Why do I keep making sad characters?

So here's the heartbreaking backstory.

Yume lived a...not-so-normal life with her mother, older sister, and two brothers (one older, one younger). Her father had died not long after her little brother was born, so he wasn't around anymore. The problem was, she was born very ill, and wasn't allowed to do some things a normal child could do (ex. go to school, play outside, spend time with friends, etc), and of course that made her family super protective and considerate about her. One day when she was six years old, she got even more sick, so she was forced to stay in bed. The same night, however, she dared to get up to get a snack, but fell into a coma halfway there. Hearing the thud, her younger brother woke up and went to see what it was. Seeing her unconscious on the floor, he started screaming for everyone else. They rushed her to the hospital, but she died while she was there. Instead of completely dying, though, her spirit was stuck in the body of a fluffy black cat. She now had a new power, too: she could enter the dreams of others. So, she decided to use this power to comfort people who were having nightmares or were in a coma themselves, though she still visited her family every now and then. But, there's a catch. Whenever she's in a dream, she's as her human self. But she only as a limited time, and as that time runs out, she turns more and more catlike before disappearing completely. First she grows a long, fluffy tail, then little cat ears, then paws, then whiskers, then fur on the rest of her body, then she slowly shrinks down to cat size and disappears from the dream completely. She always hates having to leave dreams, but knows it has to be done. Oh, and in the real world, if she manages to befriend a human, they're able to see her true form too.

She's based off of the song "My Time" by bo en.

It's a kind of creepy but cool song...but I like it.
