker opponent usually means an easier fight, right?

“Here's the match y'all are looking forward to: The calm and collected son of the number two hero! From the Hero course it’s Shoto Todoroki!” Present Mic exclaimed, hyping up the crowd.

“Versus- The Shooting star that just keeps on going! From General Studies it’s Hitoshi Shinso!”

Eager cheers from people of both sides signaled that this, no matter the outcome, was going to be the talk of the town for weeks to come. Each opponent was equally matched, yet opposite in how they got this far. Shoto practically relied on his quirk to win, due to it's sheer power and versatility whereas Shinso, who had only used his quirk briefly once, made up for it with unparalleled fighting ability. But his techniques almost look as if he was trained ,for his attacks were seemingly too precise to be a natural gift. Nevertheless, this clash of body vs quirk was sure to be interesting.

Then came the match itself.

After being given the go-ahead, The purple haired insomniac rushed at Todoroki, who responded with a torrent of ice shooting toward him. However just as quickly did the ice was formed, it was smashed apart by a well-timed slash from Shinso. You see, he had retained his armoured gloves as support gear from the previous events, which proved just enough to shatter a portion of the barrier of ice that swiftly approached, only enough for him to leap through. Unfazed, Shoto continued to send barrage upon barrage of ice, each time ending the same as the last, resulting in Shinso slowly but steadily advancing toward the former’s position.

Then as Shinso finally reached him, rearing for a triumphant punch, something snapped within Todoroki. Unfortunately the former only realised this change when he felt something cold pierce his flesh.

In what appeared to be purely instinctual, his quirk activated shooting spiked icicles in all immediate directions, impaling Shinso in the abdomen. This ,shockingly enough, didn't prevent his attack as his fist collided with Shoto's face, sending him out of bounds, making the wounded Shinso the winner. The crowds roared with delight and satisfaction at another tense match.

Until the victor lost consciousness.

Medic bots rushed out, frantically yet carefully loading Shinso onto a stretcher and carting him off to the infirmary. He was quickly losing blood, and the match had exhausted him to where Recovery Girl's work was useless, especially considering the student was unconscious.

Doctors soon got to work, removing the large shard of ice with extreme precision; they couldn't risk any more harm done than what was present. After much difficulty, they successfully removed the spike, now was time to deal with the wound itself. The wound was a near-perfect circular hole (several inches in diameter) going straight through his central abdomen, it was a miracle it hadn't harmed any vital organs than the location of it implied. In fact, they managed to stitch up most of the damage in only a few hours.

'Where… where am I?' Shinso thought.
Later thing he remembered was the end result of his fight against Todoroki. Now he found himself in a hospital room, connected to an assortment of medical machinery. Looking down, Shinso realised why such machines were needed: a dozen or so bandages were wrapped around his stomach area.

It was during this reveal that Recovery Girl appeared through the door. First berating him on his reckless actions before telling him that, since his injury was easily repaired (as to how he's even alive Shinso certainly didn't know and simply wasn't in a position to question it), he can return to the tournament after some healing up from her quirk

He later learned that whilst he was being operated on, the remaining matches of the second round had played out, many of which Shinso was not surprised by their outcome. First was Iida against the overtly religious Shiozaki, which ended in him pushing her straight out of bounds the first chance he got. Next came the acid quirk user against the Yaoyorozu girl, which inevitably involved the latter easily tripping up the former with a staff. Finally there was Bakugou versus the hardening quirk user from the last round's mirror match. This, akin to that fight was a drawn out mess yet like a tide against a cliff, Kirishima yielded.

Shinso was also informed that there was much debate on whether or not he should be participating due to the initial severity of his injury, but alas here he was. The Semi finals were imminent, and Shinso at this point was more than ready to embrace it head on.
