Last Stand
Canada Eureka in Nunavut.... 5 hours earlier.
June woke up with ice cold water being dumped on her head. Cuts and bruises littered her body and blood from a noise bleed had dried up leaving its mark under her noise. She was definitely in a warehouse of some sort, why do bad guys like these places so much it was so cliche of them. Not to mention the cost and how big it was easily able to get taken over. Someone might even spot it with satellites. A tiny house would have been better especially one built off grid that no one knew of or even and ungrounded bunker.
"Good morning, how did you sleep?" A man asked making her smile a bit.
The man was wearing a suit and tie, looked like he was an official of some sort. By his accent he was Russian, he had short brown hair and thick beard with a mustache. There were three other guys with him to with guns making her uneasy but she remained calm.
"Like a rock, if I remember correctly there were nine of your people at my apartment. Now there is only three...," she smiled as the man looked at her annoyed.
"You killed six of my men, I wasn't expecting much of a fight from a tiny little girl such as yourself," he said coldly.
"I have anger problems, promise I will take anger management classes," she responded.
"Where is the computer chip you stole from me?" He asked.
"I have no idea what your talking about, I will take a lie detector test if that will make you feel better. I seriously don't know what you're talking about. I just woke up to a bunch of guys in my apartment! Sorry I killed your men but I was defending myself!" She said as the man took out a knife and held it against her throat.
"You can speak to animals and a rat stole the chip. It ended up in your apartment so tell us where we can find it. We know you are dating a member of the Justice League Kid flash. He probably asked you to take it. We want to know everything you know about us. If you lie well let's just say he is going to be very horrified to have a disfigured girlfriend. Oddly enough you don't even look old enough to be dating him. Must be why he likes you," he informed as he touched the necklace that Garfield gave her with his knife making her look away.
"You two must have been dating a long time this is expensive for a boy to buy if he was working at a fast food place," he said as she glared at him.
Thankfully, she knew where he worked but that was also a bad thing. She new where everyone worked and worst of all she knew all of there real names. She had to get out of here fast but how was she going to do that. Killing those people felt like it wasn't even her doing. One second she was in the kitchen the next she had a knife then six people were dead. She couldn't belive she had that in her. All of those people, she was going to need to see a psychologist about what was going on. She wasn't feeling right in the head. Maybe they hit her to hard and it triggered something.
"I'm not dating him, we are friends he saved my life and I got this myself," she informed trying to be convincing.
"Well either way he is going to find you dead and in pieces. Tell me how you knew our were abouts!" He yelled as he grabbed her hair and pulled it back.
She started to fight against the rope until it started to burn her skin. Her eyes locked with the man and she spat in his face making him let go of her.
"You disgraceful bitch!" He growled.
"I told you I don't know anything about your stupid computer chip!" She yelled.
"Take her out back and shot her. I want her head sent to the Zoo she works at. That will send a message to those so called hero's not to mess with us again," he stated as all three guys put there guys away and went to grab her.
She quickly got lose and pushed a guy in the face so hard his noise broke she used the chair she was sitting in and bashed it over the head of the second guy and for the third guy she kicked him in the nuts and then slammed his face in her knee knocking him out. Leaving only one guy left.
"Never underestimate the nice girl, just because I'm nice doesn't mean I won't kick your ass!" She growled as the the leader went after her with a knife and she caught his arm and snapped it in half making him scream and go down to his knees. She grabbed his head and slammed into the ground hard until he passed out and two more times for good measure.
"Note to self take anger management classes," she said as she headed to the big doors and opened it.
June was not dressed for this weather at all. A tank top and shorts no shoes or socks while it was snowing outside spelled out disaster. She took a pair of shoes and a jacket from one of the guards but that wasn't going to help her much since it had to be 32 degrees or less. Conveniently there was a thermometer and to her horror it was negative three degrees outside and it probably was going to get even colder.
"Please find me Tim. I know you can do it," she said as she heard yelling and heard gun fire.
"Get the girl!" A man shouted as she took off running. She had no idea where she was but it looked like she was in a forest.
If she was in Russia she could be a wanted fugitive if Milo took something he wasn't supposed to but these guys didn't seem like police more or less like a gang or something way worse. She zigzaged threw trees and opened area and made sure she didn't look back. She could hear them yelling off in the distance and gun fire. Bullets flew past her head and she jumped over a fallen log and quickly saw a frozen pond that looked more like a lake then anything else. She couldn't just run around it because snow and trees were there and who knows if there was any animal traps laying around there.
"Okay June run like a rabbit, think rabbit light but fast!" She said to herself as she took off running on the ice. People were yelling and shooting at her frantically.
"Shoot the ice!" A man ordered as the ice started cracking under her feet and as soon as she heard the order to shoot the ice she ducked and slid across the rest until she got to the other side. She got up and took off running again as fast as she could. She took off the jacket to blend in more with the surrounding area.
She couldn't hear them anymore as she continued to run hard threw the forest but then she tripped. She tried to get up but her body refused to let her get up and then she realized how cold she was. The wind was howling and the snow picked up more almost making it impossible to see fifteen feet in front of her.
"Come on June don't pass out now! People are looking for you, Tim, Garfield, Megan, Roy. Even Artemis is looking for you, you need to get up!" She said as she tried but her body was to cold as she felt like passing out.
"If you fall asleep in the snow you won't wake up, come on! You don't want Tim to see his first dead body do you?! He's a baby compared to everyone else! Get up! Come on it isn't hard!" She growled as she tried again but she couldn't do it.
"You have people that love you now, actual human beings and even an alien that love you. Animals that need and want you around, you have a family. A real family... come on get up for them please! You have to keep moving," she said as tears started to run down her face.
She couldn't feel her legs or hands knowing fully well frost bite was going to set in. Her close had froze to her and she was in the middle of a forest! By the time Tim found her she was going to be buried under snow and dead. She had something to live for. Something she never really ever had. If it wasn't for Milo she would have died years ago. She met Garfield in one of the lowest points in her life and he met him at his worst.
Garfield's biggest fear was someone dying that was close to him and not coming back. He lost his mom, wally, Artemis, and Conner, but they all came back. She wasn't going to come back she was actually going to die alone in the woods.
"Please give me one more chance, I know I asked you to kill me before but this time I want to live. I need to live I actually have everything I ever wanted. People and animals that treat me like I'm worth something other then a punching bag and a food source to them. Just think warm thoughts... think like a bear. Just think warm thoughts... if anything this is just going to be a long hibernation, when you wake up it will be warm again just wait and see" she said softly as she passed out in the snow.
"Has June moved at all?" Wally asked as Tim was staring at the screen.
"No... she hasn't moved in hours," he said softly.
Making Garfield almost burst into tears. The people that had her could have shot her and left her there maybe they even buried her there in a shallow grave.
"Hey, I know it doesn't look good but June is June. She probably talked to some animals and they are sleeping on top of her. You have got to have Hope that she is okay," Megan said softly.
"I started therapy because she asked me to, she wanted me to stay over so we could talk when I needed it and feel safe. I said no that I was fine. That I didn't need that last night. Now she's gone Megan. The only thing she asked me to to do was spend one night but I didn't do it because I didn't want you guys thinking that I slept with her. I was so worried about that and she is gone because I was insure and I wanted to show her that I had it under control. She just asked me to do one thing, one simple thing. I don't it before in the last two weeks but the one time I didn't..." he paused as the weather radar sounded.
"The snow started picking up... everyone got thermal blankets and fairs?" Dick asked.
"Yeah," Conner said as he saw the temperature was negative six now.
June hadn't moved in hours meaning she probably passed out in the snow and died or something worse.
"It wasn't your fault... you know how June is. She always worries about her friends, she even has an open door policy for all of us. If we ever need a safe place to go she let us know where to find a key.
"Okay guys were here let's get moving June may have dropped the chip so we need to be on the look out for anything colorful that doesn't resemble any of the surrounding area and... watch your step it's been snowing so she may have gotten covered up by the snow..." Dock said as Tim sighed with a slight tremble.
They got out and it was dark wolves howled and the wind was howling to. They all got there flashlights out and the thermal radar wasn't going to pick up much but the snow. They all split up to cover more ground just incase she did drop her necklace or the chip and after getting to the spot where the chip said she was at Roy froze in his place.
He could see a hand sticking up out of the snow and he closed his eyes slowly. He tried to hold in his tears knowing it was June laying there dead in the snow. He was going to call it in but he wanted to be a hundred percent sure it was her before he just said he found her. He went closer and uncovered her body that had gotten buried under the snow.
"I'm so sorry we didn't get here fast enough June," he said softly as he sat down next to her body.
Tears filled his eyes as he touched her but oddly enough she was warm to the touch. Well that wasn't right she had been laying in the snow for nine hours she should be frozen stiff. He paused as he checked for a pulse and to his horror and surprise she had one. It was weak but it was there.
"Oh my fucking God! June you are fucking amazing! Guys I found her! She's fucking alive!" Roy yelled in shock as he wrapped her up in a thermal blanket and took off his coat and wrapped her up in it.
"Say that again?!" Dick said as Tim was shocked.
"She is alive and oddly enough she's warm which shouldn't be possible. She was buried under the snow!" Roy said as he he quickly headed back to the ship with her.
"No fucking way could she have done that!" Tim said as he bolted to the ship.
"She is definitely not a normal human," Kaldur'ahm informed knowing dame well they should have found her dead.
So what exactly kept her alive?
