Chapter Twenty-Two
Roman's POV
Day : Five
Activity : Responsibilities
"H-he...lo," I answer my phone while trying to catch my breath.
"Hey Only."My Ken starts but then stops for a minute."What are you doing?" He ask.
"I-I running." I reply breathing a bit better than before.
"This time?"
"Yeah..I no sleepy."
"Still, it's too early to go for a run. Why didn't you read a book or something?"
"No worry Ken. I fine and no read better running." I assure him and sit down on the floor. There is grass around so I know it won't dirty my clothes that much but I'll get wet due to the morning dew.
Today is our fifth day and everything has been going smoothly. Nothing negative has happened so far and I'm glad to say Chandler hasn't been a problem like I thought before. She does what is expected of her and nothing much. I see her in the dining room, around the place and at the activity meetings. Yesterday she led her northern Lunas on their presentation and it was wonderful. During the first days, Nate had a sharp eye on everything she was doing just in case she might be going against my rules but nothing seemed off and I made him stop checking her.
"So why can't you sleep? What is the problem?"
I sigh and run my hand through my hair and face. I am exhausted at the moment since I pushed myself too hard while running. Actually, Lyn is the one who is restless and thus making me restless as well. However, the reason to that is unknown to both me and her. It's just like an itch that you keep scratching but it never goes away. If I could turn into my wolf form, I could have done that and run like crazy. But since I can't do that, I still went running and pushed myself as hard as I could.
"Lyn is restless. I no know why and she too. I try sleep but can't. So I run." I explain with a shrug. I'm worried though. I've never felt like this before and what if Lyn is sick. How can I help her?
"Only don't worry. Lyn is fine and you are fine too. Give me a second." He cuts the call and I sigh. I really hope that I'm okay.
Two more days to go before I get back to my Ken. I miss him and I miss our home, not forgetting Edwin. I wonder how he is spending his days. Perhaps he started the training he wanted with his brother. I can't call to know for sure since we told each other that we should not do that. It was his suggestion and I went along with it.
My phone starts ringing, interrupting my solitaire game. I answer right away since it's from my Ken.
"Where are you only?"
"At the ground."
I hear in the background as he tells someone where I am. I frown and wait for him to come back to me so that I should ask what's going on.
"Stay there. I've sent someone to help you out." He speaks to me after talking to the others.
"Who?" I ask looking around.
"I was talking to Isaac and Shaun, their mates will be there to help you out. Just stay there okay?"
"Oh...okay."
"Why sound so sad?"
"Nothing. I not sad."
"Okay Only. Did I tell you how much I've missed you?"
I smile and shake my head. He starts talking to me about different things with jokes included. My Ken is not good at jokes but that fact makes it laughable more than anyone else telling it. Soon the sun starts rising and from a distance, I see Victor and Chandler coming my way.
"Hey," I greet them when they get closer.
"Who are you talking to?" My Ken ask and I tell him that it is Victor and Chandler. "I'm glad they are finally there."
"What do you mean?" I frown looking at the two sitting opposite me.
"Chandler is Isaac's mate and Victor is Shaun's. I have sent them to you. I've already told them what to do and they will explain it to you. Relax and call me when they are done helping you. Bye." He cuts the call after my whispered okay.
I look at the two with a smile after greeting each other and wait for them to explain why they were here.
"The king said you were restless. I want to see if there is something physically wrong. Can I?" Chandler says and I nod even not knowing how she will check that out. My Ken wouldn't have sent them here if it was anything bad.
She motions for my hand to be placed in hers. I feel a tingling feeling the moment she holds my hands in hers. With her eyes closed, I stare at her in wonder. She was glowing and with the rising sun rays, they reflected on her perfectly, a beautiful sight to see. After a minute or two, she opens her eyes and leave my hand where the tingling is still present.
"He's fine. It must be the other reason causing it." She tells Victor who nods and turn to me.
"Roman, we think the reason why your feeling uneasy is because you are far from your mate. The distance is taking a toll on both you and your wolf. Since you guys are not yet mated, any distance can affect you negatively, especially you. Even me, I can be affected negatively if I'm away from Shaun for a long time but I'm not affected now because I'm mated to Shaun and the connection between us is strong unlike the connection between you and your mate." Victor explains.
Oh. Now that he's mentioned it, I think he might be right. I felt a bit better when I talked to my Ken earlier.
"There isn't much to do to make you feel better, other than meeting with your mate. But right now, we will show you how you can temporary make your wolf feel better." Chandler adds and I look at her expectantly.
"Close your eyes." Victor starts instructing me and I do as told.
I close my eyes and concentrate. He tells me to picture Lyn in a wolf form. I've never pictured her in a wolf form before. I just thought of him as a girly Roman and nothing else. I think of purple fur. I don't know why but I do think of that and soon enough I see a wolf. It has purple on the toes, a line starting from the nose and passing passing between the eyes and the back until the tail. The rest of the body fur is in a brown golden colour.
"Lyn!" I gasp at the beautiful wolf before me. She opens her eyes and look at me with purple eyes. She whimpers and I frown when I see the sadness in her eyes.
I hear Victor speaking again and I listen. He tells me I should picture my Ken in wolf form as well. I start picturing my mate and a moment later, he appears in my mind. I watch as the two wolfs circle each other lovingly, caressing each others body with the other. Victor tells me to open my eyes and I do so.
"Successful?" Chandler ask and I nod with a smile.
"How do you feel now?" Victor inquires and I think about it.
"I honest, I feel good." I sigh in content feeling relaxed than before. They chuckle and I smile. Just then, my phone rings and I answer.
"Only is it done yet?" He ask impatiently and I decide to tease him.
"No. I still feel no fine." I groan for effect and I hear him curse in frustration.
"I'll be on my way then." He says seriously and I slip up by laughing. He asks what's funny but I don't reply due to the laughter. I had pictured a frustrated Ken and the image in my head was very funny. "You were playing me, weren't you?"
"Sorry Ken."
"No. Sorry won't be enough. This calls for a punishment when you come home in two days time." I start to protest but he stands his ground. "I'm happy you are okay though. I'll call you up later. Have a wonderful day Only."
"Thanks. Bye."
I end the phone call and stand up with the two. The sun isn't shining much due to the crowds in the sky. It's a bit cold but I can manage without a jersey. We start walking away from the ground and back to the camp for a bath and perhaps some breakfast. From a distance, I see a girl running to us. She stops before us breathing heavily.
"Th-there is a-a f-fight." She breathes heavily while pointing to the tents. The news makes us both to start running there while leaving the girl behind to calm down.
We hear the commotion before we even get there and when we get there, I gasp at the sight before me. Despite Nate, Kiera and Nicolette's effort to end the fight, nothing changes. To my shock, it is a girl from eastern city being beaten by three girls from northern city.
"Stop it!" Chandler orders and immediately, the girls from her city stop hitting the other. "What is this?" She ask the girls who looks at each other before one of them feels bold enough to step up and reply to their Luna's question.
"Luna, she stole my jewels. I found them in her bag." The girl explains.
"I-I didn't." The accused girl sobs and Victor who is with her shushes her.
"Where is the bag?" Chandler ask and a bag is placed before her. I move closer to see and indeed there are jewels in the bag.
"Why would you bring all that with you Vivien?" Chandler voice out what is exactly on my mind. The girl I assume is Vivien shrugs.
"Chandler, Sylvia can never steal from anyone. Even if she did, she could have confessed about it already." Victor grits out obviously in anger at the injustice that happened to his subject.
"I know." Chandler replies with a smile at Victor then turns to the three girls. "Vivien, it is not good to lie and accuse someone of something that they didn't do. Mostly, you should know that lying to me isn't a good choice either. Why did you lie?" She growls at the girls and Vivien visibly flinch and take a step back. The look Chandler sends the girls is really frightening that Vivien starts rumbling.
"I- we were just joking Luna. We thought it was a bit boring so we wanted to have fun by picking on someone. Stacy brought the idea of accusing her for stealing and Yvonne suggested we rough her up a bit. I went with it since those are my jewels."
I gasp at the explanation. How can someone find fun in hitting other people? That's truly sick. I look around and see that Nate and the two girls managed to remove the crowd and now it is only me, Chandler, Victor and the four involved girls. I stay silent to hear what Chandler will have to say. This is her case to solve and I'm really interested to know how she will solve this problem. If I find it not good enough then I'll step in to give them my mind.
"That is shameful and I am ashamed by your behavior. Leave this place at once and go pack your things. You are going home early." She orders and the girls leave the place in hurry but Vivien comes back to collect the bag of jewels only to be stopped by Chandler. "That isn't yours anymore. I think Sylvia has a right to own that after all the beatings she took."
"But Luna-"
"Enough Vivien! You don't want me to rash out on you now. Leave."
The girl hurries away with tears in her eyes. Serves her right.
"You don't have to keep that from her Chandler. Give it back to her. Sylvia also doesn't want it with her." Victor speaks up.
Chandler just shrugs and kneel next to Sylvia on the floor. She takes her hand in her and I look in awe as the bruises in her heals up fast until she spots no bruise on her. Chandler stands and look at me.
"I'm sorry for the northeners behavior. I'll make sure nothing like that happens again alpha. I'll take my leave now." She turns away, carrying the jewels as she go. I call out to her and ask about it. "I'll give these back to her mate. You know not all northerners are rich as they seem. Vivien just wanted to boast about with the jewels but this is all they have. If they lose this then they might suffer. Her punishment is the worry she is in at the moment, not knowing what her mate will say to her if she shows up without these. I'll let her worry for all I care." She shrugs and walk away from us.
"You know Chandler is a good person. She just gets influenced easily and that is the problem when she is around bad people. She was influenced by Monroe and now she will be influenced by you. And I hope you change her for good this time. She's already changing anyway." Victor murmurs and I look at him to find Sylvia gone and just us two remaining.
"What is she?" I ask referring to Chandler?
"She is a healer. In the north, there are skilled healers than any city. Chandler is the best of them all and she truly is extraordinary."
So the glowing and everything is because she is a healer? Wow.
The day goes on well despite the hiccups at the beginning. One of the elder Lunas present here, gives us the lesson on how a Luna is supposed to be responsible in a pack. There are so many responsibilities but my favorite is being a mother. It's a bit scary to know that I'll be a mother of the whole kingdom one day and everyone will be looking out to me. But I hope to be the best mother and a good role model to all mothers.
Night comes quickly and soon enough, it is time to retreat to our rooms for the day. Before I go to mine, Veronica, one of the elder Lunas, teaches me how to put Lyn to sleep. She say it will help me feel better and distract her enough and make her feel at ease. I try and succeed in making her sleep. I thank the Luna and head to my room. I sleep right away, the moment I'm in bed as yesterday deprived sleep comes to me stronger.
