Chapter XI - Natural Forces
Nico P.O.V.
A week had passed and the campers still feared the 13th Cabin. So, naturally, (like a good friend) Nico kept his side of the deal. No one in the Hermes cabin slept that night.
As the week was passing, Nico finally noticed why he had been brought back. He had a job - a reason to live. He had souls to reap, lost spirits to guide back and most importantly, he had demigods to keep alive.
Nico was walking out of the Hades cabin, walking through camp, watching demigods almost die in training, he passed the Stolls. They stared at him he stared back, without breaking eye contact (with one of them, anyway).
"You really are alive," they said in unison.
Nico nodded uncertainly, "not exactly alive, but here."
"So you're a ghost then?"
"I'm not actually sure."
Nico hoped he wasn't a ghost. It would be ironic since he was the Ghost King, after all.
"So why-" Travis began.
"-can't anyone-" Connor continued
"-else see-"
"-you?" They asked.
Nico knew that they weren't twins, but they sure acted like they were.
"It's a long story that I don't want to explain right now," Nico replied unhelpfully.
"Okay then, can you get rid of the dancing skeletons?"
A small smirk appeared on Nico's face. "Nope."
The brothers frowned.
"How long will they stay there?" They questioned.
"As long as I think is reasonable. Oh - and don't try sleeping somewhere else. I'm watching from the trees."
The Stoll brothers shivered. "Yes sir!"
Nico turned around and walked to Thalia's pine, sitting down and leaning against the tree's trunk. Something isn't right, he thought.
Out of habit, Nico pulled out his Stygian sword and began to fiddle with it while thinking.
It's January. New years passed a while ago. Nothing seems to be wrong different in camp. Kids are battling, Zeus's fist is still a pile of rocks, the climbing wall is in working order; apart from cabin 13, all the cabins seem normal. The weather is fine.
As Nico was going to realize in a few moments, the weather was most definitely not fine.
Hold up, January should have snow. Where's the snow?
Nico needed to think about this for a while before remembering that Jack Frost isn't going to be able to make snow without his staff.
Too bad, maybe the Stolls will be able to escape my dancing skeletons.
Nico slipped into the pine tree's shadow and appeared under Jaime's bed.
He crawled out from the shadows under the bed. Nico noticed, that unlike most beds that belong to children, the underneath of Jaime's bed was clean.
Nico walked quietly towards Jaime, who was reading a book titled Happy Potter and the Goblet of Giggles.
What a strange book name, Nico thought. Reminds me of this other book series..
Nico took a silent breath and greeted the little boy. "Hey."
As it turned out, Jaime had fast reflexes, because The Goblet of Giggles nearly knocked Nico out, which would have been embarrassing, because Jaime was eight and Nico was a thirteen year old demigod.
"Woah, watch it Jaime, you could kill someone," Nico frowned.
"Oh, it's you," Jaime laughed nervously. "Sorry, I was reading too much."
Nico wondered how a book titled The Goblet of Giggles would cause Jaime to attempt to wack Nico on the head.
"Anyway, Jaime," Nico began, "have you seen Jack lately?"
Jaime shook his head sadly. "No sign of him."
Nico nodded, handing Jaime a small mythomagic figurine of Hermes, who Nico found to suit Jaime perfectly.
"It's like a phone," Nico explained, "you can talk into it and I'll hear you, or I can talk into it and you'll hear me. It'll vibrate as a warning before a message is sent, so nobody hears, okay?"
"Yeah, but why are you giving it to me? How could I help you?"
"Jaime, you're Jack's best friend. If he can, he'll visit you, don't worry. I just need to know, just in case."
Jaime nodded gratefully. "Thank you."
Nico had to hide his surprise, but soon he found his words. "No problem, buddy. I have to go now, though. Someone got lost again on the way to the gate."
"What gate? Can I help find them?"
"It's kind of complicated, but right now, I need you to stay here and listen you your mom, be normal. You should."
Jaime walked up and gave Nico a hug, surprising the son of Hades for the second time in less than five minutes, so Nico felt obliged to return Jaime's hug.
"You know Nico, you and Jack are more alike than you think you are," Jaime smiled, flipping back to his page and continuing to read. "If you find Jack, tell me through the doll."
"It's not a doll!" Nico sighed exasperatedly. "It's a figurine!"
"Bye Nico, see you later."
Nico bit the inside of his cheek out of frustration but shadow traveled to a weather climate/research lab - more technically known as meteorological stations - hoping to find any information on Jack.
(A/N: Again, props to HadesPlutoNico for telling me what a weather research station was called)
Just as Nico's face was starting to feel like it was going to smash into thousands of little glass shards, he smacked his head like a boss on a cement wall. At that moment in time, Nico had felt relived that no one could see him.
He climbed into the lab though an open window, being fortunate enough to walk into a heated conversation between a full table of scientists who were trying to find a reason why all the snow had disappeared.
"Well Joe, it couldn't have been climate change because even though the Earth is polluted, we haven't reached that point yet."
"Hannah, do you have a theory?"
"None at all, Mr. Mathew."
A door from Nico's left flung open, revealing a stereotypical 'mad scientist,' holding a slightly out of focus picture of snow on a fence, the man grinned widely.
"Hello!" He greeted.
The boss man who Nico had inferred to be called Mr. Mathew sighed. "Yes, Xeno?"
"I've found some evidence of snow in Aomori City, Tōhoku , Japan!"
"Really now?" Mr. Mathew asked. "Do you have a theory?"
"Well, I think that the balances of the nature spirits has been tipped off by something, and the snow spirit wants to try and get someone's attention!"
"You know, Xeno, I am tempted to fire you right now."
Nico suddenly felt a pang of resentment in his gut, so he did the most responsible thing he could think of. He pulled out his spare metal pocketknife and flipped it open, banging it into the table and causing silence to cut everyone off. Nico thought for a moment, wondering what to scratch in when it came to him. He began to write, closing his eyes so the words were easier to spell. The trick was to write blind.

Nico opened his eyes long enough to see that one scientist pulled out her phone to video it.
I find no reason to film this.
Nico waited until the phone was closed and threw a stick at the security cameras.
"Wh-Wh-Who are you?" Joe stuttered.
I can be your best friend, but then again, I can be your worst nightmare.
Joe ran towards the doors, though Nico had already broken the sensor.
Well, I think that mysterious occasions should stay secret, don't you?
A few of the scientists shivered.
Nico begun to get bored, so he granted the scientists a free leaving pass by tampering a bit with the wires, which was a pain.
When the doors finally opened, a handful of scientists exited straight away, a few staied to study the table, Mr. Mathew glared at it, Xeno smiled at it and whispered a thank you. Nico etched a few more words for the helpful scientist.
I thank you for helping me. I have a friend to find :)
And with that, Nico left Xeno the scientist with a blissful memory.

Wish Nico happy birthday on January the 28th! Thanks for reading!
Also, I'd like to say thank you for putting up with me constantly changing from 1st to 3rd person, I'm having a bit of trouble with finding what I'm most comfortable with at the moment.
Have a good day!
