Chapter 6: Unexpected

About a month ago, I contacted Hanji's superiors and asked them about her. Then asked where she lived that way I can surprise her. They gave me her address after asking me security questions about Hanji. I'm waiting inside her room, sitting on her couch, just waiting for her.

The door's lock made a noise, Hanji must be home. I silently ran to the lights, turning them off and hiding by the front door. The lights came on and the door closed. Hanji walks inside, sighing.

I jump behind her and grab her shoulders, "So this is where you've been hiding." I say in a deep, low voice.

Hanji turns, "L-Levi?!" She yells as she saw me.

I start to laugh, "Your reaction."

"Levi..." Hanji grabs me and hugs me close.

"Hey shitty glasses."

"My clean-freak..." She kisses me on my lips. "'What are you doing here? Thought you'll never see me again?"

"That's why I came here. I wanted to stay with you again. Mind if I sleep here... oh, I don't know, until you come back?" I kiss her.

"As long as you calm down and not do anything stupid."

"Give me an example."

"Cleaning up my room."

"Too late." I gently push her and start to clear her table.

"Ugh, such a clean-freak."

"So what? I care about you. And your surroundings."

"Whatever Levi. How much stuff did you bring?" I glance at her as she saw my luggage.

"3 pairs of clothes, 2 pajamas. That's all."

"Looks so much..."

"Maybe because there's something for you?"

Hanji gasps, "R-Really?!"

"Yep. But, I'm gonna shower right now. Mind if I can?"

"Don't mind at all... I'll order pizza."

"Alright."

We ate the pizza fairly quick... and I wanted to sleep, even though it was 6:42 pm. I tried to lay on the couch, but Hanji convinced me to sleep with her in her bed. So... I lay on her bed as Hanji kept moving.

"Hanji, stop moving around. Can't sleep." I gently push her.

"Not my fault... this is how I sleep in bed!"

"Well, I prefer the couch."

"No, stay!" Hanji grabs my waist and pulls me back into bed. "Don't leave me."

"That's what I said when you left."

"Oh, teasing , eh, clean-freak?"

"Shitty glasses."

"Well... you're my clean-freak..." She kisses me on my lips.

"And you're my shitty glasses. You should know that by now. How was working without me?"

"Ugh, boring. I wish I stayed."

"And? What other things happen? Anything threatening you?"

"Eh... some guys flirting with me."

"And?"

"Told them that I have a boyfriend. Saying how he's better than everyone else."

"Well... that's nice. They still don't listen to me... so..."

"So what?"

"Do you want to come over to my work tomorrow? To put them down."

"Sure, I'll love to come and see you work. Also, I want to know these guys who's trying to hit on you."

"Levi... you shouldn't say things like that."

"Why are you afraid?"

"Because they're taller than you, taller than me."

"So?"

"They'll beat you to a pulp."

"I can handle myself. Promise."

"Just, don't try and get me fired."

"I'll try not to." I kiss her as she wrapped her arms around me.

"My midget clean-freak."

"Shut up and go to sleep."

"Fine..."

I woke up to the smell of eggs and bacon. Rubbing my eyes, I sat up in bed. One of my first times sleeping in a bed, and it wasn't that bad. I turn to find Hanji, but she wasn't there, she must be cooking breakfast for the both of us.

"Hanji?" I call out as I slid out of bed.

"Yeah?"

"Are you making breakfast?"

"Of course, who else would be here?"

"Nothing, just asking." I made my way to Hanji and I see her at the stove. Her back was turned to me and I can hear her humming. "What'cha making?"

"Eggs and bacon, clean-freak."

"Why are you cooking breakfast for the both of us? We could've went and gotten pancakes." I sit at the dining table.

"I wanted to make it special."

"Special? It wasn't special when you took me out for breakfast."

"Yeah... well, you're here..."

"And?"

"And I'm glad you're here... with me."

"Yeah yeah."

"Just, eat." Hanji gives me a plate filled with eggs and 3 pieces of bacon.

"This is way too much."

"You're skinny, you need to eat more."

"I have a reason why I'm skinny."

"Oh really, what?"

"I grew up on the streets. I had no food, makes sense?"

"Hmm... a bit."

"Hanji." I growled.

She laughs, "Ha-ha, it makes sense."

After breakfast, Hanji drove with me to her workplace and when we arrived, it was a laboratory. It was a typical laboratory, all pristine and white. Clean... I walked inside and I felt happy. Everything was clean and nothing was out of place. It felt... perfect.

"Oi, Hanji." I turn to see a man dressed in a lab coat and black pants. He had dark brown hair and blue eyes. He started to wave at Hanji and as he approached closer, he was taller than Hanji. Must be one of those guys that flirts with Hanji...

"Hey Henry." Hanji waves back.

"Who's this?" Henry points at me.

"That's my boyfriend."

"Levi Ackerman."

"Henry Wilfer." He shakes my hand and turns to Hanji. "This is your boyfriend? You weren't kidding?"

"Why would I ever joke like that?"

"He seems... young. How old are you?" He asks me.

"34."

"34? Jeez, you seem like 20 or something."

"What made you think of that?"

"First of all, your height. And how you look bored all the time."

"My height?"

"Are you sure you're 34?"

"Yes, I'm sure."

"And not her little brother?"

"I'm not even blood-related to her, nor do I look similar to her."

"Huh..."

"Shut up, Henry. Leave him alone." Hanji tries to stop him, but he pushes her against the wall.

"Hanji, you don't belong with a midget like him. You belong with me."

"He's my midget, I don't care about his height. I care about his personality and who he truly is."

Henry slams her against the wall. "Shut up."

"Oi, Henry." I tapped his shoulder. He turns around and gives me a look.

"Stay outta this, midget." I lost control, my anger took over and I lost myself. I didn't think things through. All my anger went into my fist, my strength, my thoughts, everything. Once everything was in my fist, I threw a punch at Henry, hearing the breaking of his nose. Then, my other fist went into his gut and I just looked at him, no feelings and no regret. Henry then falls to the floor, clutching his broken nose, blood spilling everywhere on his neat white lab coat. "T-The... hell?" He looks at me in horror.

"Next time, you should leave her alone and not mess with me." I pick him up by his hair and I hear him gasping. I turned his head to face me, "Mess with Hanji and you get another beating. Understand?" He nods and I let go. "Go back to what you were doing." I see him run, hunched over and into a different direction.

"Levi..." I turn to see Hanji with her face in horror. Her hands covered her mouth and her eyes were surprised. I let my anger get a hold of me... I never acted like this in front of her. I always acted calm and playing with my anger, but never this.

"Hanji, I-I'm sorry." I went to her and tried to hold her, but she gently pushed me away.

"Levi... how did I never see this... I never expected this from you."

"Listen, I'm sorry. After what he was doing-"

"I could have handled it myself. How am I going to explain his broken nose? Will I keep my job?" Hanji looks down.

"Hanji, please."

"Can I have some time alone? My lab is in 728 in the West wing. Take a walk around, I need to spend my time alone right now."

"Hanji..." She walks to the West wing and I was left alone. Some splats of blood on the white floor... What have I done? Did I deserve it? If only I didn't... no... I can't think that. I shake my head, trying to not regret it. Erwin told me to not regret it, because it will disrupt my future decisions and will allow others to make my own choice. I wish I could take it back, but what would I have done differently? This was truly unexpected... me going to Hanji to surprise her, coming here... punching Henry... everything...
