The car ride to the city was long, dreadful and silent.Yes, I was excited to meet new people and leave the idiots of my classes to find people I could relate to but after seeing how heartbroken Ashely was when I left just killed my entire vibe.We crossed a few bridges and bumped on a couple highways and soon we were parking at the entrance of the most pretentious Boarding school in the city.
Ivy Boarding School is a HighSchool where "Knowledge Conquers All" according to the brochure. The school was enormously popular with troublesome children ages 13 plus. The things I've heard about this place haven't been good.
"They'll crush your spirit!" Kartini said earlier today."Angelo was forced there and he came back like he was some innocent religious virgin" she explained.Angelo her brother was a bigger pain in the ass than I was so when their parents threw him into Ivy it definitely took the attitude out of his smart mouth forever.I think he's still traumatized...
But I was stronger than Angelo.I wasn't going to let anyone in there break me, I'm stubborn, arrogant and naughty and I'm going to stay like that no matter who tried to change it because it couldn't be changed.
I sighed unbuckled myself and grasped the car door handle and pushed it widely.I sat in my seat and moved my feet onto the crushed gravel below.
"What're you waiting for?!" My mother snapped. She was already out of the car, her keys in hand along with my transfer paperwork.I pushed myself to stand up and exit the car, I shut its door to hear the sound of it slamming as I walked around the car to my mother.
"Hurry up" she ordered and pressed the lock button on her car keys.I heard the beep of the car when she pressed, it was amazing that I was never going to be in that car again.
I crushed gravel with my long boot's heels and it's satisfying sound made me feel better.I followed my mother to the school entrance and I watched the Sun set into a blue orange and purple sky.
Ivy Boarding School has the exterior of a medieval castle. It's built up was meant to hold at least 500 dorms for two students each.It held a 6 feet deep pool on the last floor and a 20,000$ worth of equipment in their gym.The interior of the school was even better than I expected. How could someone be scared to be in such a gorgeous environment?Everything was bigger and greater than at Beacon Park.I couldn't even compare the two because they weren't at all similar.
"Hello, I'm Jaycee Cruise I've come to transfer my daughter here I have a meeting with the headmaster." She says to the middle-aged white woman at the front desk glaring at me, for some reason she reminded me of Kathy Bates.I then cross my arms and huff acting like I didn't want to be here.
"Yes, our Headmaster Dean Clark will be with you in just a moment," the woman says typing something into her thousand-year-old computer.Even though this place was the definition of glamor it was so not modern. Maybe it was because it was established in the 1900's?
I leaned on the school's entrance doors by putting my left foot on the wall in laziness."I'll come back for you once you've learned how to be obedient." My mother whispered loudly.
"Just leave me in a ditch while you're at it too," I comment and she grabbed my arm digging her nails through my sleeve leaving marks into my tan skin.
"Shit like that! Is the reason you're here Aerona! I've had enough of you and—!"
"Aerona Crusie?" My mother was interrupted by a man I'd only guess was the headmaster.
My mother and I were both taken by storm as our brown eyes both locked into his.My mother slowly lost grip on my arm when she flipped her hair and faced him.
He made my mouth water and for some reason, I couldn't get off the wall.My mouth hung open at the sight of his broad sculpted shoulders and his muscular arms that showed every part from the pressure of his tight suit.He looked as professional as he could be and it was so sexy. His lips formed into a smirk as he walked over to my body which was still glued to the wall. The closer he got the more intimidated and breathless I grew, he had to be at least 6 feet tall and it threw me off so much that I could barely speak.
"Aerona Cruise I presume?Welcome to Ivy boarding school." I was lost for words so I just mouthed "thank you" and my mother glared at me thinking I did that to be rude. She's such a hypocrite because if she were in my position right now she'd cheat on my father within a second.
"Jaycee Cruise" my mother pushed herself in front of me stuck out her hand for him to shake. He looked at her hand and back at her and then shook her hand with a firm grip on it.
"Dean Clark.I am this school Headmaster and I strive to make your daughters stay here as comfortable as possible."
My mother glares at me and turned back to Dean."Thank you but I don't need you to make her feel comfortable.I want you to fix her attitude and bring her back to me as an obedient and insightful child!" My mother snaps with crossing her arms against her chest.
He sighs and takes a look back to me, all I could do was blink gapingly."Would you follow me to my office?"
My mother nods and pulls me off the wall by the arm and forces me to follow him behind the front desk and into his office. The office was as big as the parking lot outside. There were motivational posters on the wall along with trophies of accomplishments. The room was dimly lit so when I sat on the armed couch chair in front of his desk I didn't realize there was some other kid in the office with us.
I gasped when I saw his face peek from out of the corner from where he was sitting."Ugh Maddox go to the canteen for dinner I'm finished with you for now!"
"Whatever Boss, I'll be back tomorrow!" He waved Dean off and winked at me at the doorway when he left.I slouched into my chair and my mother hit my arm as soon as I did which meant to sit up straight.
"What seems to be the issue here Mrs. Cruise?" Dean asked pressing his back against his warm-looking burgundy cushioned chair with wheels.
"The issues is that I'm living with a disrespect, disobedient little tramp with a drinking problem and I'm losing hairs every day because of it! I want you to fix her attitude and bring her back to me an angel of the lord, I expect nothing less!" She commands.
Dean played with the ends of a pen he had grasped from his desk and sighs at my mother's request."I don't even—" I stopped myself because I would've gotten a worse punishment than I was already being given.
"Mrs. Cruise...Ivy is not boot camp.We aren't going to force you're to change who they want to be.We are here to teach them how to pick a better mature life than the one they're currently living.Take Maddox, for instance, he's been a pain in my ass since last year but our staff as broken him out down into an improvement of when he first stepped foot in this place.I assure you we will bring Aerona here to be a mature respect young lady of the lord as you wish but we will not force her to change if she wants to." He finished.
I adored his guy already, he was definitely respectful of my wishes and he doesn't even know what they are.
"How exactly do things run here Clark?" my mother asked fumbling with her transfer papers as if she was having second thoughts.
"Things here are run smoothly and you have nothing to worry about. Now I suggest you hand over the paperwork and let Aerona now be in our care." He states while standing up and wiping his palms on his suit pants.
My mother place the paperwork on his document filled desk.My mother kissed my cheek and whispered into my ear "Behave".She pressed my shoulder and walked out of the office but not without looking back and giving a weak smile. You could see that she didn't think it would come to this, but it's only because she felt bad because she knew that I knew she didn't want me, no one did.
"She's an angsty one ain't she?" Dean asks.I didn't answer because the question was rhetorical and I could tell I was already going to piss this man off later during the year so I decided to give him a break the first day.
"So Aerona, tomorrow you officially start your classes. You must be awake by seven every morning and lights will be out by ten every night.Your new classmates are in the canteen for dinner right about now upstairs and I'm going to have you join them." He says and I nod.
"You're going to be a troubled one aren't you?" He asks.
"I'm surprised you can already tell" I retort.
"So drinking problem I hear? I'm going to have to need you see the infirmary tonight before bed."
"Why?" I pursed my lips.
"Don't question me just do as I say" he snapped out of nowhere.Damn can you say bipolar?
"One more thing before I dismiss you... Although this school is Co-Ed there is a 5:2 difference ratio with the boys and girls who attend this facility so I'm going to have to ask that you do not gather any attention from the boys here, since there so few girls here and so many hormones going around they'll love to see fresh meat walking into the dorms" he warned me pointing at me with his pen.
"No promises Dean" I smirk standing up from my chair.
"Its Headmaster Clark to you Aerona.Your dorm room number is 256 don't forget it, here are your keys " He said handing me over a key card.Ooh, a key card? Technology? Maybe this place isn't so old-fashioned after all?
"Thank you, Headmaster Clark, I'll see you at dusk" I smirk again and swayed out of his office.I slip my key card into my purse and see my suitcase placed at the front entrance. It's amazing how my mother could even bother handing it to me in person.
I lifted my suitcase up two flights of exhausting and old stairs and scan hallways until I see a dorm with the numbers 256 embedded into its door.I took out my key card and placed it in its slot and heard the unlocking of the door as I pushed the door wide open to see an already furnished dorm room.Ughh I had forgotten that I'd be sharing my dorm.
I didn't pay attention to the creaky twin sized bed split in the middle of the room surrounded by band posters and family photos of vacations to Ecuador and Italy.Postcards were from family members and friends were also clipped to a bulletin board she had hanging on the violet painted wall.Whoever this person didn't belong here if they wanted to go home so badly.
I dropped my suitcase and purse in front of the extra twin sized bed on the other side of the room and took the key card and my phone with me and stuffed them both into my bra.It was unnoticeable by my large chest suffocating the items so I knew I was all set to enter the canteen for dinner and then travel to find the infirmary.
