Chapter V - Misson Failed

Nico P.O.V

Jamie woke up with a gasp as I teleported to his bedroom. He quickly pulled himself into a sitting position. His big eyes staying sharply alert.

"Hello Jamie." I smirked.

"What do you want? Who are you? How do you know my name?" Jamie bombarded me with questions.

He paused, a hopeful look creeping into his eyes, "do you know where Jack is?"

It was basically written all over his face that Jamie had no idea if I knew Jack or not, but he was obviously missing his favourite guardian to the point that he would ask random house-breakers about him.

"Enough of the questions, little kid, we gotta go."

"Go where?" He asked

"No time to explain - Jack needs help."

I fought off the glaze that was appearing in my eyes, Pitch's voice echoing in my mind, so I slapped myself. Jaime took no notice of this.

"What? What happened to him?" I cut him off by enveloping him into a shadow and together, we headed towards the lair. When I reached the tunnel, Jamie was unconscious.

The poor mortals can't handle my fabulousness.

(A/N: originally said "poor mortals can't handle my shadow traveling" but HadesPlutoNico fixed that.)

I placed her down on the floor. Pitch turned around, sensing my presence. "Master, I have the boy."

"Good. Do you have any idea where Jack is?"

"No. Why?" He should be here by now.

"He hasn't come back. I think he is captured by the guardians. His power is not strong enough to kill them. And that's why I want him to attack them as a warning from me. I don't want the guardians dead, yet. I will go to save him. Nico, you stay here and stay an keep an eye on Jamie."

"Alright." I nodded my head.

I waited until I was sure Pitch was gone, stuck Jamie in a tunnel and started to close it off, I decided not to when Jamie woke up. Pretty fast for a mortal.

"What are you doing?"

"Keeping you safe. I need you to trust me. My name is Nico Di Angelo. Pitch might be coming soon, I need you to work with me."

"How?"

"I'm getting to that bit. Wait a second. Jack is being controlled by Pitch-"

"What?"

"I need you to be patient or time will run out! As I was saying, Jack needs help. When Pitch is coming I'll warn you a few seconds before. Pretend you're unconscious," I made up the plan, surprised with how it was turning out. All I could do was hope it worked. "If Jack sees you, he might be able to break through. There's a cage there, here's the key. Lock yourself in. The mattress has a few cockroaches living in it, don't use it. I'll be back."

"Wait! I-"

But I had already left.

Jack P.O.V

I let out a laugh when North put down his sword. "Look at this, the guardians don't dare to kill their enemy. You guys are weak." I scoffed, trying to stand up but pushed back down on the floor again by North.

"Mate, you better shut your mouth." Bunny's eyes sent daggers to mine.

"Jack, what make you turn against us? You were one of us. We care about you. We were like a family. Why?" Tooth said, her voice near breaking point. Here she thought I would back down and give in.

Something suddenly flashed through my mind, it was the kind smiles that was given to me by the guardians and my few believers. My family.

I felt a wave of warm embrace me. I already lost my emotions. There was no way I can feel warm again. No way. My eyes soften a little.

Deep down past the curse in my strong exterior, there was a boy who desperately wanted to surrender infront of the guardians. I was sure they will forgive me. I was sure I could be a part of the family again. I was sure they care about me now and before. I wasn't sure where those thoughts came from, but I continued to elaborate on them, thinking about my life as a guardian.

Despite all that, I couldn't bring myself to give in. Someone just need to break through the curse. The curse was making me who I was now.

The curse. Happy. The curse. Break through. The curse. Who I am. The curse. Jamie. The curse. The Guardians. The curse. Family. The curse. Warm. The curse.

The words kept echoing in my head, like a dream that became a chilling nightmare. I was about to give in and call out for help, when a tingle rippled through out my body. I shuddered slighlty.

He was here. He was here. The one who put the curse on me was here.

Pitch. Pitch was here.

My eyes darted around the room, fear of finding the man who killed who I was.

My eyes zeroed in on Nico Di Angelo, who was doing his best to blend in with the shadows around him.

"Hello fellow guardians, one day you shall fall and the whole world will swallowed in fear. Better say goodbye to your children before you face your death." Pitch's voice boomed. So he was here.

He was here but I couldn't see him. This was terrible. What was worse than staring your enemy straight in the face? Not being able to see them but knowing that they are there somewhere, ready to sneak attack you from behind.

What's Nico doing? I thought he was capturing Jamie. Well he should be helping me! Stupid kid.

Jamie.

I said I would go back- an unspoken promise.

"I'll see you later Jaime!"

Slowly, slowly, a cloud of darkness surrounded my body. Before I was swallowed by them, I choked out the two words:

"Help me."

Last thing I saw was Jamie fainted on the ground, Nico smiling in a sinister way and speaking to Pitch.

Tiny moving ants attacked my vision, and I fell on the floor. Swarms of them clouding my sight.
