Sixteen

Dan's POV

When Dan woke up again, he thought that everything was back to normal. Him and Phil were still talking, PJ wasn't messing with his feelings, all of the drama in general was gone. But of course, reality set in.

He'd been sleeping quite a lot these days. Usually, he got about 4 or 5 hours, but lately, he'd been out for 7 to 8 hours at a time. It was actually nice, waking up and not wanting to immediately go back to bed. Not having any bags under his eyes, no headaches.

Looking at his phone screen, he groaned. It was 2 o'clock in the morning. He was starting to resort back to his old ways. And he didn't have anything to do to pass that time. Before meeting Phil, he'd just stayed inside all night, wasting away in front if his computer screen. And 'exploring' London.

That was perfect. He hasn't been to that coffee shop in some time, maybe he'd go and drop by. It would also help to distract him from thoughts of Phil and PJ. Even if that was where he had first met Phil. He'd made up his mind. He got dressed, pulling on some clothes and quickly brushing his hair that was sticking up slightly. After grabbing his phone and keys, he walked out the front door and out into the dark and empty streets.

  Chris's POV

PJ had been acting weird lately, and Chris was a bit worried.

After the awkward confession session, they had only seen each other a few times, and only spoken about twice. Chris understood partly, seeing as they could barely look to each other without blushing fiercely and quickly looking away. But even PJ got over the most tense of situations, and seeing as he hadn't gotten over this yet, Chris knew that something big was going on.

He walked around, always deep in thought. His eyes always seemed to be far away, as did his attention. He didn't pay attention to anything for too long, and Chris usually had to call his name a few times to drag him back to the real world.

Chris thought it most likely had something to do with Dan.

After Chris had rejected him, he'd been spending way too much time with Dan, and lately, he'd been hanging around more, but that look was in his eyes.

  It had to be Dan.

Did PJ like Dan? PJ had told him he had feelings for Chris, but maybe he was second guessing. Chris definitely had feelings for PJ, and if he didn't feel the same way anymore, years if his life, 4 to be exact, would have been a waste.

Dan's POV

Dan rounded the corner, right down the street from the cafe. He was actually happy that he was going here. It had been a while, and he was looking forward to just spending mindless hours in the warm shop, just sitting and not being a bother to anyone else.

As soon as he walked in the door, he knew he had made a terrible mistake.

Phil sat in the very back of the shop, a cup of steaming coffee in front of him and a book resting open on the table with his head bent over it. He was so engrossed known the words that he hadn't even noticed someone else was in the shop. Dan took this time to really look at Phil since he'd last seen him, at 4 am yesterday. He looked extremely pale, more so than usual, and he had slight bags under his eyes, showing he hadn't gotten much sleep.

As if he sensed Dan thinking about him, Phil looked up suddenly and locked eyes with Dan. They stared at each other for a moment, then Phil smiled at him softly. Dan breathed a sigh of relief. At least he didn't seem mad anymore. Cautiously, he made his wages through the other chairs and tables, and sat across from Phil.

"Hey there." Phil said, his voice slightly scratchy. Dan smiled widely.

"Hey yourself." There was a silence, then Dan burst out. "Phil, Christ, I'm so sorry, I've ruined everything. I just, I didn't know what I was thinking, my mind was all crazy. I didn't mean to snap like that. Can we just... forget about it, please? I'm... sorry."

Phil reached over and rested his hand on Dan's arm, still grinning. "Don't worry about it, Dan, seriously. Besides, I shouldn't have tried to press you like that, I should have just minded my own business."

"I'm not gonna blame you for worrying, Phil, I was over reacting. I'm sorry."

Phil laughed loudly. "We're not gonna settle this any time soon. Let's just say we're both sorry, okay?" Dan laughed and agreed.

"So what are you reading?" Dan asked, picking up the book that was sitting on the table between them. "Shiver?" he read off of the cover.

"Yeah." Phil nodded and instantly went off into an explanation about the book, something about wolves and winter. Dan tuned out though, rather, watching Phil as he excitedly talked about the story, the way his eyes lit up and that smile never left his face. He was glad that they had worked things out between them.

"Are you even paying attention, Dan?" Phil asked, a smirk on that pretty face if his.

  "Yeah, sorry, just... thinking."

"What about? You just always seem like you're thinking about the most interesting things. It makes me curious what goes on up in your head."

He couldn't exactly tell Phil that he was obsessing over him, so he had to come up with something.

"Uh, just... you know the Chris and PJ thing? Yeah, um, their not exactly going well and, yeah, I was just thinking that it's a shame, really. They'd be great together."

"I haven't even heard from either of them in the last couple of days." Phil said. He laughed, but Dan could tell it was forced, and he knew why. Chris and PJ had been Phil's best friends before Dan had come in, and now he barely spoke to them. It must have been pretty hard, having to go through all this.

For the next half hour, things were back to normal, just them talking and laughing, joking around. Dan had really missed this, being in Phil's company. Honestly, it had torn him apart inside that he might never get to see him again.

"Can we go back to yours?" Phil asked, snapping Dan back into now. "It's just, I left my clothes over from last time, and I don't have any plans for tonight. I'm too wired to go to sleep."

"Yeah, of course. We could watch a film or something."

"We always watch films." Phil said, laughing, and Dan joined in.

"Hey, it's not like there's anything else to do at 3 am."

  "That's true."

They got up and left, heading back over to Dan's flat. Along the way, they continued to talk, catching up on the things they had missed while not speaking to one another. At one point, their hands brushed against each other, and Dan got that flutter in his stomach again, making him blush and look at the ground. He wanted to grab Phil's hand and hold it tight, feel the warmth his fingers twined with his own. But he couldn't, because he knew that Phil didn't want it.

They reached the door of Dan's flat about twenty minutes later. It usually wasn't such a long journey, but they had stopped numerous times because they were laughing too hard to continue walking. Dan unlocked the door and stepped into the dark room, quickly flipping on all the lights as he walked through. Phil was behind him, and he made his way into the  living room while Dan went to his room to change.

"That night, before our... fight," Phil said when Dan had joined him. "Was all that true? I mean, you being terrified of the dark."

Dan blushed deeply. He had remembered that? It made him slightly happy that Phil had recalled this detail of their night together, but also embarrassed that he had recalled that detail of their night together.

"Er, yeah, it was all true. Ever since I was about fifteen. It sucks, really."

Phil smiled reassuringly at him. "It's alright. And thanks, For telling me, that must be very hard to just tell someone."

Dan looked over at him, and just stared, at those blue, blue eyes, the soft lips, pale skin that was lightly flushed. And he couldn't take it anymore. He was going to regret it, he knew, but that didn't matter right now.

Swiftly, so he wouldn't chicken out, he grabbed Phil by the neck and pushed his lips against Phil's warm, soft ones.
