puNS

Sky's P.O.V

I slowly woke up to something licking my cheek.

I sat up, frantically looking around as my cheek felt somewhat moist. Something was definitely licking me. Ew, I thought, blinking a few times before touching my cheek. I pull my hand back, only to see saliva stick onto my fingers.

I shake my hand in disgust, all the while rubbing the stuff off of my cheek.

I suddenly heart crunching, panting, and a small whimper. I looked around again, nothing seemed to be here, only me, myself and-

Growl

I turned my head, only to bet met with orange eyes that stared at me with interest and curiosity. I stared back at them before realizing;

A wolf.

I quickly stumbled away, still keeping my gaze on the wolf's eyes in case it might attack me.

Weird, how on earth did this all happen.

I kept on backing away, I can feel a numbness on my arm, which made me trip over myself. In this case, I am dead as hell, with a wolf just a few meters away from me. Learned it from a book somewhere-

Now is not the time for me to think about that, besides there was a canine here that would probably rip me to shreds.

"S-stay away!" I yelled in a pathetic tone due to a pain, but I couldn't go where it was because of the creature in front of me. Even if I tried running, you can't outrun hostile wolves. I think it happened before, but my mind only registered what is happening right now, it hurts to remember.

I kept on backing away until I felt my back hit the tree, signaling that I was mostly vulnerable, with the lack of strength and senses that driven me into fear. How the fuck am I suddenly in this!?

I grit my teeth, waiting for the wolf to pounce on me, normally I'd have ran away or killed it by now, but, the damn pain and weakness is getting to me.

The wolf came nearer, as I examined, it seemed familiar. From the way it looks. I tried to remember but pain bolted up my head, causing me to groan and shuffle in my seat, trying to ignore the fact that I just caused more infection.

It somewhat examined me now, it didn't bare it's teeth, but I was still cautious. It stared at me for awhile, but I noticed it wasn't focused on me,it was staring at something. I furrowed my eyebrows before following the canine's gaze.

I realized it was staring at my arm with a tilt, signifying that there was something on it, or in it actually.

I glanced at my arm, my eyes widening as I saw blood graze over it, with what I think was A deep bite, bubbles and a few scratches. I glanced back up at the wolf, my breath hitching as it came near. So that's what caused the pain, but why didn't I feel it now?

Or is it numb.... If it is, then, the bite must've happened hours ago. How long was I passed out anyway? Did this all happen to be a hallucination?

I felt a slight lick at my arm and froze, looking down, I saw smothered dry blood. I gasped and looked up, once again facing the wolf as it's snout got coated with blood. My blood to be exact.

I felt myself scream inwardly as the wolf licked my wound again, only for the blood to disappear slightly, replaced with saliva that dripped down my arm. My jaw dropped when I noticed new skin cells forming on my arm, stitching up the deep bite as if it were a heal potion.

"What the fuck!?" I swore, my heart pounding to the point where I could hear it through my quickened pulse in my neck. I glanced up at the wolf, only to see a tail swooshing around in the tall grass. A few seconds later, the tail disappeared and instead there was a head.

I furrowed my eyebrows, noticing that it was carrying some thing in its mouth.

A pig?

I was about to stand up and walk over to it but I guess curiosity killed the cat.

The wolf bit down, blood oozing out as the pig squealed to it,pain, struggling in the Wolf's jaws. I Felt as if the mammal's teeth had dug into its bones and some organs, which made me feel a bit sick. After a few moments, the pig stopped, limping in between the teeth of beast.

The wolf's ears perked up, knowing the pig was dead. It looked up at me with a hint of proudness and victory. I sort of did the same.

It soon trotted over to me, carrying the bloody corpse as the red liquid dripped onto the ground, leaving bloody trails and pawprints. I looked up, the fact that the crushed body in it's mouth was an adult pig, and would've roamed free if it weren't for the predators around.

I mean, this is what was thought to me and my sister when we were kids, but, I didn't know it would be that be that brutal..

I mentally screamed inside as it came nearer, dropping the pig to my feet as blood splattered up on my legs.

Soon the wolf looked up at me with eyes that expected something, like a reaction? It Sat down, just inches away from me.

I grit my teeth, leaning into the tree as I kept my gaze on it. Shifting awkwardly, I try my best to avoid the fresh corpse.

A silence fell over us, though, the wolf kept on glancing towards the pig and I, it's tail wagging slowly as it patiently sat. Though, I just stared at the pig, noticing all of the blood pouring out, staining the Wolf's paws and it's tail.

"I'm gonna be sick soon.." I mutter under my breath. The wolf took no reaction to it, but quietly sniffed.

I took the time to examine the wolf again, focusing on important things. The wolf was large, for sure, it's buff yet sly structure made it more menacing, judging by the snout and it's head, it was a male.

If I stood up, it would easily reach up to my belly, if you count the ears it would be my chest. Damn, is that like a dire wolf?

I looked at it- his now familiar eyes, it looked so harmless, despite the red-ish tint the pupils had, probably hostile, but passive somehow. Though, I noticed the slight, bit of.. Intelligence.

I shook the thought away, quickly snapping out of the trance only to realize he was still glancing at the pig, but seen as I stared at him, he kept his gaze on me.

I asked through my mind, as if the wolf could understand.

What am I suppose to do?

The Wolf's ears perked up, and he tilted his head, blinking in surprise as his tail stopped wagging, but now batting the ground.

Wait, why am I expecting an answer? It's a damn animal for notch's sake!

I mentally face palmed, what am I thinking? I chuckled, but kept it low so I won't startle him.
The wolf looked at me as if it was annoyed.

Are you just going to sit there?

I jumped, glancing around as the wolf looked at me curiously.

"Who said that!?" I shouted, expecting something to jump at me any second, or, any time actually. After a few minutes, silence only responded.

I felt my shoulders tense up, hallucination? Nah, too real. Must've been the poison kicking in, or was I already poisoned when the wolf bit me? Did the wolf even bite me? Probably..

I looked up at the creature again noticing how it laid on its belly, the grass was nipping at its fur, along with the ones coated in dry blood. Which reminds me, how did I heal? It wasn't a hallucination, no, the numbness and the paint aren't there, but the adrenaline through me might of had something to do with it.

But still, the voice sounded familiar and mind delusional, as if it were from a life source, yet the only life source I could see and hear, is the wolf, I'm not even sure if I can touch it or is this all real, I mean, I do smell the pig, it smelled...pretty delicious, and... Prey-ish. Guess I'm hungry.

I glanced at it and felt myself let out a low inhuman growl.

Shouldn't you feed on it? Young one?

I nodded subconsciously, dropping my arm as I hunched over the dead pig. With a bloodthirsty grin.

"Maybe, I should...Wait,"

My eyes widened.

Holy shit.

"Who are you!?" I suddenly shouted, jumping up to my feet as the wolf stared up at me as if it were trying to figure out what was happening.

Calm down, pup, who are you referring to?

Uh, what.

The fact that the thing called me a human, and blindly asking who I was talking about, made me jump up into the tree.

The wolf stared at me with a 'WTF?' Look, which made me frown at it.

but I think, I have found, the owner of the voice.

"Did you say that..?" I asked hesitantly, quickly clutching onto a branch as the wolf had the look of hesitation on its skeptical face. Silence, once again, Rose up, but was quickly drowned out by the snorting of the wolf.

Is it not obvious?

What?

"So, it is you... How can I-"

Mind link.

The wolf bent it's ears, as if blocking out some sounds, more likely calling. The wolf bowed it's head, gazing at me heavily as it's snout nudged the back of the pig, that laid forgotten when I was terrified.

Eat, we cannot waste our time talking, and with you starving, you will not be seen by the alpha with nice aspects, pup.

I processed what the wolf, or he, said through our brains, I think. An alpha? What does he mean by nice aspects? Also, why did he tense at the word pup? I decided to save all of the questions for later, and let go of the branch, dropping down onto the blood splattered ground.

Good, you have skills and tolerance, now start eating, it is turning into the mid-day, and we do not want to arrive after the sunset.

The wolf gave out a sigh like growl, raising his head and unbending his ears. I obeyed and looked at the pig, now noticing how it isn't as fresh as before but I somehow had the appetite.

-le few minutes later-

After I was done eating, the wolf nodded and pulled me along while I was cleaning my blood covered hands, followed by my mouth that literally had the taste of animal blood evident in them. Weird thing, is that, while I was eating, pain flashed when ever I took a bite, probably sore from something.

Whatever, but let's continue back into the present.

I walked along the wolf, or rather, tried to keep up by running as it trotted into a a direction, where the tall grass were everywhere and some patches were taller than me, it scares me a bit, considering I'm a twelve year old.

A few moments he slowed down and waited for me as I breathlessly ran up beside him.

"Jeez, I need more  exercise, I think I've been cooped up in that orphanage so long that I forgot how to use my legs-"

Why would you say that? After all, you have reflexes that could out smart a predator any day, also, what orphan-age? Is that a time erra?

The voice sounded distant, which probably meant that the wolf was far away, and I probably needed to know his name since it's a bit disrespectful to call him 'Wolf'. I ignored his questions and put my hands on my knees.

"Oh uh, hey, um, can we rest for a minute!? My legs hurt!"

I regained some breath, looking over the grass as the wolf shook it's head and walked over to me.

I totally forgot, pups are too weak and have minimal stability. But you, have long two legs, you should be fine!

I shook my head and puffed out some warm breaths, quickly slumping in frustration.

"We have lungs, wolf. I also don't have the most strong legs either. I don't even know how I am able to talk to you, I'm a human!" I stated, kicking my legs as the wolf gave out a whine.

You have a point, But did anyone address you as a human?

My eye twitched as the wolf tilted it's head.

"Actually, I've never been called our type of species before, there was freak, faggot -dunno what that means-, prick and other colorful names! Just not Human."

The wolf nodded, quickly walking back towards the direction again. Weird, did it try to learn my name? Hope not. I quickly catch up to him as he calmly walked towards a dense Forrest.

"And if your wondering, my name isn't actually any of those! It's Adam Dahlberg!" I jogged next the wolf, his ears twitching slightly at the new name, he looked at me with a curious look.

Funny, you seem like the 'Sky' type. I also had the feeling that I didn't need to speak formal to you!

I never thought a wolf would think of me as the sky and a neutral being.

"Really? How?"

The wolf gestured a shrug, trotting on as I suddenly felt the fear, and weakness in me fade away, soon calmly walking along side the mammal.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you, my name's Rascal, beta of the pack! Don't need informality though.

He stated proudly, his tail wagging in delight as a smile plastered onto my face, along with a chuckle.
After a moment he turned back to me.

But don't make fun of my name either, blame it on my original owner.

"Original owner?"

You know, the ones that take care of those poor wolves that had somehow been lured into-

"I know what that means already, but you were a dog before?"

Well, yes, but I escaped!

He escaped, just like I did, how convenient.

"Did you have a 'pack' before?"

They died in hunting, captured and poisoned by hunters, the worse thing is that not only did the hunters capture them in such a minimum state, but pups had poisoned them too!

Wait, what does he mean by that?

"Uh, pups?"

The smaller versions of those hunters, or humans, there were alot!

"How many, actually?"

About seven of them, two of the hunters, though I think I saw a glimpse of four more.

No parents, escaped, that's pretty much what we only have in similarity.

"When it's all happen?"

Six years ago.

Same as my parents, coincidences happen? But anyways, I felt stress hover over Rascal's body.

"What is mindlink?" I decided to change the subject, since I think the wolf became uncomfortable with me asking all of the questions.

It is a way of communication through our kind, where it only exists in our mind, but, you're an actual pup who's understood us!

"How's that even..." I trailed off, still keeping my footing as crickets filled the area with their loud calls.

I closed my eyes, remembering something, and it only showed a flashback of my arm being bitten, the figure of the same exact wolf biting into it as if it was gonna end the world.

I opened my eyes, looking at my arm, that was completely different, but I can't help but notice the torn sleeve, the fabric had dried blood soaked into it. I missed it, and it reminded me of who ripped it out. I glared at Rascal.

Rascal gave me a questioning look. Maybe the bite has something to do with this.

"Why did you bite me?"

Rascal stopped walking and started frowining, his ears bending as he stared at me with apologizing eyes.

We wolves are hostile during full moons, never could we deny our instincts.

I somehow felt angry now, a bit aggressive and curious, but I let it all fade away, realizing what he had done.

"Why, didn't you finish me off?"

The wolf stood silent, his emotions showing that he is trying to find an answer.

I don't know, actually..

I sighed and kept walking, taking seconds for Rascal to realize that I was ahead of him. My head facing the ground as I stepped on gravel and... Our normal patches of grass.

I heard Rascal walk beside me.

Uh Sky, so sorry that I couldn't answer your question, but it's true, I don't actually know what had caused me to stop..

I was about to respond only to realize that Rascal stopped in front of me, before grinning.

We're here!
